Genshin Impact 6.6 Luna VII
Genshin Impact 6.6, officially titled Luna VII: The Vijnana of Void and Ash, launched May 20, 2026 across PC, mobile, and console: right on HoYoverse’s reliable six-week schedule. Punctuality is apparently the one promise they keep. The patch closes out the Nod-Krai arc, drags you back to Sumeru for yet another crisis involving the Irminsul, and drops three new characters into your roster and your wallet simultaneously.
This is the penultimate update before the game moves toward Snezhnaya. If you were hoping to rest between regions, that was never an option.
Maintenance ran May 19 for ~5 hours. You received 300 Primogems as compensation. Spend them wisely. You will not.
New Playable Characters
Three characters join in 6.6. Two matter for meta. One is 4-star support filler dressed up as a personality. You know the formula.
| Name | Rarity | Element | Weapon | Role | Phase |
| Nicole Reeyn | 5-Star | Pyro | Catalyst | Universal ATK Support | PHASE 1 |
| Prune | 4-Star | Anemo | Catalyst | Off-field / Hexerei buff | PHASE 1 |
| Lohen | 5-Star | Cryo | Polearm | Stance DPS | PHASE 2 |
Nicole Reeyn
The Nicole Reeyn hype is not unearned: she is the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel, the secretive Fontaine scholar society that has been lurking in the story since 4.0. Codenamed “N.” Her Elemental Skill drops a persistent Pyro field granting party-wide ATK bonuses and a shield. Her Burst enters Silent Contemplation, summoning Arcane Projections that mirror the active character’s element: scaling off their ATK. As a bonus, her Charged Attack doubles as a Treasure Compass once you’ve unlocked the region’s. HoYoverse hid a quality-of-life feature inside a combat kit because subtlety is dead.
Lohen
Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Ranged Company. Described in-game as stronger than Varka. His kit is a Cryo DPS stance-switcher: Elemental Skill triggers Masterstroke state, converting all attacks to Cryo that cannot be overridden by other infusions. He consumes Joy and Will to Win: two resources that fuel his Skill damage and Burst enhancement. Lore-wise he’s associated with the Hexenzirkel too, which makes the faction suddenly worth caring about.
Before you’ll dive deeper… you may also interested in these:
Prune
Self-described “Witch Hunter” from Mondstadt. 4-star Anemo Catalyst. Off-field damage, Hexerei faction buffs. She exists. If you pull the Phase 1 banner enough times, you will have six of her.
Banner Schedule
| Phase | Dates | 5-Stars | 4-Stars (New) |
| PHASE 1 | May 22 – Jun 9 | Nicole Reeyn + Durin (rerun) | Prune |
| PHASE 2 | Jun 9 – Jul 1 | Lohen + Mavuika (rerun) | — |
Weapon banners: Nicole’s signature catalyst in Phase 1. Lohen’s polearm, Frostedge Nocturne, in Phase 2 alongside Mavuika’s weapon rerun. Budget accordingly. Or don’t. Same outcome.
Archon Quest & Story
The Genshin Impact 6.6 Archon Quest pulls you back to Sumeru to deal with Dottore’s siege on the Irminsul. The tree of knowledge is under attack again, because apparently that is Sumeru’s permanent condition. Allies from across Teyvat are summoned. The plot resolves lingering threads from both Nod-Krai and the earlier Sumeru arc. A new weekly boss enters the rotation following story completion.
A story recap feature has also been added for players who forgot what happened in previous quests. HoYoverse finally acknowledged that their own narrative is too long to remember. Respect.
Snezhnaya release date content remains a tease for now: 6.6 plants the seeds for Version 7.0 with environmental hints and dialogue, including references to Stellar Reactions, a new combat mechanic expected to debut with the next nation. Version 6.7 is confirmed to feature Sandrone as a playable character, with Superconduct synergy with Eula.
Hexerei System: Wave 2
The Hexerei mechanic explained: characters within the Hexenzirkel faction gain the Hexerei tag after completing associated quests. Hexerei characters’ Arcane Projections deal bonus DMG equal to 300% of Nicole’s ATK. It is a faction-gating system with strong incentives to collect the whole set.
