Penetrating Shot Rogue Endgame Build Guide

Penetrating Shot is a Core Marksman skill that fires a single piercing arrow through everything in a straight line. Simple enough that even you can use it. The real transformation comes from Eaglehorn: the Unique Bow that makes every 4th cast bounce off walls for 120–150% bonus damage, turning a linear skill into a blender. Combined with Cold Imbuement and Shadow Clone, you will freeze entire screens and duplicate yourself like a budget necromancer who ran out of corpses.

The build offers three Diablo 4 Season 13 endgame variants: Speedfarm, Poison Push, and Shades: each optimizing for a different failure mode. The Speedfarm variant is for efficient T12 farming when you no longer fear death and respect your own time even less. Poison Push replaces Cold with Poison Imbuement for sustained single-target damage, which is a nice way of saying “bosses stop dying instantly.” Shades leans into Shadow Clone and is the most satisfying to play, because watching two of you suffer is better than one.

Strengths

  • Extremely satisfying arrow crack sound
  • Long range: enemies can’t look you in the eye
  • Solid AoE once Eaglehorn bounces start
  • Strong mobility via Dash and Shadow Step
  • Hits ~T125 without exploits

Weaknesses

  • Low single-target DPS: bosses laugh at you
  • Wall bounces go wherever they want
  • Energy runs dry faster than your patience
  • Positioning is mandatory, not optional

Build Variants

Speedfarm

T12 farming. Heartseeker pulls packs, Cold Imbuement freezes them, you spam arrows. No thought required. That’s the point.

Poison Push

Ballista Penetrating Shot with Poison Imbuement for damage-over-time. Shadow Clone keeps Vulnerable up. Better for Tower and harder content.

Shades

The endgame proper. Smoke Grenade into Stealth, Concealment buffs, Clone resets via Preparation. Highest ceiling. Most buttons to press.

Not level 70 yet? This guide is not for you. Go find a leveling build and come back when you’ve earned it. The Combo Points specialization is preferred in endgame due to its damage and Lucky Hit bonuses: the Nilfur’s Narrow Eye Charm Set fires three automatic Heartseeker casts per Penetrating Shot, which means you don’t have to manually generate Combo Points at all. No Nilfur’s set yet? Use Inner Sight as your Diablo 4 Rogue specialization until you do.

Core Skills

These are the skills keeping this Rogue functional rather than decorative. The full skill tree is 69 points invested: verify your exact allocation against a dedicated build calculator before you commit.

SkillRoleNotes
Penetrating ShotPrimary damageMax rank. Everything else serves this. Use the Ballista upgrade for the Poison variant.
Cold ImbuementFreeze, Barrier, damage ampWeakens and freezes targets. Provides Barrier in Speedfarm. Swap for Poison in Poison Push variant.
Shadow CloneUltimate: damage multiplierMimics your actions for 15 seconds at 40% damage. Applies Vulnerable in Shades variant. Use Preparation to reset it frequently.
Dark ShroudDefense, Dodge, Crit ChanceAutomatically gained via the Cir+Mot runeword combination. Provides defensive buffs, Dodge Chance, and Critical Hit Chance passively.
DashGap closer, Stealth trigger, FerocityOpening move into every pack. Gains Stealth and activates Ferocity buffs. Use Artifice Shadow Step to skip walls.
Smoke GrenadeStealth access, Crit ChanceShades variant only. Restores Stealth mid-fight and grants Critical Hit Chance bonus on breaking it.

Concealment note: You do not cast Concealment manually. All Concealment upgrades are automatically applied when you enter Stealth, thanks to the Shrouded Gift unique pants and Berú of the Sightless rune. If you’re pressing it yourself, something has gone wrong.

Rotation

Speedfarm (the one where you stop thinking)

  1. Dash into the pack. Triggers Stealth and Ferocity. You’re now dangerous and technically invisible.
  2. Artifice Shadow Step to skip walls. Walls are for people who don’t have infinite mobility.
  3. Shoot Confluence Heartseeker once to activate Berú of the Narrow Eye and pull enemies together. The Nilfur’s Narrow Eye charm set handles the rest automatically.
  4. Cold Imbuement: freeze everything, get your Barrier. Enemies don’t hit back while frozen. Cherish this.
  5. Shadow Clone for extra damage output.
  6. Spam Penetrating Shot until nothing moves. Confluence Heartseeker auto-fires to keep pulling stragglers. Inner Sight refills your Energy.

Endgame / Shades (the one where you read the skill tooltips)

  1. Dash in for Stealth and Ferocity.
  2. Artifice Shadow Step to reposition or skip geometry.
  3. Berú of the Sightless activates on breaking Stealth: Dark Shroud shadows are already stacked.
  4. Cold Imbuement to freeze, weaken, and gain Barrier.
  5. Shadow Clone: deploy it, let it work.
  6. Smoke Grenade on targets for Stealth re-entry and Critical Hit Chance bonus.
  7. Spam Penetrating Shot. Preparation resets Shadow Clone cooldown after each energy-spend threshold. Keep spamming.

