Holy Priest 12.1.5 Guide: Oracle vs Archon, Builds and BiS
Short version for people who quit after one paragraph. In this WoW 12.1.5 Holy Priest guide, Oracle is the answer for raid, Mythic+ and PvP, and Archon is a raid toy for people who enjoy running dry on mana on purpose. Stack Critical Strike in raid, Haste and Crit in keys, finish the 4-piece Renew bonus before chasing item level, then feed the first 10 Ascendant Venomstones into Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel as Oracle or into your main hand as Archon.
Holy Priest The Promise of Tomorrow barely touches the spec. Patch 12.1.5 lands October 13 in NA and October 14 in Europe, inside Midnight Season 2, and the only Holy line in the notes swaps Holy Celerity and Ultimate Serenity so the second one costs fewer points. Talents, tier set, the dungeon pool and the rotation carry over from 12.1. What changes is the content you get to fail at: The Unbinding of Kith’ix, the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, Aqir Invasions in Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman, and Venomstones replacing Ascendant Voidcores.
Oracle vs Archon: Pick Your Poison
Holy gets two Hero Talent trees. One is played by every top Holy Priest on the ladder. The other one exists.
Oracle
Oracle is the passive tree built around Prayer of Mending and Renew. Guiding Light adds a Prayer of Mending charge, Prompt Prognosis boosts Prayer of Mending on injured targets by 30 percent, Piety softens the cost of overhealing, and Twinsight adds even more Prayer of Mending. The result is steady output, low overheal and mana that actually lasts the fight.
Oracle is for raid, Mythic+ and PvP. In tracked data, 50 of the top 50 Mythic+ Holy Priests run it, and so do 50 of 50 in both 3v3 and 2v2. The ladder has voted.
Archon
Archon Holy Priest Midnight play is burst on a timer. Halo becomes a one minute cooldown, Power Surge and Divine Halo add extra rings, and every Halo hands out 4 Surge of Light procs. Healing piles into Halo and Apotheosis windows, and so do mana costs and overheal.
Archon is for raid fights with predictable damage spikes. In Mythic+ it is a curiosity played by about a dozen tracked characters. In PvP it does not show up at all.
| Tree | Raid | Mythic+ | PvP | Plays like |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oracle | Main pick | Main pick | Only pick | Steady Prayer of Mending and Renew pressure |
| Archon | Viable on burst fights | Niche | Not played | Halo plus Apotheosis spikes |
Talents: Raid, Mythic+ and PvP Builds
The 12.1.5 Holy Priest talents below are 12.1 import strings. Patch 12.1.5 swaps Holy Celerity and Ultimate Serenity, so if the import screams at you, re-pick those two nodes by hand instead of blaming the website.
Every build takes at least 3 points in Benediction, the apex node. Holy Word: Serenity then upgrades your next Flash Heal, the buff stacks to 2, and the upgraded cast costs 30 percent less mana, heals 15 percent more and triggers Cosmic Ripple. Guardian Spirit, Voice of Harmony, Miracle Worker and Apotheosis are taken everywhere.
Oracle Talents
Raid build. The Holy Priest Oracle build 12.1.5 takes Divine Feathers over Save The Day, and Prophet’s Will or Desperate Measures by taste. Epiphany lets Holy Words reset Prayer of Mending, Eternal Sanctity stretches Apotheosis, and Restitution brings you back after Spirit of Redemption, which matters on progression because you will die.
CEQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADAAAAAAYBmZWGzMmZMMDzsMzYGAAAAzYWmBzMzwMMDgZqBwMLYIMmlBYMwiZmZBQzYMGDzMAzMzAD
Mythic+ build. Ultimate Serenity merges Holy Word: Sanctify into Serenity, and after the 12.1.5 swap it sits cheaper in the tree, which is the whole point of the patch note. Burning Vehemence and Empyreal Blaze turn Holy Fire into AoE, and Lightburst makes Holy Nova worth pressing.
CEQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADAAAAAAgZmZmlxMjZGDzALzMzMAAAAGzsMzYmZmhhZGAzUAMzCGCjZbAGDsYMDANjZGjBzAMzMDMA
PvP build. Keep Guardian Spirit, Cosmic Ripple, Voice of Harmony, Miracle Worker and Apotheosis. Nearly every top player runs Spirit of the Redeemer and Phase Shift, then Sanctified Ground in 3v3 or Psychic Shroud in 2v2.
Oracle swaps, by situation:
- Seraphic Crescendo and Gales of Song trade places per fight, since both only tune Divine Hymn.
- Dispersing Light comes out for Divine Image or Say Your Prayers when the fight rewards it.
