Discipline Priest 12.1.5 Guide: Oracle and Voidweaver Builds
Short version for people who stop reading here. In patch 12.1.5 Voidweaver runs raid, Oracle runs Mythic+ and arena, Haste is the first PvE secondary on both trees, and the only Discipline change is that Master the Darkness now lasts 30 seconds instead of a minute, so the Void Shield you were hoarding for the next pack has already expired. Spend your first ten Ascendant Venomstones on Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang, finish the 2-piece before anything else, and accept that pug keys still prefer a Holy Paladin.
This disc priest 12.1.5 breakdown is written for The Promise of Tomorrow, live October 13, 2026, inside Midnight Season 2. Talents, the tier set, the Mythic+ pool and the core loop carry over from 12.1. What changes is the list of places where you can fail: the Kith’ix pull, the Kindo’jan run, the hourly Aqir Invasion and a brand new upgrade sink that eats ten stones at a time.
What 12.1.5 Changes for Discipline
Blizzard touched exactly one Discipline line. Everything else is new content that you will be expected to heal anyway.
| Change | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Master the Darkness duration cut to 30 seconds (was 1 minute) | Stored Void Shield charges rot twice as fast, so spend them before the pull ends |
| The Unbinding of Kith’ix raid | Single boss, Mythic flex 15 to 25 players, Mythic loot at item level 344 |
| Cantrip armor from Kith’ix | Occupies tier slots and goes through the Catalyst with its effect intact |
| Ascendant Venomstones | Ten stones raise a maxed Season 2 weapon, trinket or necklace past its cap |
| One extra Nebulous Voidcore per week | More bonus rolls on Ula’tek for the weapon, neck and Venomcursed helm |
| Crest cap lifted | No excuse left for a 6/6 Hero item sitting at 3/6 |
| Labyrinth of Kindo’jan | Nine-chamber solo mega-dungeon with Valeera Sanguinar and Myth-level rewards |
| Aqir Invasion | Ten-minute public event every hour in Eversong Woods or Zul’Aman |
Hero Talents: Oracle vs Voidweaver
Two trees, two jobs. Pick wrong and you lose roughly the same amount of output a tank loses by standing in fire, only quieter.
Voidweaver turns every Mind Blast into an Entropic Rift. Inside the rift Smite becomes Void Blast with heavily boosted Atonement healing, Voidheart amplifies everything you do, and Collapsing Void detonates when the rift ends. Voidwraith replaces your pet between windows. It is a damage tree that heals as a side effect, and it hates moving.
Oracle is mostly passive. Guiding Light gives Penance a second charge, Twinsight and Prompt Prognosis make every Penance count, Preventive Measures inflates Void Shield, and Piety redistributes overhealing. It is mobile, reactive and forgiving, which is why the disc priest midnight season 2 population in keys and arena is overwhelmingly Oracle.
| Content | Oracle | Voidweaver |
|---|---|---|
| Raid, Venomous Abyss and Kith’ix | Viable backup, better on high-movement pulls | Main pick, strongest AoE and damage |
| Mythic+ Season 2 | Main pick, about 70% of top Disc keys | Alternative for stacked, predictable packs |
| Delves and Labyrinth of Kindo’jan | Safer when you keep dying | Main pick, kills things faster |
| Arena and Solo Shuffle | Main pick, over 90% of top players | Barely exists, PvP-nerfed |
Talent Builds per Hero Tree
The discipline priest talents 12.1.5 builds are the 12.1 builds, because the patch did not touch the trees. The apex Master the Darkness goes to 4 points in every build below: Penance gets a chance to upgrade your next shield into Void Shield, ranks 2 and 3 add shadow damage and Atonement healing, and rank 4 makes Mind Blast guarantee the upgrade and reflects part of the absorb as damage.
Voidweaver Talents
Raid build. Everything here exists to make Mind Blast come back faster and to keep you standing still inside the rift.
- Take Dark Energy over No Escape, Darkening Horizon over Void Empowerment, and Embrace the Shadow over Void Leech.
- Run Evangelism with Archangel instead of Mindbender for the stronger ramp.
- Pair Greater Smite with Divine Procession so spamming Smite keeps Atonement alive.
- Take Ultimate Penitence for burst fights and Power Word: Barrier only when the raid actually stacks.
- Keep Protector of the Frail, Harsh Discipline, Power of the Dark Side and Weal and Woe in every raid setup.
- Play Abyssal Reverie by default and swap it for Shield Discipline the moment your mana bar becomes a hobby.
