Devourer Demon Hunter 12.1.5 Guide: Void-Scarred and Annihilator Builds

This Devourer Demon Hunter 12.1.5 guide gives you the short answer first. Play Void-Scarred for raid, Mythic+ and arena, keep Annihilator as the caster fallback for huge pulls and battlegrounds, hit roughly 800 Haste on Void-Scarred and nothing above it, stack Haste freely on Annihilator, spend your first 10 Ascendant Venomstones on a weapon, and stop trusting any talent string you copied in August.

Patch 12.1.5, The Promise of Tomorrow, goes live October 13, 2026 in NA and October 14 in EU. It is a mid-season patch inside Midnight Season 2, so the tier set, the Venomous Abyss and the Mythic+ pool stay put. What changes for you is Collapsing Star, a reshuffled spec tree, a single-boss raid against Kith’ix, the nine-chamber Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, hourly Aqir Invasions and a new upgrade currency. Everything below is written for that patch, using live 12.1 data and the 12.1.5 PTR notes.

What actually changed for Devourer in 12.1.5

Blizzard finally admitted that cancelling Collapsing Star felt like being fined for breathing. The patch notes also try to bribe Void-Scarred into pressing that button again. The full list of WoW 12.1.5 Devourer changes is short and every line matters.

ChangeWhat it means for you
Collapsing Star gains extra range once the cast starts.Targets walking away no longer cancel your biggest button as often.
Collapsing Star no longer locks you out for 5 seconds after a cancel.Juking a stun or a swirl costs you a cast, not a cooldown.
Fury drain is slowed during the cast only for about 1.5 full casts in total.Cast cancelling to stretch Void Metamorphosis is dead, so stop trying.
Soulforged Blades gives Hungering Slash and Voidblade 18% crit chance (was 15%).A small buff to every melee combo.
Voidpurge cuts Void Ray cooldown in Void Metamorphosis by 2.5 seconds (was 2).More Void Rays per window for both trees.
The Hunt and Eradicate move from the final gate to the middle gate. Both trees reach core tools with fewer wasted points, which frees room for the Apex node.
Demonic Intensity now makes Collapsing Star reset The Hunt and adds 30% Hunt damage.Void-Scarred now has a reason to cast Collapsing Star.
Violent Transformation resets Soul Immolation and no longer resets or buffs The Hunt.Entering Void Metamorphosis no longer refreshes The Hunt for you.
Monster Rising gives 10% Intellect outside demon form (was 15%) and 20% Collapsing Star damage (was 15%).Power moves from outside the form into the Collapsing Star button.

Translation for the impatient. Annihilator gets pure quality of life. Void-Scarred gets its rotation rearranged and a mild cut to its out-of-form Intellect. PTR feedback on the Void-Scarred part is mixed, so treat the tree rankings below as launch-week truth and sim again after the first hotfix round.

Hero Talent trees: pick before you read further

Devourer has two Hero Talent trees. Void-Scarred is shared with Havoc and works like Fel-Scarred painted purple. Annihilator is shared with Vengeance and is the caster tree built around Voidfall meteors. You only read your half from here on, so pick now.

Void-Scarred

Void-Scarred upgrades your melee kit inside Void Metamorphosis. Voidblade becomes Pierce the Veil, The Hunt becomes Predator’s Wake, and Hungering Slash becomes Reaper’s Toll. The first cast of each upgraded ability after you transform fires a Voidsurge explosion of Cosmic damage around you. Enduring Torment and Monster Rising buff you outside the form, so the tree wants many short transformations through Soul Glutton instead of one long one. It is the default pick for raid, Mythic+ and arena in 12.1.5.

Annihilator

Annihilator builds stacks of Voidfall from Consume and fully channelled Void Ray. At three stacks your next Reap calls down Void Meteors that deal heavy Cosmic damage and spawn Soul Fragments. Entering Void Metamorphosis grants three stacks and resets Reap. The tree wants long transformations, many Collapsing Star casts and as much Haste as you can find. It stays behind Void-Scarred in raid and most keys, catches up in very large pulls, and is a solid pick for Battleground Blitz and rated battlegrounds.