- Improved Purify, Dispel Magic or Mental Agility get dropped when the fight has nothing to dispel.
- Restitution goes in for progression and comes out on farm.
- Dominate Mind goes in for the Labyrinth and other Delve content, because a borrowed mob is free damage.
Archon Talents
Raid build. Take Ultimate Serenity with Spiritwell, which lets Surge of Light work on Prayer of Healing. Word of Supremacy beats Heightened Alteration every time, and Energy Compression beats Sustained Potency unless you want a longer Apotheosis. Benediction gets 3 points, as always.
CEQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwYAAAAAAAgZmlxMjZmZYmZYZGmBAAAwMmlZwMzMMDzAYmaAgZWMTmFDAMGsZmZWA0MGjxwMz2yAMDMA
Mythic+ build. Swap Spiritwell for Realized Potential and take Lightweaver so Flash Heal buffs your next Prayer of Healing. Shock Pulse or Incessant Screams is a minor utility pick, and Lasting Words is the alternative capstone if you prefer it.
CEQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwYAAAAAAgZzwYWGwMzMjZmZsMzMzAAAAYYWmhZmZGmxMD2wMFAYmNzkZzAAjBbGjFANjZGjBzstMADYA
PvP build. Archon has no ladder presence. If you insist, keep Guardian Spirit, Cosmic Ripple, Voice of Harmony, Miracle Worker and Apotheosis, run Spirit of the Redeemer and Phase Shift, add Sanctified Ground in 3v3 or Psychic Shroud in 2v2, and accept the consequences.
Archon swaps, by situation:
- Seraphic Crescendo and Gales of Song trade places per fight, since both only tune Divine Hymn.
- Sustained Potency replaces Energy Compression when the fight wants one long Apotheosis instead of more Halo value.
- Improved Purify, Dispel Magic or Mental Agility get dropped when the fight has nothing to dispel.
- Restitution goes in for progression and comes out on farm.
- Dominate Mind goes in for the Labyrinth and other Delve content.
Rotation and Priority
Holy runs on Holy Word cooldown reduction. Every filler shortens a Holy Word, and Apotheosis triples that reduction and cuts Holy Word mana cost by 70 percent.
| Cast | Holy Word it shortens | Reduction |
|---|---|---|
| Flash Heal | Holy Word: Serenity | 6 seconds |
| Prayer of Healing | Holy Word: Sanctify | 6 seconds |
| Smite or Holy Nova | Holy Word: Chastise | 4 seconds |
Divine Hymn now also grants Guardian Spirit while channeled and raises healing taken by 20 percent. Guardian Spirit itself gives 60 percent extra healing taken and cheats death.
Oracle Rotation
Opener. Spend Prayer of Mending charges before the pull so they are already bouncing when the first hit lands, then press Holy Fire and Chastise while nobody needs you.
Single target and raid priority:
- Cast Prayer of Mending if it sits at 2 charges.
- Cast a Holy Word if it sits at 2 charges.
- Cast Benediction.
- Cast Prayer of Mending.
- Cast Holy Nova with Lightburst talented.
- Cast Holy Words.
- Spend Surge of Light on Prayer of Healing or Flash Heal.
AoE. Sanctify, or Serenity with Ultimate Serenity, then Prayer of Healing with Surge of Light or Lightweaver, then Holy Nova while moving. In keys the order tightens to Prayer of Mending, Serenity, Benediction, Holy Nova, then Flash Heal.
Cooldowns. Divine Hymn for heavy group damage, Apotheosis when Holy Words are at 0 or 1 charges, Guardian Spirit on the tank about to die, and Power Infusion on a DPS or on yourself if nobody deserves it.
Never clip Holy Word charges, Prayer of Mending charges or Surge of Light. Oracle changes the loop by making Prayer of Mending your main heal: cast it on full groups, put it on injured targets for Prompt Prognosis, and never delay it waiting for someone to get hurt.
Archon Rotation
Opener. Spend Prayer of Mending charges before the pull, then Holy Fire and Chastise. Hold Halo for the first real damage event, not for the pull timer.
Single target and raid priority:
- Cast a Holy Word if it sits at 2 charges.
- Cast Prayer of Mending.
- Cast Benediction.
- Cast Holy Words.
- Cast Holy Nova with Lightburst talented.
- Cast Prayer of Healing, preferably with a Surge of Light proc through Spiritwell.
AoE. Halo when most of the group is hurt, then Sanctify, then Prayer of Healing with the four Surge of Light procs Halo hands you.
Cooldown window, in order:
- Spend Sanctify, Serenity, Chastise and Prayer of Mending before the window.
- Cast Halo.