Mythic+ build. Voidweaver in keys wants pets and executes, because trash dies in seconds and you need throughput that does not wait for a ramp.
- Take Shadowfiend, Mindbender and Voidwraith synergies for constant pet uptime.
- Snipe low-health mobs with Shadow Word: Death to spawn extra Shadowfiends during trash.
- Take Encroaching Shadows with Revel in Darkness so Shadow Word: Pain spreads across the pack.
- Keep Mass Dispel, Improved Purify and Psychic Scream because the dungeon pool punishes groups without them.
- Swap Ultimate Penitence for Power Word: Barrier on dungeons with stacked, scripted AoE.
PvP build. Voidweaver is under 10% of top Discipline players, and Quickened Pulse and Expiation carry PvP-specific nerfs.
- Take Ultimate Radiance, Inner Light and Shadow, and Phase Shift as your PvP talents.
- Keep Weal and Woe and Eternal Barrier, which nearly every rated Disc runs.
- Expect to lose Rift windows to every interrupt and kick in the bracket.
Swaps. Barrier versus Ultimate Penitence per fight, Shield Discipline for mana, and Dark Energy whenever the boss makes you move more than twice a minute.
Oracle Talents
Raid build. Oracle raids by chaining Penance into Power Word: Shield and feeding Void Shield through Preventive Measures.
- Take Guiding Light, Twinsight, Prompt Prognosis, Preventive Measures and Piety, since they are the tree.
- Pick Divine Feathers over Save the Day, which almost never matters.
- Pick Prophet’s Will or Desperate Measures depending on which defensive you trust more.
- Run Weal and Woe so each Penance buffs the shield that follows it.
- Run Evangelism with Archangel, plus Ultimate Penitence or Power Word: Barrier per fight.
- Keep Protector of the Frail for the second Pain Suppression charge.
Mythic+ build. This is the default Disc key setup, and it is built around reactive Penance and instant casts.
- Take Encroaching Shadows so Shadow Word: Pain covers whole packs.
- Take Shadow Mend, which now passively upgrades Flash Heal instead of waiting for a proc.
- Keep Mass Dispel, Improved Purify, Psychic Scream and Power Infusion.
- Keep Protector of the Frail, because a spare Pain Suppression saves more keys than any DPS talent.
PvP build. Oracle is over 90% of top Discipline in Solo Shuffle and 3v3.
- Take Ultimate Radiance, Inner Light and Shadow, and Phase Shift, which nearly every top player runs.
- Swap in Trinity, Dark Archangel or Mindgames only for specific comps.
- Keep Weal and Woe and Eternal Barrier on every rated build.
Swaps. Prophet’s Will versus Desperate Measures for the defensive, Barrier on stacked fights, and Shadow Mend stays in every PvE build.
Rotation and Priority per Hero Tree
Atonement still pays for the first five allies and gets worse after that, so blanketing 20 people is how you go out of mana and still lose the raid.
Voidweaver Rotation
The voidweaver disc priest lives inside Entropic Rift. Mind Blast opens it, Void Blast fills it, and every second you spend walking is a second of healing you did not do.
Raid opener and Evangelism ramp.
- Refresh Shadow Word: Pain on the boss.
- Cast Power Word: Shield on the first target.
- Cast Flash Heal on a second target.
- Cast Evangelism.
- Cast Power Word: Radiance twice.
- Cast Mind Blast to open Entropic Rift.
- Cast Penance.
- Cast Void Shield.
- Spam Void Blast until the rift collapses.
Single target priority.
- Keep Shadow Word: Pain up.
- Cast Mind Blast on cooldown for the rift and the Void Shield.
- Cast Penance on cooldown.
- Cast Void Shield when available.
- Cast Shadow Word: Death on cooldown.
- Cast Void Blast inside the rift and Smite outside it.
AoE adds Power Word: Radiance on damage events, Shadow Word: Pain spread through Encroaching Shadows, and Shadow Word: Death executes for extra pets. Cast Ultimate Penitence inside an active rift, never outside it.
Never clip Penance while holding both Harsh Discipline and Power of the Dark Side. Any other time, cutting Penance early to return to Void Blast is a small gain.
Oracle Rotation
The oracle disc priest plays around two Penance charges and does not care much about standing still. Penance is the engine, Mind Blast is the tier set fuel, and Void Shield is the reward.
Raid opener and Ultimate Penitence ramp.
- Refresh Shadow Word: Pain.
- Cast Power Word: Shield.
- Cast Flash Heal.
- Cast Power Word: Radiance twice.
- Cast Mind Blast.
- Cast Ultimate Penitence and use the flight time to cast an instant shield.
