Fury Warrior Guide for WoW 12.1.5: Builds, BiS, Rotation
Short version for people who quit reading after the title. Patch 12.1.5, The Promise of Tomorrow, goes live on October 13 and does not touch Fury at all, so the 12.1 kit carries over unchanged. Slayer is the pick for raid single target and most Mythic+ keys, Mountain Thane is the pick for add heavy raid fights and nearly all PvP. Stats run Mastery, then Haste, then Crit and Versatility in raid, with Haste on top in keys. The tier set pays you for Raging Blow and Bloodthirst inside Recklessness, and your first 10 Ascendant Venomstones go into Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury.
This WoW 12.1.5 Fury Warrior guide covers the patch that adds The Unbinding of Kith’ix, the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan and hourly Aqir Invasions, while Midnight Season 2 keeps running with no rating reset. Arms gets the S tier headlines. You get a mid pack spec and the dignity of choosing it anyway.
What 12.1.5 Actually Changes for Fury
Nothing in the class notes. The 12.1.5 tuning passes buffed Protection Execute by 30% and cut Colossus Rage costs, then walked right past Fury. Your talents, tier bonuses and priority are the 12.1 versions. What changes is the content around you and the item level ceiling.
| Feature | What it means for Fury |
|---|---|
| The Unbinding of Kith’ix | A single boss raid fought next to Lady Liadrin, dropping item level 285, 298, 311 and 324 from Raid Finder to Mythic. |
| Corroded Hulk’s Skullcap | The plate cantrip helm from Kith’ix deals shadow damage to nearby enemies, 15% more with Venomcursed gear, and can become tier. |
| Ascendant Venomstones | Ten stones push one fully upgraded weapon, trinket or necklace past its normal cap. |
| Labyrinth of Kindo’jan | Nine chambers of solo misery with Valeera Sanguinar, Mythic tier rewards and the One-Champion Army achievement. |
| Aqir Invasions | Ten minute public events every hour in Eversong Woods or Zul’Aman. |
| Crest cap | The weekly crest cap lifts the week of October 20. |
| Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2 | Reach 3600 rating for The Venomous Contender title and a Timelost Saddle. |
Mythic Kith’ix was nerfed on the PTR from Myth 9/6 down to Myth 3/6, item level 324, upgradable to 334. Blizzard decided one boss should not hand out final boss loot. Fair, and painful.
Hero Talent Trees: Slayer vs Mountain Thane
Two trees, two different jobs. Pick wrong and the meter will explain your mistake in front of everyone.
Slayer
Slayer turns Fury into an Execute and Bladestorm machine. Slayer’s Dominance makes your attacks fire Slayer’s Strike, which stacks Executioner on the target for more Execute damage, crit chance and crit damage. Reap the Storm adds bonus hits off Bloodthirst and Sudden Death, Unrelenting Onslaught shaves Bladestorm cooldown per Executioner stack and applies Overwhelmed, and Unhinged casts Bloodthirst on every other Bladestorm tick.
Slayer Fury Warrior 12.1.5 is built for raid single target and most Mythic+ keys, where 35 of the top 50 Fury key pushers run it. In PvP it is a curiosity that rated players politely ignore.
Mountain Thane
Mountain Thane calls down Lightning Strikes and hands Fury back Thunder Clap and Thunder Blast. Storm Surge raises Thunder Clap damage by 50% and halves its cooldown during Avatar, Capacitance extends Avatar by 2 seconds per Thunder Blast, Crashing Thunder and Ground Current feed the AoE, and Steadfast as the Peaks adds 10% maximum health after Impending Victory.
Mountain Thane Fury Warrior 12.1.5 is built for raid fights with constant adds, dense Mythic+ pulls for players who can handle more buttons, and PvP, where 47 of the top 50 3v3 Fury players and 45 of 50 Solo Shuffle players run it.
| Content | Slayer | Mountain Thane |
|---|---|---|
| Raid single target | Best choice | Falls behind |
| Raid with constant adds | Acceptable | Best choice |
| Mythic+ | Default pick | Higher sustained AoE, harder to play |
| PvP | Rarely seen | Default pick |
Talent Builds Per Tree
The Fury Warrior talents 12.1.5 players need are the 12.1 builds with zero edits. The shared core is Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, Rampage, Recklessness, Avatar, Anger Management, Reckless Abandon, Bloodbath and Crushing Blow, topped by the Apex talent Rampaging Berserker, which cheapens Rampage and buffs damage during Recklessness. Import strings from a current sim, not from a screenshot someone posted in July.