Wall bounce tip: Position enemies against flat walls for maximum Eaglehorn value. Curved geometry and open arenas waste your biggest damage source. Open areas are for builds that don’t need physics.

Best-in-Slot Gear

The gear list below covers the Speedfarm variant. Other variants swap specific slots: verify against M1PY’s current build page for Poison Push and Shades specifics. All items listed are confirmed to exist in the current patch (3.0.2).

SlotItemWhy
HelmHeir of PerditionMythic Unique. Grants Mother’s Favor: +60% damage dealt. Universal for all classes, still essential here.
ChestAspect of Glynn’s AnvilProvides core offensive amplification for the Penetrating Shot endgame build loop.
GlovesAspect of True SightOffensive aspect supporting critical damage output for Marksman skills.
PantsShrouded GiftUnique pants. Automatically grants Concealment and its upgrades on every Stealth entry. You stop pressing buttons you don’t need to press.
BootsAspect of Biting ColdCold Imbuement synergy. Reinforces the freeze-and-shatter damage loop.
AmuletFerocious AspectAttack Speed and Damage amplification on Stealth breaks: which you trigger on every Dash.
Ring 1Ring of Starless SkiesMythic Unique. Each resource spend reduces next Skill cost and deals +10% damage, stacking to +50%. Penetrating Shot spams this into maximum stacks within seconds.
Ring 2High Velocity AspectAttack speed and projectile velocity improvements for Penetrating Shot output.
Dual Wield 1Aspect of Imitated ImbuementShadow Clone inherits your active Imbuement. Effectively doubles the elemental damage application. Can substitute with Azurewrath if needed.
Dual Wield 2El’druin, Sword of JusticeSecondary weapon slot contribution to the offensive loop. Confirmed Season 13 usage.
Ranged WeaponEaglehornUnique Bow. Every 4th Penetrating Shot bounces off walls for 120–150% bonus damage and applies Vulnerable for 3 seconds. Non-negotiable. Target farm from The Beast in the Ice or Echo of Varshan.

Priority for your Amulet slot: Kullean Transfiguration with Aspect of Mending Obscurity. If you don’t know what that means, you probably don’t have it. Get Charms with +Ranks to Marksman Skills and Resistances. The Nilfur’s Narrow Eye Charm Set (5 pieces) is what enables the Combo Points specialization to function without manual Heartseeker casts: prioritize it.

Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil, High Velocity Aspect, Ferocious Aspect, and Aspect of True Sight do not have dedicated Wowhead item pages that could be individually verified at time of writing. They are sourced directly from the M1PY guide and confirmed in-game. Do not panic. Imprint them from the Codex of Power.

Mercenaries

Your mercenaries are Raheir as your hired companion and Varyana as your reinforcement. Raheir provides utility and survivability. Varyana’s Opportunity skill activates on reinforcement: it deals additional damage to enemies already taking punishment, which is a polite way of describing what happens to frozen mobs with an active Shadow Clone in play.

Paragon & Stats

350 Paragon points spent. Target stat distribution: Dexterity takes priority at 614: it directly feeds Rogue damage and defenses. Intelligence follows at 465 for skill cooldown and resource reduction. Strength sits at 312. Willpower at 152: it’s there. It doesn’t want to be, but it’s there.

On gear, stack Energy Generation to sustain Penetrating Shot spam. Energy Generation is the most important affix to acquire on gear before anything else: without it, you fire three arrows and stand there watching your Energy bar judge you. Critical Strike Chance and Damage follow once your resource loop is stable.

Ceiling & Known Exploits

Without bugs: the ceiling for this build sits around T125. Boss damage is the primary bottleneck: Penetrating Shot is a line skill, and most bosses have exactly one hitbox in exactly one place. A dedicated bossing variant is currently in development.

T150 in 30 seconds is a bug. It has been reported to Blizzard. This guide does not document or promote it. If you’re running T150 in 30 seconds, enjoy it until Patch 3.0.3 arrives and removes your personality.

Do I need Eaglehorn to make this build work?

Yes. Without it, Penetrating Shot is just a very loud Forceful Arrow. Target farm The Beast in the Ice.

Which variant should I start with after hitting level 70?

Speedfarm. Learn the rotation, get gear, then graduate to Shades once your brain adapts.

Can I use Poison Imbuement in the Speedfarm variant?

You can. You will clear slower and wonder why. Poison Push is a separate variant for a reason.

Why does Shadow Clone not inherit my Imbuement sometimes?

You need Aspect of Imitated Imbuement equipped. Without it, the Clone is just a shadow cosplaying as a Rogue.

Ring of Starless Skies seems hard to get. Is it mandatory?

It is a Mythic Unique. Farm Belial for the highest drop rate. It is worth the suffering, unlike most things in life.