- Cast Penance, then Power Word: Shield, then Penance again.
- Fill with Smite until cooldowns return.
Single target and Mythic+ priority.
- Cast Penance on cooldown and never sit at two charges.
- Cast Void Shield as soon as it appears, since it now expires in 30 seconds.
- Cast Mind Blast on cooldown.
- Cast Power Word: Radiance before pack damage and boss AoE.
- Cast Shadow Word: Death on cooldown.
- Cast Smite as filler and Flash Heal only when a target is about to die.
AoE in keys is one Radiance plus Encroaching Shadows, which covers the whole group. Do not clip Penance channels on Oracle, because full channels are your throughput.
Master the Darkness now lasts 30 seconds. Void Shield charges stored at the end of a pack will not survive the walk to the next one, so dump them on the tank or yourself before they vanish. Atonement past five targets loses efficiency, so a second Radiance on a 5-man is wasted mana.
Stat Priority per Hero Tree
The disc priest stat priority 12.1.5 answer is boring. Item level first, Intellect wins every argument, and secondaries only matter between items of similar level.
Voidweaver Stats
Haste up to about 1800 rating, then Mastery, then Critical Strike, then Versatility. Haste shortens Mind Blast and Penance, which means more rifts.
Oracle Stats
Haste, then Mastery, then Critical Strike, then Versatility, with all of them close. Top Oracle keys sit near 1230 Haste, 790 Mastery and 750 Critical Strike, with almost no Versatility. In PvP the order flips to Mastery and Versatility first, then Haste.
| Stat | 10% penalty | 20% penalty | 30% penalty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haste | 1320 | 1760 | 2200 |
| Mastery and Critical Strike | 1380 | 1840 | 2300 |
| Versatility | 1620 | 2160 | 2700 |
Leech is the only tertiary worth a slightly lower item level, and only in keys.
Cosmic Penitent Tier Set
The disc priest tier set 12.1.5 is unchanged from 12.1, and both hero trees feel naked without the 2-piece.
| Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
| 2-piece | Penance damage and healing increased by 20%, and each Penance cast reduces Mind Blast cooldown by 2 seconds |
| 4-piece | After casting Mind Blast, your next Power Word: Shield or Void Shield absorbs 25% more |
Voidweaver and the Tier Set
Every Penance shortens Mind Blast, and every Mind Blast is a rift. The 2-piece is the single largest gear upgrade Voidweaver gets, and the tree feels weak until it lands. The 4-piece is a solid bonus on the Void Shield that Master the Darkness hands you after each Mind Blast.
Oracle and the Tier Set
Guiding Light means more Penance casts, so Oracle squeezes the 2-piece just as hard through Mind Blast cooldown reduction. The 4-piece stacks with Preventive Measures on Void Shield, which makes it worth more to Oracle than to Voidweaver in Mythic+.
Token Drops and Fastest Route to 4-Piece
Cloth uses Venomwoven tokens from The Venomous Abyss.
| Boss | Slot | Cloth token |
|---|---|---|
| Entombed Sentinels | Hands | Venomwoven Idol |
| The Lost Explorers | Shoulders | Venomwoven Remnant |
| Vashnik the Malignant | Chest | Venomwoven Icon |
| Sszorak | Legs | Venomwoven Relic |
| The Twin Fangs | Head | Venomwoven Effigy |
| Ula’tek | Any slot | Slumbering Coil Curio |
- Kill bosses two through six every week, because they are the token bosses and Ula’tek only hands out a Curio.
- Push Catalyst charges into whatever tier slot the raid refuses to drop.
- Grab the Kith’ix cantrip chest, since it sits in a tier slot and catalyzes without losing its effect.
- Take tier from the Great Vault when the raid row offers it, since one piece usually beats a slightly higher off-piece.
BiS Gear per Hero Tree
Every disc priest bis 12.1.5 list starts with the same weapon and the same Venomous Abyss neck. The trees split on trinkets, rings and the head slot.