Slayer Raid Build
- Take Bladestorm with Unhinged, because the whole Slayer loop is built around Bladestorm resets from Unrelenting Onslaught.
- Take Carving Blades for single target damage and leave Storm of Blood for fights with a second target.
- Take Hack and Slash, which refunds Raging Blow charges 75% of the time and keeps the 2-piece busy.
- Drop Improved Whirlwind, Meat Cleaver and Rampaging Ruin on pure single target, since they do nothing without extra targets.
- Put Meat Cleaver and Improved Whirlwind back for two target fights such as The Twin Fangs.
Slayer Mythic+ Build
- Take Improved Whirlwind and Meat Cleaver, because Raging Blow and Rampage only cleave with the Whirlwind buff active.
- Take Storm of Blood so Whirlwind spreads Rend across the pack without an extra button.
- Take Rampaging Ruin for big pulls, since it turns Rampage into a frontal cone with uncapped AoE at a single target cost.
- Take Bladestorm with Unhinged and line it up with pulls instead of the boss.
- Take Wrecking Throw with Javelineer for a ranged silence on non player targets.
- Take Piercing Howl for kiting, or Interpose when a teammate needs a 30% damage sponge for 8 seconds.
- Take Enraged Regeneration or Stance Mastery once keys start one shotting you.
Slayer PvP Build
- Run Slaughterhouse, which stacks healing reduction on your target up to 12 times.
- Run Enduring Rage for free Enrage whenever you get crowd controlled.
- Run Disarm into Rogues, Warriors and Hunters.
- Run Death Wish into casters only if you trust your healer, because it raises your damage taken too.
- Keep Storm Bolt, Berserker Stance, Impending Victory and Heroic Leap, which every top Fury player takes.
- Expect Slayer to lose most brackets to Mountain Thane, since only 3 of the top 50 3v3 Fury players run it.
Mountain Thane Raid Build
- Take Avatar with Storm Surge and Capacitance, because Avatar uptime is where this tree lives.
- Take Crashing Thunder and Ground Current for the add waves you picked this tree for.
- Take Improved Whirlwind and Meat Cleaver on any fight with constant adds.
- Take Hack and Slash to keep Raging Blow charges flowing into the 2-piece.
- Take Carving Blades if one add or the boss needs priority damage.
- Switch to Slayer on pure single target bosses instead of forcing this tree into a fight it loses.
Mountain Thane Mythic+ Build
- Take Improved Whirlwind, Meat Cleaver and Storm of Blood, because every pull is a cleave check.
- Take Rampaging Ruin for big pulls, since it turns Rampage into a frontal cone with uncapped AoE.
- Take Storm Surge and Capacitance to chain Avatar windows across consecutive packs.
- Take Wrecking Throw with Javelineer for a ranged silence on non player targets.
- Take Piercing Howl for kiting, or Interpose when a teammate needs a 30% damage sponge for 8 seconds.
- Take Enraged Regeneration, Stance Mastery or Kill or Be Killed for high keys, and note the last one only saves you if something dies within 8 seconds.
Mountain Thane PvP Build
- Run Slaughterhouse, which stacks healing reduction on your target up to 12 times.
- Run Enduring Rage for free Enrage whenever you get crowd controlled.
- Run Disarm into Rogues, Warriors and Hunters.
- Run Death Wish into casters only if you trust your healer, because it raises your damage taken too.
- Keep Storm Bolt, Berserker Stance, Impending Victory and Heroic Leap, which every top Fury player takes.
- Use Impending Victory with Steadfast as the Peaks for an extra 10% maximum health for 5 seconds.
- Remember Piercing Howl only slows by 50% in PvP after the 12.1 nerf.
