Durin Genshin Impact Guide 6.6

Durin Genshin Impact Guide 6.6

Durin is a 5-star Pyro Sword character released in version 6.2. He is a Pyro off-field sub-DPS and support who sits in pocket for most of a rotation, leaving behind a dragon that continues attacking enemies whether you want it to or not. He does real damage from off-field: ~25,000–30,000 DPS at zero constellations in a decent team without his signature. That is not nothing. That is actually a lot, considering he is also shredding resistances for the rest of your team while you ignore him completely.

He is one of the most versatile characters currently in the game. The Genshin Impact Durin best team question has no single answer because he works in nearly everything. This is not a compliment paid to mediocrity: he genuinely improves almost any Pyro-adjacent composition. His ceiling in peak premium teams sits around 130,000–145,000 team DPS. Respectable. Not the singular 180k carry fantasy, but the man does not pretend to be.

He is part of the Hexerei faction. Two Hexerei members on the team activate the resonance, which amplifies his passive effects by a significant 75%. You will almost always want this closed. Skipping it is not an error, just a voluntary 75% passive debuff. Your call.

Kit Breakdown

Elemental Skill: Choose Your Stance

The Skill puts Durin into a brief decision state. You then either press Skill again for White Form or press Normal Attack for Dark Form. You must choose. There is no going back until the next Skill cast. The Skill fires one AoE Pyro hit in White Form, three forward hits in Dark Form, and either way hands Durin 33 energy at max talent level. Since the Burst costs 70, you are getting most of your energy needs solved by one button press. Talent this up.

Elemental Burst: Two Dragons, One Button

The Burst behaves entirely according to which stance you entered. Both forms open with three Pyro hits, then summon a dragon that follows the active character and attacks off-field for 20 seconds. The Burst recharges in 18 seconds, so uptime is permanent if you manage rotations. Dragon damage counts as Burst damage. Every second hit applies Pyro status.

White Dragon (Purity): Attacks all nearby enemies once per second. Lower per-hit damage but AoE and more frequent ticks. The support choice. Casts without a pre-selected stance by default.

Dark Dragon (Denial): Attacks a single target every 1.25 seconds. Higher per-hit damage. No team utility. The greedy choice.

Passive A1: RES Shred or Personal Damage Bonus

This is the most important passive. In White Form, triggering Burning, Overload, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize on any enemy: by any team member: reduces that enemy’s resistance to Pyro and the second element involved by 20% for 6 seconds. With Hexerei resonance active, this becomes 35%. Overload gives you both Pyro and Electro shred simultaneously. Efficient.

In Dark Form, Durin himself gains a 40% damage bonus to Vaporize and Melt. With Hexerei resonance, this jumps to 70%. That is a large number. For this to matter, he must personally be closing those reactions, which means you need Hydro or Cryo support keeping status on enemies while he is off-field. Worth it in dedicated comps; irrelevant anywhere else.

Passive A4: ATK Scaling Stacks

After using his Burst, Durin gains 10 stacks. Each time either dragon lands a hit, one stack is consumed to grant a damage bonus scaling with his ATK. The maximum bonus of 75% is reached at 2,500 ATK. You do not need to bleed to hit this cap: 2,200 ATK still gives ~66% of the bonus. Stacks last long enough to cover most of a rotation. The bonus is per-trigger, not per-enemy, so hitting five targets in White Form costs one stack. The math remains reasonable across the board.

This passive is the core reason Durin wants to stack ATK in his Durin best artifacts setup. The relationship between ATK and damage is unusually direct for a Burst-focused character.

Stat Priorities

The priority order is not complicated. ATK, CRIT, Energy Recharge in that rough ranking, with nuance applied by form and team.

StatTargetNotes
ATK2,000–2,500A4 passive caps at 2,500. Getting near it is rewarded.
CRIT Rate60–70%Ascension stat helps. Aim for a healthy 1:2 ratio.
CRIT DMG140–180%Main stat priority on circlet when you’re CRIT Rate-rich.
Energy Recharge120–150%130% is usually enough. Isolated teams may need up to 160%.
Elemental MasteryOptionalRelevant only in Dark Form Vaporize / Melt builds.

The Sands slot usually takes ATK%. The Goblet takes Pyro DMG Bonus: virtually always. A Pyro Goblet beats an ATK Goblet even if the ATK Goblet would push you to the A4 cap, because the Pyro multiplier applies first and compounds. The Circlet follows CRIT balance. ER Sands is an acceptable swap if you are running without enough Pyro particle generation in the team, which happens more often in mono-compositions without Bennett.