- Cast Apotheosis.
- Use Power Infusion on yourself if nobody else needs it.
- Return to the normal priority and pair the next Halo with Divine Hymn.
Never clip Holy Word charges, Prayer of Mending charges or Surge of Light, and never hold Halo longer than 30 seconds. Archon changes the loop by moving your throughput into Halo windows, so filler Flash Heals between them are a waste of mana you will want later.
Damage in keys, for both trees: Halo, Holy Fire, Chastise, Holy Nova on 4 or more targets, Smite on fewer.
Defensives, for both trees. Desperate Prayer is your panic button, Fade with Translucent Image turns a threat drop into 10 percent damage reduction, and Protective Light rewards you for healing yourself. Twins of the Sun Priestess copies Power Infusion onto you, so nobody has to pick between your DPS and your mana.
Stat Priority
Holy Priest stat priority 12.1.5 has no hard caps, only diminishing returns. Mastery: Echo of Light amplifies Renew, Haste shortens the Prayer of Mending cooldown and adds Renew ticks, and Crit doubles up with the 2-piece.
Oracle Stats
- Raid runs Critical Strike, then Mastery, then Versatility, then Haste.
- Mythic+ runs Haste and Critical Strike roughly equal, then Mastery, then Versatility, which matches what the top 50 actually wear.
- PvP runs Versatility, then Mastery, then Haste, with Critical Strike last.
Archon Stats
- Raid runs Critical Strike, then Mastery, then Versatility, then Haste.
- Mythic+ runs Critical Strike, then Mastery, then Haste, then Versatility, because the burst windows reward big crits over faster casts.
- PvP runs Versatility, then Mastery, then Haste, with Critical Strike last.
| Stat | 10% DR at | 20% DR at | 30% DR at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Critical Strike | 1380 | 1840 | 2300 |
| Mastery | 1380 | 1840 | 2300 |
| Haste | 1320 | 1760 | 2200 |
| Versatility | 1620 | 2160 | 2700 |
Tier 36: Cosmic Penitent’s Raiment
The Priest set is Cosmic Penitent’s Raiment. The 2-piece reads: each target affected by your Renew increases the critical strike chance of your spells and abilities by 2 percent, up to 6 percent. The 4-piece raises Renew healing by 10 percent and makes Light’s Resurgence leave a Renew on the first target Prayer of Mending heals, every time.
| Slot | Boss | Token |
|---|---|---|
| Hands | Entombed Sentinels | Venomwoven Idol |
| Shoulders | The Lost Explorers | Venomwoven Remnant |
| Chest | Vashnik the Malignant | Venomwoven Icon |
| Legs | Sszorak | Venomwoven Relic |
| Head | The Twin Fangs | Venomwoven Effigy |
| Any slot | Ula’tek | Slumbering Coil Curio |
The pieces are Cosmic Penitent’s Truesight, Cosmic Penitent’s Echoing Screams, Cosmic Penitent’s Eclipsing Robes, Cosmic Penitent’s Celestial Grips and Enveloping Legwraps of the Cosmic Penitent. Fastest route to 4-piece:
- Clear The Venomous Abyss through Sszorak every week, because four of the five tokens drop from bosses two to five.
- Kill Ula’tek whenever you can, since the Slumbering Coil Curio is traded to Kirana for any set slot.
- Fill the raid row of the Great Vault with 2, 4 and 6 bosses so tokens can show up there too.
- Push leftover Mythic+ and Labyrinth pieces through the Catalyst, which keeps their secondary stats.
Oracle and the set. Prayer of Mending bounces constantly and Light’s Resurgence now drops a Renew on its first target every time, so Oracle keeps several Renews alive and sits near the full 6 percent Crit from the 2-piece. The 4-piece buffs the healing Oracle already does. For Oracle this is the most valuable upgrade in the game, worth more than any single item level jump.
Archon and the set. Archon casts Prayer of Mending less often and pours its effort into Halo, which spreads no Renews, so the 2-piece usually hovers between 2 and 4 percent. The 4-piece still pays because Prayer of Mending stays on cooldown. Archon should still get 4-piece first, since nothing else competes, but it gains noticeably less than Oracle.
Best in Slot Gear
The Holy Priest BiS 12.1.5 list pulls from The Venomous Abyss, the Season 2 Mythic+ pool, the Great Vault and crafting. Tier slots below are Catalyst or token pieces.

| Weapon | Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang, Ula’tek, with Frostscale’s Mystic Frond, Nymrissa Wavecaller | Chillworn’s Infusion Staff, Ruby Life Pools |
Oracle top players in keys still wear Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel on 47 of 50 characters and Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag on 26, so raid trinkets beat the dungeon ones the moment you have them.