What to Swap and When
| Situation | Swap |
|---|---|
| Single target raid boss | Drop Improved Whirlwind, Meat Cleaver and Rampaging Ruin, take Carving Blades. |
| Two to five targets | Take Meat Cleaver and Improved Whirlwind, keep Carving Blades. |
| Six or more targets | Add Storm of Blood and Rampaging Ruin. |
| Heavy incoming damage | Take Enraged Regeneration, Stance Mastery or Field Dressing. |
| Group needs mobility | Take Piercing Howl or Interpose. |
| Casters you must stop from range | Take Wrecking Throw with Javelineer. |
Rotation and Priority Per Tree
The Fury Warrior rotation 12.1.5 asks for is the 12.1 loop with no edits. Keep Enrage up, never sit at full Rage, and spend every Recklessness window feeding the tier set. Everything else is button order.
Slayer Rotation
Opener, in order.
- Charge into the boss.
- Cast Bloodthirst.
- Press Recklessness and Avatar together.
- Cast Rampage.
- Cast Bladestorm.
Single target priority, top to bottom.
- Recklessness and Avatar go out whenever they are ready.
- Rampage comes first when you are not Enraged or sit above 100 Rage.
- Bladestorm goes out on cooldown.
- Execute fires at 2 stacks of Sudden Death.
- Rampage is spent next.
- Execute is used whenever it is available.
- Crushing Blow follows.
- Bloodbath follows.
- Raging Blow follows.
- Bloodthirst follows.
- Wrecking Throw fills a free global.
- Whirlwind is the last resort filler.
For AoE, open with Whirlwind so the cleave buff is up, let Storm of Blood spread Rend, save Bladestorm for the pack and keep the Whirlwind buff alive between Rampages. Hold Recklessness and Avatar no more than 10 seconds for a pull, because Anger Management refunds them faster than you think.
- Never sit on 2 Sudden Death stacks, since the third proc is wasted.
- Never let Enrage drop while Rampage is available.
- Never cast Bloodthirst for healing when Raging Blow is the higher priority.
- Never waste Recklessness without three Raging Blows and a few Bloodthirsts inside it.
Slayer changes the core loop by making Bladestorm a rotational cooldown and turning Execute into a proc spender. Unhinged also casts Bloodthirst for free during Bladestorm, which happens to be exactly what the 4-piece wants.
Mountain Thane Rotation
Opener, in order.
- Charge into the boss.
- Cast Whirlwind if there is more than one target.
- Press Recklessness and Avatar together.
- Cast Rampage.
- Cast Thunder Blast.
Single target priority, top to bottom.
- Recklessness and Avatar go out whenever they are ready.
- Rampage comes first when you are not Enraged or sit above 100 Rage.
- Execute fires at 2 stacks of Sudden Death.
- Thunder Blast is used at 2 charges.
- Bloodbath follows.
- Thunder Blast is used during Avatar.
- Execute is used whenever it is available.
- Rampage is spent next.
- Thunder Blast is used outside Avatar.
- Crushing Blow follows.
- Bloodthirst follows.
- Raging Blow follows.
- Thunder Clap fills a free global.
- Wrecking Throw is the last resort filler.
For AoE, Thunder Clap becomes your main button during Avatar thanks to Storm Surge, and every Thunder Blast extends Avatar through Capacitance and calls an extra Lightning Strikes hit. Recklessness and Avatar share one timer, so one macro is safe. Hold them no more than 10 seconds for a pull.
- Never sit on 2 Thunder Blast charges.
- Never let Enrage drop while Rampage is available.
- Never let Thunder Clap spam crowd out Bloodthirst and Raging Blow during Recklessness, because the tier set needs both.
- Never cast Bloodthirst for healing when Raging Blow is the higher priority.
Mountain Thane changes the core loop by putting Avatar at the center and adding two thunder buttons that fight Bloodthirst and Raging Blow for global cooldowns. More buttons, more RNG, more ways to fail.
Stat Priority Per Tree
The Fury Warrior stat priority 12.1.5 players follow is unchanged from 12.1. Item level beats everything, there is no hard cap on any secondary, and diminishing returns punish anyone who stacks one stat blindly. Sim your character, then argue.