Talents per tree

There is no single Devourer DH build 12.1.5 players can copy for everything. Each tree gets a raid, a Mythic+ and a PvP version below, plus the swaps that matter.

Many Devourer talents changed position in 12.1.5. Import strings exported on 12.1 can land points in the wrong nodes or fail outright. Build the trees by hand from the node lists below, then export your own strings after the patch goes live.

Void-Scarred talents

This is the core Void-Scarred Devourer 12.1.5 loadout. Every build takes Voidblade, Hungering Slash, The Hunt, Soul Glutton, Devourer’s Bite, Soulshaper, Moment of Craving, Devourer’s Edge and Tempered Soul. The Hunt now sits in the middle gate, so the left capstones cost fewer points than in 12.1.

  • The raid single target build takes Devourer’s Bite, Second Helping, Soulshaper and Moment of Craving so every Reap hits like a truck.
  • The raid single target build skips Eradicate because you are not hitting enough targets to feed it.
  • The raid build takes Pursuit of Angriness over Wave of Debilitation, Set Fire to the Pain over Improved Soul Rending, and Student of Suffering over Flamebound.
  • The raid build should now test the Apex node Midnight, because the moved talents free the points and Collapsing Star finally resets The Hunt.
  • The raid cleave build adds Eradicate, drops Second Helping for a second point in Sweet Suffering, and moves Unrestrained Fury into any class node you like.
  • The Mythic+ build takes Soul Glutton, Eradicate, every capstone on the left side and the full right side down to Eradicate.
  • The Mythic+ build keeps Set Fire to the Pain for the staggered damage that Monster Rising and leech then heal back.
  • The PvP build keeps the melee core and uses the PvP talents Beckon, Glimpse and Armor of Souls, which most top players run.
  • The PvP build swaps Pursuit of Angriness for Wave of Debilitation when you need extra control, and keeps Void Nova and Imprison in the class tree.

Swap rules for Void-Scarred are simple. Fighting one target means taking Second Helping and skipping Eradicate. Fighting two or more targets for most of the fight means taking Eradicate and an extra point in Sweet Suffering. Any Soul Glutton-free Devourer Mythic+ build 12.1.5 players try will feel slow, so dungeons and Delves always mean Soul Glutton. If PTR sims of Midnight come out flat on your character, spend those points on defensives and nobody will notice.

Annihilator talents

The Annihilator Devourer 12.1.5 loadout is the caster build. Every build takes Emptiness on the final choice node for ramping Haste, Tempered Soul over Spontaneous Immolation for the second charge, Impending Apocalypse, Calamitous and the full Apex node Midnight. Devourer’s Bite with a single Voidblade press buffs your Collapsing Star casts without making you a melee.

  • The raid single target build takes Emptiness, Harness the Cosmos over Doomsayer, and Devourer’s Bite timed on your Collapsing Star windows.
  • The raid single target build skips Eradicate unless the fight has adds for most of its duration.
  • The raid build takes State of Matter for a third Shift charge over Path to Oblivion.
  • The raid cleave build adds Eradicate to turn Reap into a cone after every full Void Ray channel.
  • The Mythic+ build keeps Emptiness and Harness the Cosmos, and takes the full right side down to Eradicate.
  • The Mythic+ build swaps Harness the Cosmos for Doomsayer in low keys, Delves, the Labyrinth and Aqir Invasions, where you drop combat constantly.
  • The Mythic+ build can take Phase Shift and Final Hour when the key is hitting you hard enough to matter.
  • The PvP build takes Inevitable End, which makes Collapsing Star uninterruptible and is the only reason Annihilator scares healers.
  • The PvP build adds Beckon and Armor of Souls and leans on Void Nova to stun stacked enemies on battleground objectives.

Swap rules for Annihilator are equally short. Constant combat means Harness the Cosmos. Frequent combat drops mean Doomsayer. Adds for more than a third of the fight mean Eradicate. In 12.1.5 the middle gate also opens melee talents to Annihilator, but they are a sim question, not a default.

Rotation and priority per tree

Both trees share the same skeleton. Outside Void Metamorphosis you spend 100 Fury on Void Ray and gather Soul Fragments. At 50 souls, or 35 with Soul Glutton, you transform. Inside, Fury drains instead of being spent, Consume becomes Devour, Reap becomes Cull, and every 30 souls allows one Collapsing Star. Only 10 souls can lie on the ground, and souls collected past the cap are wasted.