Archon BiS

| Weapon | Jan’thrazet, the Soul Fang, Ula’tek, with Frostscale’s Mystic Frond, Nymrissa Wavecaller | Crafted Aln’hara Cane, or Chillworn’s Infusion Staff, Ruby Life Pools |
Archon players tracked in keys lean on the crafted Aln’hara Cane as their weapon, which also makes it a legal Venomstone target once it is max quality.
Great Vault, Crafting and Catch-up
The Great Vault is where Myth track comes from. A +10 key pays 318 in the vault, raid slots open at 2, 4 and 6 bosses, dungeon slots at 1, 4 and 8 runs, and once all three rows are filled you can take a Nebulous Voidcore instead of an item. Crafting costs Spark of Tides, one per week and two per item, so spend them on Martyr’s Bindings and Martyr’s Waistwrap with Arcanoweave Lining.
Alt BiS if you are behind:
- Trinkets like Hex Lord’s Dooming Idol, Lightspire Core, Freightrunner’s Flask and Mycolic Medicine hold the line until Soulcoiler drops.
- Backup trinkets Drum of Renewed Bonds, Effigy of Ula’tek’s Faithful and Glorious Crusader’s Keepsake are better than an empty slot and not much else.
- Tier 8 and higher Labyrinth runs hand out Myth track gear without needing a group.
- Crafted bracers and belt cover two slots that raid loot rarely fixes in time.
- Any off-piece in a tier slot goes into the Catalyst before it goes into the vendor.
Ascendant Venomstones
Venomstones replace Voidcores in 12.1.5. You spend 10 of them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City to push a weapon, trinket or necklace past its track cap. They drop from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion chests. Unlock starts with Orin Straylight on October 13, and the spending quest opens the week of October 20, together with the crest cap removal.
Venomstones only work on a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero or Myth item, or a max quality Tidal Crafted one, and only on weapons, trinkets and necklaces. Upgrade the item to its last rank first. Spending stones on a neck before your trinket and weapon is allowed, which is exactly why so many people do it.
Oracle: First 10 Stones
- Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel comes first, because every list ranks it at the top and Oracle never takes it off.
- Your main hand comes second, because weapons carry the biggest Intellect budget in the set.
- The necklace comes last, because necks carry no Intellect and only add secondary stats.
Archon: First 10 Stones
- Your main hand comes first, because raw Intellect inflates every Halo and Apotheosis window and weapons carry the most of it.
- Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel comes second, since it is still the best trinket available to the spec.
- The necklace comes last, because necks carry no Intellect and only add secondary stats.
Consumables, Enchants, Gems and Embellishments
| Slot | Pick | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Flask | Flask of the Shattered Sun | Flask of the Magisters or Flask of Thalassian Resistance |
| Combat potion | Light’s Potential | Potion of Recklessness |
| Mana potion | Lightfused Mana Potion | Potion of Devoured Dreams |
| Health potion | Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion | Silvermoon Health Potion |
| Food | Harandar Celebration or Royal Roast | Silvermoon Parade |
| Weapon oil and rune | Thalassian Phoenix Oil | Void-Touched Augment Rune |
| Weapon enchant | Acuity of the Ren’dorei | Jan’alai’s Precision |
| Head | Hex of Leeching | Rune of Avoidance |
| Shoulders | Silvermoon’s Mending | Amirdrassil’s Grace |
| Chest | Mark of the Worldsoul | Mark of the Magister |
| Legs | Arcanoweave Spellthread | Sunfire Silk Spellthread |
| Boots | Shaladrassil’s Roots | Lynx’s Dexterity |
| Rings | Nature’s Fury | Eyes of the Eagle |
| Unique gem | Indecipherable Eversong Diamond | Telluric Eversong Diamond |
| Raid gems | Flawless Masterful Garnet | Flawless Deadly Amethyst |
| Mythic+ gems | Flawless Deadly Peridot | Flawless Versatile Peridot |
Embellishments are Aln’hara Lantern with Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt, plus Arcanoweave Lining on crafted bracers and belt.
Oracle differences. Oracle rarely starves, so the combat potion slot goes to Light’s Potential and the mana potion only comes out on long progression pulls. Haste leaning Mythic+ gear wants Peridot gems.
Archon differences. Archon burns mana in every Halo window, so Lightfused Mana Potion or Potion of Devoured Dreams replaces the combat potion on long fights. Crit leaning gear wants Garnet or Amethyst in both raid and keys.