Slayer Stats
| Content | Priority |
|---|---|
| Raid | Mastery, then Haste, then Critical Strike and Versatility equally. |
| Mythic+ | Haste, then Mastery, then Critical Strike, then Versatility. |
| PvP | Versatility, then Haste, then Mastery, then Critical Strike. |
Slayer squeezes a bit more out of Critical Strike than the list suggests, because Executioner stacks add crit chance and crit damage to Execute. Top Fury key players sit around 28% Haste, 43% Mastery and 25% Crit. Avoidance from the helm enchant and Leech are worth having in keys.
Mountain Thane Stats
| Content | Priority |
|---|---|
| Raid | Mastery, then Haste, then Critical Strike and Versatility equally. |
| Mythic+ | Haste, then Mastery, then Critical Strike, then Versatility. |
| PvP | Versatility, then Haste, then Mastery, then Critical Strike. |
Mountain Thane leans harder on Haste, because more global cooldowns mean more Thunder Clap casts inside each Avatar. In PvP, aim for roughly 25% Haste to keep Rage and Slaughterhouse stacks flowing, then dump the rest into Versatility. Avoidance and Leech matter in keys here too.
Tier Set: Jade Warlord’s Dominion
The Fury Warrior tier set 12.1.5 players chase is still the Season 2 Jade Warlord’s Dominion, and both bonuses live inside Recklessness. Miss the window and the set does almost nothing.
| Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
| 2-piece bonus | Raging Blow damage increased by 15%, and during Recklessness each Raging Blow extends it by 2 seconds, up to 6 seconds. |
| 4-piece bonus | Bloodthirst damage increased by 10%, and during Recklessness each Bloodthirst raises its crit bonus by 5%, up to 10%. |
Slayer and the Tier Set
Slayer is the natural fit. Hack and Slash keeps Raging Blow charges coming for the 2-piece, and Unhinged casts Bloodthirst for free during Bladestorm, stacking the 4-piece without costing a global. The full 4-piece is a core part of Slayer damage, so playing without it is a choice to lose.
Mountain Thane and the Tier Set
Mountain Thane gets the same bonuses and less comfort. Thunder Clap and Thunder Blast compete with Bloodthirst and Raging Blow for globals, so you have to weave three Raging Blows and several Bloodthirsts into Recklessness by hand. The 4-piece is still mandatory, it is simply worth a bit less here and costs more attention.
Tier Token Drops in The Venomous Abyss
| Boss | Slot | Warrior token |
|---|---|---|
| Entombed Sentinels | Hands | Venomforged Idol |
| The Lost Explorers | Shoulders | Venomforged Remnant |
| Vashnik the Malignant | Chest | Venomforged Icon |
| Sszorak | Legs | Venomforged Relic |
| The Twin Fangs | Head | Venomforged Effigy |
| Ula’tek | Any slot | Slumbering Coil Curio |
Fastest route to 4-piece, in order.
- Kill Nek’zali the Soulcoiler, then clear both wings, Entombed Sentinels into Vashnik the Malignant and The Lost Explorers into Sszorak, for four tier slots before The Twin Fangs.
- Run the Catalyst on any slot the raid refuses you, and feed it pieces with good secondaries, since catalyzed tier keeps the stats of the source item.
- Farm Corroded Hulk’s Skullcap from Kith’ix, a plate helm that can be converted into the tier head.
- Take the Great Vault tier slot whenever it shows up, and spend the Slumbering Coil Curio on your weakest missing slot.
BiS Gear Per Tree
The Fury Warrior BiS 12.1.5 list is the 12.1 list, because Kith’ix loot was nerfed to Myth 3/6 and the Venomous Abyss end bosses still own the best weapon and trinkets. The 4-piece goes on head, shoulders, chest and hands.
Slayer BiS
Alternatives if you are behind as Slayer. Malignant Toothed Edge from Vashnik the Malignant covers the off hand, Apex Brute’s Claw Ring from Sszorak replaces a ring, and Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag from The Lost Explorers is the third best trinket. From Mythic+, Seed of the Devouring Wild and Idol of the War Loa hold a trinket slot, and Spellbreaker’s March is a crafted boot option. Target Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury and Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique in the Great Vault first.