Voidweaver BiS (Raid)
| Slot | Item | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Venomkeeper’s Horrific Cowl | Ula’tek |
| Neck | Aqirbane Reliquary | Ula’tek |
| Shoulders | Cosmic Penitent’s Echoing Screams | Tier token, The Lost Explorers |
| Back | Silken Voodoo Drape | The Coiled Altar |
| Chest | Cosmic Penitent’s Eclipsing Robes | Tier token, Vashnik the Malignant |
| Wrist | Martyr’s Bindings | Tailoring |
| Hands | Cosmic Penitent’s Celestial Grips | Tier token, Entombed Sentinels |
| Waist | Martyr’s Waistwrap | Tailoring |
| Legs | Enveloping Legwraps of the Cosmic Penitent | Tier token, Sszorak |
| Feet | Cackling Soultreads | The Coiled Altar |
| Ring | Alluring Bubbleband | Nymrissa Wavecaller world boss |
| Ring | Sickening Signet of Atroxus | Voidscar Arena |
| Trinket | Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel | Nek’zali the Soulcoiler |
| Trinket | Wavecaller’s Seastone | Nymrissa Wavecaller world boss |
| Main Hand | Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang | Ula’tek |
| Off Hand | Vessel of Last Rites | Kings’ Rest |
The Venomcursed cowl beats the tier helm for Voidweaver because Kith’ix cantrip gear deals 15% more damage while you wear a Venomcursed item from Ula’tek.
Oracle BiS (Mythic+)
| Slot | Item | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Cosmic Penitent’s Truesight | Tier token, The Twin Fangs |
| Neck | Aqirbane Reliquary | Ula’tek |
| Shoulders | Cosmic Penitent’s Echoing Screams | Tier token, The Lost Explorers |
| Back | Silken Voodoo Drape | The Coiled Altar |
| Chest | Cosmic Penitent’s Eclipsing Robes | Tier token or Catalyst from Murder Row |
| Wrist | Martyr’s Bindings | Tailoring |
| Hands | Cosmic Penitent’s Celestial Grips | Tier token, spare fifth piece |
| Waist | Martyr’s Waistwrap | Tailoring |
| Legs | Enveloping Legwraps of the Cosmic Penitent | Tier token, Sszorak |
| Feet | Cackling Soultreads | The Coiled Altar |
| Ring | Charged Sandstone Band | Temple of Sethraliss |
| Ring | Sickening Signet of Atroxus | Voidscar Arena |
| Trinket | Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel | Nek’zali the Soulcoiler |
| Trinket | Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag | The Lost Explorers |
| Main Hand | Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang | Ula’tek |
| Off Hand | Aln’hara Lantern or Vessel of Last Rites | Season 2 drop or Kings’ Rest |
12.1.5 Upgrades and Alt BiS
- Sigil of the Impending Eclipse from Kith’ix is a healer Haste trinket that both trees want once Mythic drops it at 344.
- Voidweaver’s Vestments is the Kith’ix cloth chest with a shadow damage cantrip, and it can be catalyzed into tier.
- Band of the Swarmcaller is the Kith’ix ring for anyone still wearing a dungeon ring.
- Lightspire Core from The Blinding Vale is the best key trinket if the raid hates you.
- Preternatural Antivenom from The Twin Fangs is the fallback raid healer trinket.
- Wavecaller’s Seastone works for Oracle too when Gebbo’s Bag refuses to drop.
| Source | What to take from it |
|---|---|
| The Venomous Abyss | Weapon, neck, Venomcursed helm, tier tokens, Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel |
| Season 2 Mythic+ | Vessel of Last Rites, Sickening Signet, Charged Sandstone Band, Lightspire Core |
| Great Vault | Tier or Ula’tek loot first, everything else second |
| Crafted | Martyr’s Bindings and Martyr’s Waistwrap carrying both embellishments |
The Season 2 key pool is Altar of Fangs, Murder Row, Den of Nalorakk, The Blinding Vale, Voidscar Arena, Kings’ Rest, Ruby Life Pools and Temple of Sethraliss.
Ascendant Venomstones per Hero Tree
Ten Ascendant Venomstones raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth or top-quality crafted weapon, trinket or necklace. Blizzard has not published the exact gain, and PTR numbers pointed to maxed Hero items landing in the low 330s.
- Pick up the quest from Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City to unlock the system.
- Unlock the Voidforge and the Ascendant Nilhammer first, or the stones are decoration.
- Farm stones from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion chests.
- Spend them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City.
Voidweaver Venomstone Order
Weapon first. Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang carries more Intellect than any other slot, and Voidweaver converts raw Intellect into rift damage and Atonement better than anything else. Trinket second, Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel, since you will wear it all season. Necklace last, because Aqirbane Reliquary is mostly secondary stats.
Oracle Venomstone Order
Weapon first as well, for the same Intellect reason, and because Oracle has no single trinket that dominates both raid and keys. Second goes to Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel only if it is your permanent trinket, otherwise to the necklace, which you will never replace. Do not upgrade an item that a Mythic Kith’ix drop will replace next week.
