WoW 12.1.5 Blacksmithing Guide: Specs, Knowledge and Gold
Short version for people who quit after one paragraph: patch 12.1.5 adds no Blacksmithing recipes and changes no profession mechanics. It changes demand. From October 20, ten Ascendant Venomstones push a fully upgraded, maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapon past its normal cap, and armor is not on the list. Put your Knowledge into Weaponsmithing, craft at max quality with Spark of Tides, and let the plate armor crowd undercut each other into the floor.
This WoW 12.1.5 Blacksmithing guide is written for The Promise of Tomorrow, live October 13, 2026, inside Midnight Season 2. The Knowledge trees, the Moxie and the one-time reset all arrived in 12.1 and carry over untouched. Two readers get separate instructions: the fresh crafter with zero Knowledge, and the Season 1 veteran who only wants to know what to do differently.
What 12.1.5 Actually Does to Blacksmithing
The official 12.1.5 notes contain no profession section at all. Everything below moves your sales anyway.
- The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a single-boss raid, so one loot table has to feed every weapon slot and most raiders will still hold a crafted weapon for weeks.
- Venomstones unlock on October 20 and accept only fully upgraded Hero or Myth pieces or maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapons, trinkets and necklaces, so a crafted weapon below max quality just lost its resale value.
- The crest cap lifts the week of October 20, which means customers suddenly own enough crests to order a weapon recraft at the top of the track.
- The Labyrinth of Kindo’jan hands solo players Mythic gear across nine chambers, which fills the armor slots that used to be crafting order income.
- Aqir Invasions take over Eversong Woods or Zul’Aman for ten minutes every hour, so ore nodes there come with a free swarm and a crowd of competitors.
- Orin Straylight hands out one extra Nebulous Voidcore bonus roll per week from October 6, which slightly raises the odds of a raid drop replacing your weapon.
- Over 200 legacy decor recipes had their reagent costs cut, including the Blackrock Weapon Rack and the Frostwall Forge, so old-world decor finally costs less than a mortgage.
In other words, Midnight Blacksmithing 12.1.5 is the same profession with a different customer list. Weapons gain buyers, armor loses them, and nothing in your spellbook changes.
Trainers and the Silvermoon Hub

| Chrysalius | Trainer for the stranded | Voidstorm |
| Eriden | Blacksmithing Supplies, Luminant Flux, Moxie plans | Silvermoon City Bazaar |

Skill 1 to 100, Per Reader
The cheapest Blacksmithing leveling 1-100 path assumes you own Mining or a friend who does. Without one, every ore on the list below comes out of your wallet.
Fresh Crafter
- Skill 1 to 15 means smelting 25 Refulgent Copper Ingot from 125 Refulgent Copper Ore and stopping there.
- Skill 15 to 50 means filtering the profession window by First Craft Bonus and crafting every trainer recipe exactly once, which lands you near 47 to 50 and pays 1 Knowledge per new recipe.
- That bracket also needs a handful of Umbral Tin Ore and one Dusk-Shrouded Stone, so buy them before you hit the wall.
- Skill 50 to 70 means about 50 Sterling Alloy, budgeting roughly 300 Brilliant Silver Ore, 200 Luminant Flux and 150 Refulgent Copper Ingot.
- Skill 70 to 100 means picking one finisher from the table below and accepting that the cheap one is slow and the fast one is gated.
| Finisher | Skill per craft | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Rare gear and tools | 1 | Yellow at 90, green at 95, slow but ungated |
| Epic plans for 150 Moxie | 3 | Each craft eats 20 Fused Vitality, which is time-gated |
| Epic crafting orders | 3 | About 10 orders finishes it, if your realm posts any |
- Spending Concentration on alloys while leveling is a waste, because a skill-up does not care about quality.
- Vendoring Moxie is a mistake you only make once, because the Renown book and every epic plan cost it.
- Repeating a green recipe while a first craft still sits unclicked is how people end up at skill 60 with no ore left.
Season 1 Veteran
You are already at 100 or a few points short. The skill bar is finished; what remains is item skill and order volume.
- A smith stalled below 100 should finish on epic weapon orders at 3 skill each, since customers now bring their own Sparks.
- Your tool should be the Sunforged Blacksmith’s Hammer and your accessory an epic Sun-Blessed Blacksmith’s Toolbox, which adds skill above 100 plus Resourcefulness.