Mountain Thane BiS
| Slot | Item | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Tempered Horns of the Jade Warlord | The Twin Fangs or Catalyst on Greathelm of Temptation from Murder Row |
| Neck | Aqirbane Reliquary | Ula’tek in The Venomous Abyss |
| Shoulders | Raging Pauldrons of the Jade Warlord | The Lost Explorers or Catalyst on Cinderfury Shoulderguards |
| Back | Bloodthorn Burnous | The Blinding Vale, Mythic+ |
| Chest | Cuirass of the Jade Warlord | Vashnik the Malignant or Catalyst on Reckless Spirit Breastplate from The Coiled Altar |
| Wrist | Spellbreaker’s Bracers | Crafted with Arcanoweave Lining |
| Hands | Jeweled Gauntlets of the Jade Warlord | Entombed Sentinels or Catalyst on Bonds of the Hash’ura from Den of Nalorakk |
| Waist | Girdle of Pestilent Purification | Kings’ Rest, Mythic+ |
| Legs | Chausses of Unbound Rancor | Ula’tek in The Venomous Abyss |
| Feet | Scaled Fiend’s Warboots | Vashnik the Malignant |
| Ring | Vile Alchemist’s Band | Vashnik the Malignant |
| Ring | Apex Brute’s Claw Ring | Sszorak |
| Trinket | Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique | The Coiled Altar |
| Trinket | Voracious Heart of Ula’tek | Ula’tek in The Venomous Abyss |
| Main hand | Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury | The Coiled Altar |
| Off hand | Blood Knight’s Warblade | Crafted with Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt |
Alternatives if you are behind as Mountain Thane. Malignant Toothed Edge from Vashnik the Malignant covers the off hand, Sickening Signet of Atroxus from Voidscar Arena replaces a ring, and Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag from The Lost Explorers is the third best trinket. Vile Vial of Volatile Venom and Keeper’s Seething Core are solid fillers, and Idol of the Howling Nexus from Sszorak adds Avoidance for keys. Target Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury and Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique in the Great Vault first.
Ascendant Venomstones Per Tree
Unlock them by talking to Orin Straylight near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City and finishing the quest Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom. Ten Ascendant Venomstones upgrade one fully upgraded Season 2 weapon, trinket or necklace, meaning 6/6 Hero, Myth or max quality crafted. Dual wielding means two weapons, and each costs its own 10 stones. Blizzard has not locked the final item level yet, PTR testing puts it in the low to mid 330s.
Venomstones drop only from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion chests. The Labyrinth of Kindo’jan and Aqir Invasions give you exactly zero. Never spend 10 stones on an item you expect to replace next lockout.
Slayer Venomstone Order
- Spend the first 10 on Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury, because weapon damage scales Execute, Bladestorm and Rampage at once.
- Spend the next 10 on Blood Knight’s Warblade, since max quality crafted weapons qualify and the off hand hits in every Bladestorm tick too.
- Spend the third batch on Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique, but only if you plan to keep it all season.
- Spend the last batch on Aqirbane Reliquary, since a necklace gains only stats and moves damage the least.
Mountain Thane Venomstone Order
- Spend the first 10 on Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury, because weapon damage scales Thunder Blast, Rampage and every Lightning Strikes trigger.
- Spend the next 10 on Blood Knight’s Warblade, since max quality crafted weapons qualify and both hands swing through every Avatar window.
- Spend the third batch on Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique, but only if you plan to keep it all season.
- Spend the last batch on Aqirbane Reliquary, since a necklace gains only stats and moves damage the least.
The Fury Warrior Mythic+ 12.1.5 grind is the most repeatable stone source, because every key at +10 or higher can drop them while raid bosses are capped by weekly lockouts. Push keys, then spend.