Macros, Addons and WeakAuras
Mouseover healing macro, with Alt for self cast:
#showtooltip
/cast [mod:alt,@player] [@mouseover,help,nodead] [help] [@targettarget,help,nodead] [] Flash Heal
Power Infusion on focus, with self as fallback:
#showtooltip
/cast [@focus,exists,help,nodead][@mouseover,help,nodead][] Power Infusion
Leap of Faith on mouseover:
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead] [] Leap of Faith
Sanctify at cursor, for builds without Ultimate Serenity:
#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] Holy Word: Sanctify
/stopspelltarget
Angelic Feather on yourself, or at cursor with Alt:
#showtooltip Angelic Feather
/cast [@player, nomod] Angelic Feather; [@cursor, mod:alt] Angelic Feather
Addons that matter:
- Grid2, VuhDo or Cell replace the raid frames if the default ones annoy you, though they are usable in 12.1.
- Clique or Clicked turn frames into click casting, which is how healers keep their wrists alive.
- BigWigs or DBM tell you when to press Divine Hymn before the raid finds out the hard way.
- Twintop’s Resource Bar tracks mana and procs on the screen center.
- OmniCD tracks party cooldowns in keys.
WeakAuras lost its combat features in Midnight because the API hides combat values. Use the Blizzard Cooldown Manager in Edit Mode instead. Oracle needs Prayer of Mending charges and Surge of Light tracked there. Archon needs Halo, Apotheosis and Surge of Light procs, because missing a Halo window is the whole tree failing. The 12.1.5 raid frames also show dispellable debuffs with animated borders, so Mass Dispel targets are easier to spot.
Healing the 12.1.5 Content
The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a one boss raid under The Venomous Abyss on the Coiled Isle. Kith’ix is a C’Thraxxi general, Lady Liadrin fights on your side, and Mythic scales from 15 to 25 players. Oracle is the default there. Archon is the pick only if your raid lead can name the damage spikes in advance.
The Labyrinth of Kindo’jan has nine chambers plus a final boss, runs from Tier 1 to Tier 11, saves progress between sessions and gives you Valeera as a companion. Oracle handles it better because steady healing beats burst when you are the only healer and the only target. Kill Kindo’jan solo on Tier 11 during Season 2 for Let Me Solo Him: Kindo’jan and the Loa-Blessed Wayfarer mount.
Aqir Invasions run 10 minutes every hour in Eversong Woods or Zul’Aman and end in a boss fight. As a Midnight Season 2 Holy Priest, you spend them spamming Holy Nova and Halo for damage, since nobody in an open world zerg needs healing until they do.
For the Holy Priest Mythic+ 12.1.5 key, the pool is Altar of Fangs, Den of Nalorakk, Murder Row, The Blinding Vale, Voidscar Arena, King’s Rest, Temple of Sethraliss and Ruby Life Pools. Hitting 3600 rating in 12.1.5 earns the Venomous Contender title and the Timelost Saddle.
Where Holy Priest Sits Right Now
| Tree | Raid | Mythic+ | PvP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oracle | A | B | B |
| Archon | B | C | D |
Oracle. Raid A, because every major guide makes it the default and the tier set was built for it. Mythic+ B, since Holy ranks third of seven healers on one meta tracker but sits at C tier on another, with the highest average healing and almost the lowest damage. PvP B, because it is the only tree anyone plays and it holds the ladder without being feared.
Archon. Raid B, competitive on burst fights and worse everywhere else. Mythic+ C, because a dozen tracked players do not make a meta. PvP D, because nobody on the top 50 runs it.
Is Holy Priest 12.1.5 worth maining? For raid, yes, as Oracle. For keys, yes, if you can live with low damage and want the strongest raw healing in the pool. For PvP, only as Oracle and only if you enjoy being the first target. Blizzard did not touch the spec in this patch, so whatever you think of it now is what you get until Season 3.
Should I play Oracle or Archon as Holy Priest in 12.1.5?
Oracle for raid, Mythic+ and PvP. Archon only makes sense on raid fights with heavy, predictable damage spikes.
What changed for Holy Priest in patch 12.1.5?
Only one thing. Holy Celerity and Ultimate Serenity swapped places, so Ultimate Serenity now costs fewer talent points.
What should I spend my first Ascendant Venomstones on?
Oracle upgrades Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel first, Archon upgrades the main hand weapon first, and both leave the necklace last.
Which bosses drop the Holy Priest tier tokens?
Entombed Sentinels hands, Lost Explorers shoulders, Vashnik chest, Sszorak legs, Twin Fangs head, Ula’tek any slot curio.
What is the Holy Priest stat priority in 12.1.5?
Raid wants Critical Strike, then Mastery. Oracle keys want Haste and Crit, and PvP stacks Versatility first.