Rotation

For White Form: press Burst first if energy is full (it defaults to White Dragon without a pre-selected stance), then use Skill twice, then leave field. Net result: dragon is summoned, two Skill casts recover partial energy for next rotation. For Dark Form: Skill then Normal Attack to enter stance, then Burst, then leave. Simpler, but you cannot shortcut the pre-Burst Skill step. Both rotations occupy roughly 3–4 seconds of your valuable field time before you bench him again. This is acceptable.

Weapons

The Durin signature weapon Athame Artis leads all options by a comfortable 12% in team DPS over the best accessible alternative. For a sub-DPS signature, that gap is notable. Below it, the competition is tight enough that any good 5-star CRIT sword is a reasonable substitute.

WeaponTierWhy
Athame ArtisS (BiS)Signature. CRIT Rate, Burst CRIT DMG bonus, ATK buff for the whole team. No contest.
Freedom-SwornATeam ATK and Normal Attack DMG buffs. Strong in reaction-heavy compositions.
Primordial Jade CutterAHigh CRIT Rate stat stick with ATK passive. Reliable off-banner 5-star pick.
Wolf-FangASkill and Burst DMG bonus. Good fit for how Durin generates damage.
Harbinger of Dawn R5ABest 4-star option if HP stays above 90%. Off-field Durin usually qualifies.
Lion’s RoarBServiceable F2P pick in Pyro-reaction teams. Passive sometimes goes to waste.
Amenoma KageuchiBER help via passive. Fine if your Burst uptime is inconsistent.

Artifacts

There are three meaningful artifact paths for Durin, and which one you pick depends entirely on what your teammates are already wearing.

Path 1: Hexerei: A Day Carved from Rising Winds (Best in most cases)

This is the set designed for him. It scales with ATK and CRIT, improves both his supportive and damage outputs, and benefits from the Hexerei resonance. Run it when nobody else in the team needs it more, or when his personal damage is more important than buffing a hyper-invested main DPS. This is the default answer for the Durin best artifacts question in 6.6.

Path 2: Noblesse Oblige (Best when supporting a high-investment DPS)

The 4-piece grants the team a flat 20% ATK buff on Burst cast. You use this when your main DPS is pulling 75,000+ DPS and a 20% ATK buff amplifies that number more than Durin’s own damage increase would. The math favors this set more as your carry gets constellations and signature weapons. Without those investments, the personal damage set usually wins. Do not wear both Hexerei and Noblesse on the same team: only one character benefits from the buff at a time, so wearing both is wasted opportunity.

Path 3: Emblem of Severed Fate (ER-starved situations)

If you are running Durin in a team with zero Pyro orb generation and Bennett is absent, Emblem helps close the ER gap. The 4-piece converts excess ER into Burst damage. Functional. Not glamorous. Use it when the other two sets create rotation problems you cannot solve through substats alone.

Main Stats

  • Sands: ATK% in most builds. ER if energy is still a problem after substats.
  • Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus. Always. The ATK Goblet is a trap.
  • Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG, whichever your substats are weakest in.

Team Compositions

This is where the conversation around the Durin Genshin Impact team comp gets long, because the answer is “almost anything.” We will spare you the full catalog and focus on what actually matters.

Hexerei Compositions (The Comfortable Choice)

Any team where a second Hexerei member is present to close the resonance. This is Durin’s natural habitat. Varka is the premier DPS in this category and Durin’s best application overall. The team outputs 130,000–145,000 DPS at standard investment. Cheaper variations still clear most of the Spiral Abyss without strain. Venti is a viable Hexerei DPS here as well: lower ceiling, but if you have constellations on him, the gap narrows faster than expected.

Team NameMembersStanceEst. DPS
Hexerei OverburnVarka / Prune / Durin / NicoleWhite~140,000
Mondstadt ClassicVenti / Fischl / Durin / BennettWhite~100,000
Overload (Chevreuse)Varesa / Chevreuse / Durin / IansanWhite~100,000+
Kinich BurningKinich / Emilie / Durin / SucroseWhite~120,000
Arlecchino ChevreuseArlecchino / Chevreuse / Durin / FischlWhite~110,000+
Vaporize DarkHu Tao / Mona / Durin / BennettDark~100,000
Melt (Dark Form)Durin / Citlali / Mona / BennettDark~90,000+
Raiden OverloadRaiden / Nicole / Durin / (flex)White~100,000

Rule of thumb: White Form if your carry deals AoE damage or benefits from RES shred. Dark Form if Durin himself is closing Vaporize or Melt and you want him dealing the most possible damage from pocket. In every other situation, White Form. Every other situation.