Consumables, Enchants, Gems and Embellishments
| Slot or type | Pick |
|---|---|
| Flask | Flask of the Blood Knights |
| Combat potion | Light’s Potential, or Potion of Recklessness for Voidweaver |
| Mana potion | Potion of Devoured Dreams |
| Health potion | Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion |
| Weapon oil | Thalassian Phoenix Oil |
| Augment rune | Void-Touched Augment Rune |
| Rings | Enchant Ring – Silvermoon’s Alacrity |
| Weapon | Enchant Weapon – Berserker’s Rage or Enchant Weapon – Acuity of the Ren’dorei |
| Helm | Enchant Helm – Empowered Hex of Leeching |
| Shoulders | Enchant Shoulders – Silvermoon’s Mending |
| Chest | Enchant Chest – Mark of the Magister |
| Legs | Arcanoweave Spellthread |
| Boots | Enchant Boots – Shaladrassil’s Roots |
| Gems | Indecipherable Eversong Diamond plus Flawless Masterful Peridot |
| Embellishments | Arcanoweave Lining on both crafted pieces |
Differences between trees are food and potion. Voidweaver eats Loa’s Gathering, Feast of Knowledge or Venom-Spiced Cutlets and can swap to Potion of Recklessness for damage. Oracle eats Silvermoon Parade, Harandar Celebration or Royal Roast and stays on Light’s Potential. PvP players stack Mastery and Versatility enchants and run Venomous Aspirant’s Medallion with Venomous Aspirant’s Insignia of Alacrity.
Macros, Addons and WeakAuras
WeakAuras does not support Midnight retail. If your guide still links a WeakAura pack, it was written by a ghost.
#showtooltip Power Word: Shield
/cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][]Power Word: Shield
#showtooltip Penance
/cast [@mouseover,help] Penance
#showtooltip Angelic Feather
/cast [@player] Angelic Feather
/stopspelltarget
- Grid2 gives you raid frames that do not hide Atonement behind three other icons.
- EllesmereUI is the low-effort full UI swap if you refuse to configure anything.
- The built-in Cooldown Manager replaces most of what WeakAuras used to track.
Voidweaver Setup
Track Entropic Rift and Void Blast on the Cooldown Manager, because the whole tree is a timer. A Smite macro with nochanneling is worthless here, since you are supposed to clip Penance for Void Blast.
Oracle Setup
Track Penance charges and the 30-second Void Shield window. The defensive mouseover Penance macro matters more on Oracle, because reactive Penance is the whole point of the tree.
Kith’ix, Kindo’jan and Aqir Invasion as Disc
- Play Voidweaver on Kith’ix and plan ramps on the pull timer, since one boss means every Evangelism is scripted.
- Play Voidweaver in the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, because solo content rewards damage and Atonement heals you through it.
- Bring Angelic Feather to the Aqir Invasion, since ten minutes is not enough time to walk across Eversong Woods.
- Push your Season 2 key past +10, because lower keys do not drop Venomstones at all.
Where Disc Sits in 12.1.5
Rankings below reflect live 12.1 data, which carries into 12.1.5 since the only change is a nerf to stored shields.
| Content | Voidweaver | Oracle |
|---|---|---|
| Raid | A, top two raid healer in organized groups | B, works, loses on AoE |
| Mythic+ | C, niche | C+, the only Disc tree people bring, still bottom of the healer list |
| PvP | D, nerfed and unplayed | A, the default Disc arena tree |
Is the disc priest promise of tomorrow version worth maining? For a guild that plans damage, yes, because nothing ramps into a scripted Kith’ix hit better. For pug Mythic+, no, since Disc cannot dispel poison and pays harder for unplanned damage than anyone else. This discipline priest guide 12.1.5 stops here, and so will your healing if you forget the 30-second timer.
Which hero talent tree should Disc Priest use in 12.1.5?
Voidweaver for raid, Delves and the Labyrinth; Oracle for Mythic+ and arena, where mobility and reactive Penance matter more.
What changed for Discipline Priest in patch 12.1.5?
Only Master the Darkness, whose duration dropped from one minute to 30 seconds. Talents, tier set and rotation carry over.
What is the best stat for Disc Priest in 12.1.5?
Haste on both trees. Voidweaver pushes it toward about 1800 rating, then Mastery, Critical Strike and Versatility follow.
Where should Disc spend the first 10 Ascendant Venomstones?
On the weapon, usually Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang. Then your permanent trinket, and the necklace goes last.
Is Discipline Priest worth playing in 12.1.5?
Yes for organized raiding and arena. For pug Mythic+ it ranks near the bottom, mostly because it cannot dispel poison.