Void-Scarred rotation

Fury caps at 140 for Void-Scarred. The goal is many short transformations, each one burning every Voidsurge and leaving fast. In 12.1.5 entering the form no longer refreshes The Hunt, but Collapsing Star does, so the order inside the form changed.

The single target opener runs like this.

  1. Pre-cast Soul Immolation two seconds before the pull.
  2. Cast Consume twice, then Reap, then Soul Immolation and Reap again.
  3. Build Fury with Consume and Reap until you can cast Void Ray at 100 Fury.
  4. Cast Voidblade, then Vengeful Retreat with Voidstep, then The Hunt right before you transform.
  5. Enter Void Metamorphosis and use your potion and on-use trinket immediately.
  6. Run Pierce the Veil into Reaper’s Toll into Vengeful Retreat, then Predator’s Wake into Reaper’s Toll into Vengeful Retreat, so every Voidsurge fires.
  7. Cast Collapsing Star only after Predator’s Wake is spent, so the reset from Demonic Intensity is not wasted.
  8. Cast Predator’s Wake again after the reset, then Cull and Void Ray.

The single target priority outside the form follows.

The single target priority inside the form follows.

  • Cast Devour when a Soulburst proc is up.
  • Fire each upgraded melee ability once for its Voidsurge, then keep using the combos on cooldown.
  • Cast Void Ray on cooldown because it pauses the Fury drain.
  • Cast Cull with four souls or when it would overcap charges.
  • Cast Collapsing Star after Predator’s Wake has been used, then use the fresh Predator’s Wake.
  • Fill with Devour.

In AoE, Void-Scarred gets in fast through Soul Glutton, smuggles an Eradicate proc and a Hungering Slash charge into the form, and leaves fast. Outside the form, cast Eradicate with 10 souls on the ground or before Moment of Craving expires. Inside, the sequence is Eradicate, Void Ray, Eradicate, a second Void Ray, the full melee chain, and then you stop casting anything that extends the form. Throw Glaive fills dead globals, and Soul Immolation below 20 Fury is the only generator allowed at the end. Never cast Reap in AoE as Void-Scarred, because it starves Eradicate of souls. Rolling Torment rewards you for leaving, since its damage buff lasts 12 seconds after the form drops.

Never clip a Void Ray channel, because a full channel feeds Eradicate, Moment of Craving and the bonus Fury. Never cancel Collapsing Star on purpose, since the slowed drain now runs out after about 1.5 casts. Never sit above 140 Fury. Never enter the form without souls on the ground.

Annihilator rotation

Fury caps at 120 for Annihilator. The goal is one long transformation stretched with Emptiness Haste, four to five Collapsing Star casts per window, and Voidfall meteors falling on every third stack. The 12.1.5 changes make that window more forgiving without changing its order.

The single target opener runs like this.

  1. Pre-cast Soul Immolation two seconds before the pull.
  2. Cast Consume twice, then Reap, then Soul Immolation and Reap again, then Soul Immolation once more.
  3. Cast Consume twice into Reap, then Void Ray at 100 Fury.
  4. Repeat Consume twice into Reap, then Consume twice into Eradicate if you took it, then Void Ray again.
  5. Spend any Voidfall stacks with Reap before you transform, because entry grants three new stacks and overwrites the old ones.
  6. Press Voidblade for Devourer’s Bite, enter Void Metamorphosis, then use your potion and trinket.
  7. Cast Void Ray, then Collapsing Star, then Cull, then keep alternating Collapsing Star and Cull as souls allow.

The single target priority outside the form follows.

The single target priority inside the form follows.

  • Cast Devour when a Soulburst proc is up.
  • Cast Void Ray on cooldown to pause the drain.
  • Cast Collapsing Star every time 30 souls are ready and do not sit above 40.
  • Cast Cull with four souls or three Voidfall stacks.
  • Use Devour as filler and pick up nearby souls to reach one more Collapsing Star before the form ends.