Consumables, Enchants, Gems and Embellishments
Both trees use the same consumables and enchants. The only real split is content, not hero tree.
| Type | Pick |
|---|---|
| Flask | Flask of the Blood Knights |
| Damage potion | Light’s Potential |
| Healing potion | Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion |
| Weapon oil | Thalassian Phoenix Oil on both weapons |
| Food | Quel’dorei Medley or Silvermoon Parade |
| Gems | Indecipherable Eversong Diamond plus Flawless Masterful Peridot for raid, Flawless Quick Amethyst for keys |
| Head | Empowered Rune of Avoidance |
| Shoulders | Nature’s Grace |
| Chest | Mark of the Worldsoul |
| Legs | Blood Knight’s Armor Kit |
| Feet | Lynx’s Dexterity |
| Rings | Eyes of the Eagle |
| Main hand | Arcane Mastery |
| Off hand | Berserker’s Rage |
| Embellishments | Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt on the crafted weapon and Arcanoweave Lining on the bracers, Adorned Fang as backup |
PvP swaps the trinkets for Venomous Gladiator’s Medallion and Venomous Gladiator’s Insignia of Alacrity, and the tier bonuses only work at 50% there. Plan accordingly.
Macros, Addons and WeakAuras
WeakAuras ended support in Midnight because of the new addon restrictions. Stop searching for the Fury pack and learn to read the default UI like it is 2006.
Macros for Both Trees
#showtooltip
/cast Recklessness
/cast Avatar
/use 13
/use 14
This offensive macro fires your cooldowns and on use trinkets together. On Mountain Thane it is pure upside since Recklessness and Avatar share one timer. On Slayer it is still fine, just check that Avatar is talented.
#showtooltip Pummel
/cast [@focus,harm,exists][@target] Pummel
#showtooltip Heroic Leap
/cast [@cursor] Heroic Leap
Macro for Mountain Thane Only
#showtooltip
/cast [known:Thunder Clap] Thunder Clap; Whirlwind
This one swaps between Thunder Clap and Whirlwind depending on your talents, so Slayer has no use for it.
Addons That Matter
- BigWigs or Deadly Boss Mods handles raid timers, and LittleWigs covers dungeons.
- Plater or Platynator shows the Executioner and Overwhelmed debuffs on nameplates for Slayer.
- Details shows you exactly how far behind the Arms player you are.
- Raidbots is a website rather than an addon, and its sims overrule every opinion in this guide, including ours.
Where Fury Sits in 12.1.5
Fury ranks 19th among DPS specs in Season 2 Mythic+ by score, with Arms sitting first. Raid tier lists place it between A and B, valued as a stable spec when target counts change mid fight. Nothing in 12.1.5 moves either number.
| Tree | Raid | Mythic+ | PvP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slayer | B+ | B | C |
| Mountain Thane | B | B minus | B+ |
Slayer earns its raid grade through steady single target and smooth tier usage. Its Mythic+ grade reflects good packs held back by a weak spec baseline, and its PvP grade reflects that almost nobody at rating plays it.
Mountain Thane earns its raid grade only on add fights, loses a little in keys to RNG and global pressure, and wins the PvP column because the whole ladder already chose it.
Worth maining? A Promise of Tomorrow Fury Warrior is worth it if you enjoy the playstyle and accept being benched for an Arms player on hard progression. If you want the meta, reroll Arms. If you want to suffer with style, you are already in the right place.
Did patch 12.1.5 change Fury Warrior?
No. Patch 12.1.5 tuned only Protection Warrior, so every Fury talent, tier bonus and rotation from 12.1 carries over unchanged.
Which hero tree should Fury play in 12.1.5?
Slayer for raid single target and most Mythic+ keys, Mountain Thane for add heavy raid fights and almost all PvP.
What should Fury spend Ascendant Venomstones on first?
Spend the first ten on Maze-roa, Warlord’s Fury, then the off hand, then your best trinket, and the necklace last.
Is the Kith’ix plate helm worth farming for Fury?
Yes. Corroded Hulk’s Skullcap adds a shadow damage cantrip and can be turned into a tier helm at the Catalyst.
Is Fury Warrior worth maining in 12.1.5?
Only if you enjoy it. Fury sits mid pack in Mythic+, solid in raid, while Arms outperforms it nearly everywhere.