Wave 2 of Hexerei Arts buffs the following Mondstadt characters, most of whom have been benched since 2020:
- Amber
- Kaeya
- Lisa
- Jean
- Noelle
- Mika
- Eula: the headliner, positioned for a Superconduct meta with Sandrone in 6.7
Two new artifact sets debut alongside the system: one tuned for Hexenzirkel supports (Nicole’s best-in-slot), one for Superconduct DPS (Eula’s best-in-slot, and eventually Sandrone’s). The best artifacts for Nicole are available from the new domain immediately on patch day.
Version 6.6 Events
| Event | Notable Reward |
| Phantasmal Pals | New sword (free); Klee, Qiqi, Prune, Yaoyao, Sayu featured |
| Trials of the Brave Warrior | Primogems, enhancement materials |
| Kaleidoscopic Color Chase | Primogems, limited event resources |
| Miliastra Wonderland (updated) | Modified endgame loop; new stages |
The Genshin 6.6 events guide is straightforward: log in daily, complete the event quests, claim the sword from Phantasmal Pals before the patch ends. Missing a free weapon because you forgot to log in is a personal failure no tier list can fix.
Story Quests & World Quests
- Lohen’s Story Quest: Lepus Miles Chapter: Act I: A Knight’s Legacy. Available permanently after June 9, 2026. Quick Start available for AR28+ players.
- Nicole’s World Quest: Beyond Silver and Fine Gold. Explore the Witch’s Lodge inside Meeting Point: The Witch’s Garden. Unlocks after completing Witch’s Lodge quest.
Both quests expand the Hexenzirkel lore Genshin that has been building since Fontaine. If you care about why these characters exist, read them. If you skip all dialogue, that is a valid choice with no mechanical penalty.
System Changes & QoL
- Story Recap Feature: summary of previous Archon Quest chapters. Useful. Should have existed four years ago.
- Starchaser Revamp: progression system rework. Details in patch notes.
- New Artifact Domain: contains both 6.6 artifact sets. Farmable day one.
- New Weekly Boss: unlocked after Archon Quest completion. Required for Lohen and potentially Nicole’s ascension materials.
- Treasure Compass functionality built into Nicole’s kit. Redundant if you already have the compass. Useful if you don’t. Irrelevant if you don’t explore.
Livestream codes from the May 8 Special Program granted up to 300 free Primogems plus additional items. They expire. They always expire before someone finds out they existed.
Pull Priority
Nicole is a universal ATK support with exploration utility built into her kit. She synergizes with every damage dealer and introduces the Hexenzirkel faction to the playable roster. Should you pull Nicole Genshin: yes, unless you have no Primogems, in which case you already know the answer.
Lohen is a strong Cryo DPS for players who want an alternative to Ayaka or Ganyu. His Masterstroke state offers a cleaner rotation than most Cryo carries. He pairs well with Eula post-buff and will form a Superconduct core with Sandrone in 6.7. Pull if you want a Cryo main DPS or are pre-building for 6.7.
Prune is a 4-star. You will have her at C6 regardless of your intentions.
Saving for 7.0 Snezhnaya characters is technically the rational choice. You will not do this.
When does Genshin Impact 6.6 release?
May 20, 2026. It is already out. You are late.
Who are the new characters in version 6.6?
Nicole Reeyn (5-star Pyro support), Lohen (5-star Cryo DPS), and Prune (4-star Anemo support).
What is the Hexerei mechanic and how does it work?
A faction system. Complete quests, gain the Hexerei tag, boost Nicole’s Arcane Projection DMG by 300% of her ATK.
Is Nicole Reeyn worth pulling in Genshin Impact 6.6?
She buffs every team universally and replaces the Treasure Compass. Yes. Pull her.
What comes after 6.6: is Snezhnaya next?
Version 6.7 features Sandrone. Snezhnaya arrives in 7.0. Start hoarding Primogems now. You won’t.