In AoE, Annihilator plays the same way with more souls. Cast Eradicate at three Voidfall stacks or when it will consume 10 souls. Hold one Voidfall before transforming so an Eradicate carries into the form. Fire as many Collapsing Star casts as souls allow, and let the extra range from 12.1.5 save the casts that used to fail when packs moved.

Never clip Void Ray. Never transform with three Voidfall stacks unspent. Never cancel Collapsing Star to stretch the drain, because the new limit punishes it. Never overcap 120 Fury or 40 souls inside the form.

Stat priority per tree

This Devourer stat priority 12.1.5 section is where the trees really split. Intellect beats every secondary, so a big item level jump wins over perfect stats. Diminishing returns start at 1380 rating for Critical Strike and Mastery, 1320 for Haste and 1620 for Versatility.

Void-Scarred stats

OrderStatNote
1IntellectItem level first.
2Haste to about 800 ratingRoughly 17 to 20 percent, the breakpoint for cycling the form.
3Critical StrikeSlightly better in raid, until you own Aqirbane Reliquary and Freightrunner’s Flask.
4MasteryOvertakes Crit once those two crit items are equipped, and leads in Mythic+.
5VersatilityDefensive value only.
6Haste above 800Your worst stat, avoid it on gear.

The 800 Haste breakpoint was built around smuggling The Hunt in 12.1. The 12.1.5 rework moves The Hunt reset onto Collapsing Star, so the exact number may shift. Re-sim the week the patch lands before you reforge your life around it.

Annihilator stats

OrderStatNote
1IntellectItem level first.
2HasteNo cap, it stretches the form through Emptiness.
3MasteryBecomes the top secondary in AoE.
4Critical StrikeGood with Calamitous, but Midnight already forces Collapsing Star crits.
5VersatilityDefensive value only.

Annihilator wants all the Haste it can carry, which makes it the natural home for haste-heavy loot that Void-Scarred has to refuse. In PvP both trees use Mastery, then Versatility, then Haste, then Critical Strike.

Season 2 tier set: Abyssal Doomhound’s Pursuit

The Devourer tier set 12.1.5 is still Abyssal Doomhound’s Pursuit, untouched by the patch. The 2-piece bonus gives Reap a 20% chance, when it harvests four or more souls, to make your next Consume instant and explode as Soulburst for 600% of Spell Power in Cosmic damage. The 4-piece bonus makes Soulburst generate 2 Soul Fragments, grant Moment of Craving, and raises Reap damage by 10%. Soulburst also procs from Cull and Eradicate at the same rate. The August 18 tuning cut the soul generation hard, so the set is now mostly passive outside single target.

How Void-Scarred uses the set

Void-Scarred already loves Reap, so the set slots straight in. In single target you cast Reap or Cull every time four souls are waiting, and you spend each Soulburst on an instant Consume or Devour. That makes the set high value for raid bosses. In AoE you stop casting Reap to feed Eradicate, and the set becomes a passive bonus from Eradicate procs. Grab the four-piece first and treat it as mandatory.

How Annihilator uses the set

Annihilator puts Reap at the centre of its rotation for the set, casting it whenever four souls are up. The extra Reap casts consume Voidfall naturally, so you rarely trigger meteors by hand anymore. The free Moment of Craving from Soulburst upgrades your next Reap or Eradicate to eat up to 10 souls. The set is worth less to Annihilator than to Void-Scarred because its damage sits in Collapsing Star, but the four-piece is still mandatory.

Tokens are Cured, shared with Druids, Monks and Rogues. Only one Slumbering Coil Curio fits in your bags at a time. The Catalyst in Silvermoon now keeps the secondary stats and cantrips of whatever you convert, so the input item matters more than the slot.

  1. Kill Entombed Sentinels every week, because the BiS gloves are the actual token piece, Abyssal Doomhound’s Studded Gauntlets.
  2. Open every Great Vault slot and take a tier piece over almost anything else until you have four.
  3. Catalyst Gaze of the Coiled Watcher from Ula’tek for the helm, Somber Spaulders from Voidscar Arena for the shoulders, War Trial Vestments from Den of Nalorakk for the chest, and Coiled Hex Legguards from The Coiled Altar for the legs.
  4. Spend early Nebulous Voidcores on a tier slot only if the Vault keeps failing you.
  5. Remember that four-piece also unlocks Catalyst Unbound for the rest of the season.