What Stance to Choose

The answer to which form is better for Durin is almost always White. White Form benefits the whole team via RES shred, applies status broadly, and delivers meaningful AoE damage passively. Dark Form is a niche tool for specific reaction compositions where Durin is literally closing Vaporize or Melt reactions himself. If your comp does not revolve around that, Dark Form costs you team utility in exchange for personal damage that is nice but not transformative. White Form is the default. Dark Form is the deliberate choice you make when you know exactly why.

Main DPS Durin (C6 Bennett Required)

With C6 Bennett providing Pyro infusion, Durin can sit on-field and use Charged Attacks. This is a real playstyle and produces viable numbers in Overload or Vaporize teams. However, it demands specific conditions, is less stable than off-field play, and the C6 Bennett investment itself is a separate discussion. Treat this as a bonus use case, not a primary build target. Fun? Yes. Recommended as your primary path? No.

Constellations

The Durin constellation guide follows a pattern familiar to anyone who has invested in a versatile support before. C0 is fully functional. C1 and C2 offer meaningful upgrades. C3–C5 are incremental. C6 is dramatic. The recommendation is either stop at C2 or commit to C6. Everything in between is diminishing returns.

ConstellationEffect SummaryValue
C1A4 stack buff now shares to the entire team in White Form, or amplifies Durin’s own damage in Dark Form.High
C2A1 passive in White Form now also adds 50% Pyro DMG bonus and secondary element DMG bonus on top of RES shred. Key constellation.Highest
C3+3 levels to Elemental Burst. Personal damage increase.Moderate
C4+40% Burst DMG passively, slower stack consumption from A4/C1.Moderate
C5+3 levels to Elemental Skill, more energy per cast.Low
C6Burst ignores 30% DEF universally. White Form reduces enemy DEF by 30% additionally. Dark Form ignores another 40% DEF on top. Massive.Transformative

Between C1+Signature and C2+good-5-star, the latter wins if you already have a suitable 5-star sword. C2 applies the team damage amplification that makes Durin meaningfully stronger in practically every lineup. After C2, the next real destination is C6. The path between them is not the place to stop intentionally.

Leveling & Talent Priority

Raise him to level 80 with ascension as a baseline. The gains from 80 to 90 exist and matter, but they are not mandatory if resources are scarce. Do not skip the Hexerei quest at level 70. It unlocks the faction passive. Skipping it is leaving significant free damage and utility on the floor.

Talent Order

  1. Elemental Burst: his primary damage source. Max this first. Target level 10, get to 8 at minimum.
  2. Elemental Skill: energy regeneration scales with talent level. Level 8–9 is optimal to reduce ER requirements on artifacts.
  3. Normal Attack: irrelevant unless running C6 Bennett on-field build. Leave at level 1 otherwise.

Optimal end state is roughly Burst 10 / Skill 8–9 / Normal 1. Adjusting Skill talent directly impacts how much ER you need from gear. The ROI on pushing Skill to level 9 is better than most players realize, because shaving 10% ER off a roll slot frees a substat for CRIT or ATK. Do the math on your specific team.

Which stance should I use for most teams?

White Form. It shreds RES, buffs the whole team, and covers AoE. Default to it unless you are specifically running Vaporize or Melt with Durin closing reactions himself.

Is Durin worth pulling without his signature weapon?

Yes. Harbinger of Dawn R5 or Primordial Jade Cutter gets you 85–90% of his damage ceiling. The signature is an upgrade, not a prerequisite.

Should I stop at C2 or push to C6?

Stop at C2 or go to C6. C3 through C5 are marginal. C2 gives meaningful team damage; C6 is the transformative jump. Nothing in between justifies stopping.

Is Durin better than Furina?

By raw versatility and team count, yes. Furina has one dominant meta team. Durin has several. At C2+ the comparison is not close.

Do I need the Hexerei resonance?

Not mandatory, but skipping it voluntarily reduces his A1 passive effectiveness by 75%. Good teams without it exist. They are the minority.