- Dark Iron Dwarf and Lightforged Draenei smiths get +5 skill for free, and everyone else gets to be jealous.
- Alts starting from zero follow the fresh route, buying ingots instead of ore whenever copper is cheaper than their time.
Specialization Trees
There are four trees. The first opens at skill 25 and the others at 50, 60 and 75, and you choose which tree each time. The best Blacksmithing specialization in 12.1.5 is whichever one makes the weapon your server keeps begging for.
| Tree | Sub-specs | What it makes |
|---|---|---|
| Weaponsmithing | Hafted Weapons (maces, axes, polearms), Blades (long and short), Weaponstones | Epic weapons and Refulgent stones |
| Armorsmithing | Articulating (waist, wrists, hands), Sculpted (helm, shoulders, feet), Large Plate (chest, legs, shields) | Epic plate in every slot |
| The Old Ways | Prolific Worker, Second Nature, Resourceful Smith, Alloys | Multicraft, Ingenuity, Resourcefulness, better alloys |
| Craftsmithing | Trade Tools, Trade Accessories | Tools for other professions and Tool Stones |
Spend Order for the Fresh Crafter
- Your first points from treasures and first crafts go into the Weaponsmithing root, roughly 30 of them, because root skill applies to every weapon.
- Blades is the pick if your server swims in Demon Hunters, Warriors and Paladins on swords, while Hafted wins if two-handed maces and axes sell better.
- One branch gets pushed until a single weapon type reaches max quality with as little Concentration as possible, since that is what Venomstone customers demand.
- The Old Ways comes next, starting with Resourceful Smith so each order eats fewer reagents.
- Armorsmithing waits for later weeks unless armor orders on your server still pay.
Spend Order for the Veteran
- If you sank most of your points into one armor slot and orders still come, keep it and aim new weekly Knowledge at the Weaponsmithing root.
- If armor orders died the week the Labyrinth opened, use the reset and rebuild into one weapon branch in a single sitting.
- If you are deep in The Old Ways for alloys, keep it and add Second Nature, since every refunded Concentration point is another max-quality weapon.
- Weaponstones goes last, because Refulgent stones sell steadily and never make anyone rich.
Knowledge Points Ranked by Rate
Every source of Blacksmithing Knowledge Points, from fattest to thinnest. Artisan Blacksmith’s Moxie comes along for free: 5 per Knowledge Point and 30 per patron order.
| Source | Points | Frequency | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patron crafting orders | 12 to 24 | Weekly | Paid as Glimmer of Midnight Blacksmithing Knowledge (+2) and Flicker of Midnight Blacksmithing Knowledge (+1) |
| Eight treasures | 24 | Once | 3 each, skill 1 required |
| Beyond the Event Horizon: Blacksmithing | 10 | Once | Renown 9 with The Singularity, 75 Moxie |
| Thalassian Whetstone and Infused Quenching Oil | 4 | Weekly | +2 each from world loot |
| Trainer weekly quest | 2 | Weekly | Unlocked by Crafters Needed |
| Baby Needs Two Pair of Shoes | 3 | Monthly | Darkmoon Faire, plus 2 skill |
| Thalassian Treatise on Blacksmithing | 1 | Weekly | Needs an Inscription crafter |
| First crafts | 1 each | Once per recipe | Free while leveling |
Weekly cap: there is no published hard number, but the weekly sources add up to about 19 to 31 points depending on patron luck. One-time sources stack on top, which is why day one can hit 50 to 70.
The Eight Treasures
The eight Midnight Blacksmithing treasures give 3 Knowledge each, need only skill 1 and are per character. Loot them before you buy a single plan.
| Treasure | Zone | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Sin’dorei Master’s Forgemace | Silvermoon City | /way #2393 49.2 61.3 |
| Silvermoon Blacksmith’s Hammer | Silvermoon City | /way #2393 48.5 74.7 |
| Deconstructed Forge Techniques | Silvermoon City | /way #2393 26.9 60.3 |
| Metalworking Cheat Sheet | Eversong Woods | 56.8, 40.7 |
| Silvermoon Smithing Kit | Eversong Woods | 48.3, 75.7 |
| Carefully Racked Spear | Zul’Aman, Atal’Aman | 33.3, 66.4 |
| Rutaani Floratender’s Sword | Harandar | 66.3, 50.7 |
| Voidstorm Defense Spear | Voidstorm | 30.6, 68.9 |
The spear in Zul’Aman may be phased behind the campaign. The sword in Harandar sits on top of a mushroom, because walking was too easy.