Kith’ix drops no tier tokens. Its leather cantrip legs, Leggings of Palpable Terror, sit in a tier slot and keep their cantrip through the Catalyst, so they can still become a set piece.

BiS gear per tree

Your Devourer BiS gear 12.1.5 list is mostly the 12.1 list, plus one raid boss that Blizzard keeps nerfing on the PTR. Kith’ix loot started at item level 344 on Mythic and the latest PTR build shows 324 at Myth 3/6, upgradable to 334. Its cantrip armor gains 15% damage if you wear a Venomcursed item from Ula’tek.

Void-Scarred runs one on-use trinket for its frequent windows, Freightrunner’s Flask, plus one passive. From Kith’ix, take the Twisted Horror’s Tendril trinket if it sims, since stacking crit suits you, and be careful with the haste-heavy Leggings of Palpable Terror and Band of the Swarmcaller, because they push you past 800 Haste.

If you are behind, use Spellbreaker’s Warglaive with Hunter’s Ritual Stone as an off hand until you kill Mythic Coiled Altar, Mindpiercer’s Sigil from Voidscar Arena as your second trinket, Graft of the Domanaar as the neck, Speakeasy Shroud as the cloak, and Polished Lightwood Channeler from Altar of Fangs in either hand. Heroic Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang still beats almost everything you own.

Annihilator runs two passive trinkets, Wavecaller’s Seastone and Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag, which sim slightly ahead of Freightrunner’s Flask for this tree. Haste is welcome, so the Kith’ix legs and the Mastery and Haste ring Band of the Swarmcaller fit you better than they fit Void-Scarred.

If you are behind, use Spellbreaker’s Warglaive with Hunter’s Ritual Stone, Mindpiercer’s Sigil or Freightrunner’s Flask as a trinket, and any high item level Haste piece over a lower one with perfect secondaries. The same weapons from Altar of Fangs and Temple of Sethraliss cover you in Mythic+.

For both trees, the Great Vault order is tier first, then Ula’tek cantrips, then Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag. Spending Nebulous Voidcores on Ula’tek is a gamble, because the same table holds Font of Venomous Rage, a trinket you will hate. From the week of October 6, Orin Straylight sells one extra Voidcore a week after the quests In the Catalyst’s Shadow and Prismatic Potential. Upgrade crests go into weapons, then trinkets, then helm, chest and legs.

Ascendant Venomstones per tree

Ascendant Venomstones replace Ascendant Voidcores. Orin Straylight offers the quest Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom the week of October 13, finishes his research, and offers Ascending with Venomstones the week of October 20. Stones drop from every Heroic or Mythic Venomous Abyss boss, Mythic+ keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion chests. Ten stones raise one fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth or top quality Tidal crafted weapon, trinket or necklace, up to roughly Myth 8 equivalent. The crest cap lifts the same week, so finish your 6/6 upgrades first or the stones have nothing to land on.

Venomstones cannot drop on launch day. You need the October 13 quest, a week of research, and the October 20 follow-up before the first stone appears, so a key or boss kill in week one of 12.1.5 gives you nothing extra.

Void-Scarred Venomstone order

  1. Spend the first 10 stones on a weapon, because Devourer gains equal damage from main hand and off hand and weapons carry the biggest Intellect budget.
  2. Spend the second 10 on the other weapon for the same reason.
  3. Spend the third 10 on Freightrunner’s Flask, since its crit burst lines up with your frequent transformations.
  4. Spend the fourth 10 on Wavecaller’s Seastone or Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag, depending on whether you raid or push keys.
  5. Leave the neck for last, because necklaces carry no primary stat and the ilvl gain is the smallest.

If your best weapon is already an elevated 344 Mythic drop that the Catalyst refuses, put the first 10 into a fully upgraded Spellbreaker’s Warglaive or the next eligible weapon instead.

Annihilator Venomstone order

  1. Spend the first 10 stones on a weapon, because both hands scale your damage equally and weapons hold the most Intellect.
  2. Spend the second 10 on the other weapon for the same reason.
  3. Spend the third 10 on Wavecaller’s Seastone, your strongest passive Intellect proc.
  4. Spend the fourth 10 on Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag, the second passive trinket in your setup.
  5. Leave the neck for last, because necklaces carry no primary stat and the ilvl gain is the smallest.

If the Catalyst refuses your elevated 344 weapon, start with the next eligible weapon, usually Spellbreaker’s Warglaive.

  • Void-Scarred uses Flask of the Shattered Sun before it owns Freightrunner’s Flask or Aqirbane Reliquary.
  • Annihilator uses Flask of the Blood Knights, because Haste never stops paying for this tree.
  • Annihilator also likes the Haste rune in the Omnium Folio, while Void-Scarred sticks with Rune of Masterful Cunning.
  • Both trees swap one Arcanoweave Lining for Hunter’s Ritual Stone on Spellbreaker’s Warglaive if they are not killing Mythic Coiled Altar.

Macros, addons and the missing WeakAuras

WeakAuras does not exist for retail Midnight. The authors refused to ship it under the new addon restrictions, so the Blizzard Cooldown Manager is your tracker now, ideally with Cooldown Manager Tweaks on top. Deadly Boss Mods or BigWigs remain mandatory, and ElvUI still works if you hate the default bars.

The focus interrupt and focus dispel macros matter in every key, including the Web Weavers affix during Aqir Invasions.

  • Void-Scarred players should put The Hunt, Voidblade and the Voidsurge state on the Cooldown Manager, because Demonic Intensity now resets The Hunt on Collapsing Star.

  • Both trees should track Soulburst and Moment of Craving, since those two procs decide your next Reap.

Where Devourer stands and whether to main it

This is the honest state of the spec for the 12.1.5 player. Ratings come from Season 2 logs, PvP ladders and PTR testing, and they will move with hotfixes.

Void-Scarred rating

ContentRatingWhy
RaidALeads Annihilator in every Venomous Abyss fight and brings burst cleave for free.
Mythic+AFast cycling, strong boss damage, no long ramp in a Season 2 key.
PvPAThe most played Devourer tree in arena and Blitz, with real kill windows.

The risk is the 12.1.5 rework. Testers report the form now asks you to juggle Collapsing Star, Void Ray, The Hunt and Voidblade at once, and some think the tree lost value. If launch sims confirm that, the gap to Annihilator shrinks, but nothing in the notes suggests it flips.

Annihilator rating

ContentRatingWhy
RaidBBehind since the 12.1 Collapsing Star nerfs, though 12.1.5 removes its worst frustrations.
Mythic+BCompetitive only on very large pulls, and boss damage still matters.
PvPBFine in Blitz and rated battlegrounds with Inevitable End, rare in arena.

Annihilator is the tree for players who want to stand at range and cast. The 12.1.5 range extension and the removed lockout on Collapsing Star make it the most improved tree in feel, if not in numbers.

So, is Devourer worth maining? For a Devourer Midnight Season 2 main, yes, if you play Void-Scarred and accept dashing into melee every 30 seconds. The spec sits in the upper half of every content type, the tier set is untouched, and Kith’ix plus the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan hand you fresh Mythic gear without a nine-boss lockout. If you only want to stand still and cast, Annihilator works, but you will carry your group a little less than the Void-Scarred player standing next to you.

Which Hero Talent tree is best for Devourer in 12.1.5?

Void-Scarred is best for raid, Mythic+ and arena, while Annihilator remains a caster alternative for huge pulls and battlegrounds.

How much Haste does Void-Scarred Devourer need?

Aim for about 800 Haste rating, roughly 17 to 20 percent, then put everything else into Critical Strike and Mastery.

Do old 12.1 Devourer talent strings still work?

No, many talents moved in 12.1.5, so rebuild your trees manually and export fresh strings after the patch goes live.

What should I spend my first 10 Ascendant Venomstones on?

Spend them on a fully upgraded weapon, because both hands scale Devourer damage equally and weapons carry the most Intellect.

Does Kith’ix drop Devourer tier set tokens?

No, Kith’ix drops no tokens, but its leather cantrip legs use a tier slot and keep their effect after catalysing.