The One-Time Knowledge Reset
The profession Knowledge reset from 12.1 still works in 12.1.5, and Theremis is the only NPC who does it.
- It refunds every Knowledge Point spent in the one profession you pick.
- It unlearns every recipe you unlocked through Knowledge, and relearns them if you buy the same nodes again.
- It works once per profession, and the second spend is locked for good.
- It punishes improvisation, so plan the full new build before you talk to him.
Blacksmithing is worth the single reset only if your points sit in armor slots nobody orders anymore. Venomstones never touch armor, so a smith who rebuilds into one weapon branch trades a dying market for the only crafted slot that keeps scaling this patch. Already burned the reset in August? Enjoy living with it.
Moxie and What to Buy First
Moxie is locked to Blacksmithing and cannot be traded across professions. It is spent at Eriden in the Bazaar and at Renown vendors.
- The Renown book comes first, bought from Void Researcher Anomander for 75 Moxie, because +10 Knowledge beats any plan.
- The 150-Moxie epic plans come second, picked for the weapon your branch supports, such as Blood Knight’s Mercy or Magister’s Cleaver.
- Master Smith’s Surplus Reagents comes last, since it is a bag of ore with a slim chance of a recipe.
Crafting Stats That Matter
- Resourcefulness refunds part of the reagents on a proc, which matters on alloys and on orders where you supply the metal.
- Multicraft makes extra copies of stackable crafts like alloys and stones, and does nothing for a weapon.
- Ingenuity refunds part of the Concentration you spend, which turns one week of Concentration into more max-quality crafts.
- Concentration guarantees the next quality step, refills slowly and belongs only on crafts someone is paying for.
Fresh Crafter
Your stats are bad and that is fine. Skill from tree nodes outweighs every stat while you climb, so take Resourcefulness from the toolbox and spend Concentration only on paid orders.
Veteran
Ingenuity through Second Nature first, Resourcefulness second. Multicraft matters only if you still run an alloy shop, and in 12.1.5 that shop pays less than a weapon order.
Season 2 Crafting: Sparks, Crests, Venomstones
Spark of Tides crafting works like every season before it. Armor and one-handers cost 2 Sparks, two-handers cost 4, base item level runs 292 to 305 by quality, and the result is tagged Tidal Crafted. Hero and Myth Mistcrests in the order push it up the track.
12.1.5 crafted weapons get one extra lever. Once a maximum-quality piece is fully upgraded, ten Venomstones lift it further, and PTR testers put the result in the low to mid 330s. The stones drop from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey champion chests, after the quest Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom from Orin Straylight.
The Blacksmithing embellishment of the season is Hunter’s Ritual Stone: random secondary stats, 50 percent stronger during outdoor Prey hunts, plans from Construct V’anore at Prey rank 2. Devourer Demon Hunter guides pair it with a crafted Spellbreaker’s Warglaive as the first craft of the season.
Gold: What Sells and What Dies
Midnight Blacksmithing gold making is order-driven. Gold guides rate the profession A-tier for gear and weak for consumables, which matches reality: you sell craftsmanship, not volume.
| Product | Channel | Margin | Dead in Season 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max-quality weapons with the Prey embellishment | Crafting orders | Best in the profession | Yes |
| Plate armor | Crafting orders | Shrinking since the Labyrinth | Yes |
| Tools like the Sunforged Pickaxe | Auction house | Steady | No |
| Refulgent Whetstone, Refulgent Weightstone, Refulgent Razorstone | Auction house | Thin, volume only | No |
| Sterling Alloy and Gloaming Alloy | Auction house | Thin, Multicraft only | No |
| Decor | Auction house | Slow but permanent | No |
- Weapons and armor sell through orders, because customers bring Sparks and crests you will never own enough of.
- Every commission should price in the Concentration it burns, or you are crafting for exposure.
- Stones, alloys, tools and decor belong on the auction house, where Multicraft and Resourcefulness are the whole margin.
The week Season 3 starts, Spark orders drop to zero, the Prey embellishment becomes a museum piece and Venomstone demand evaporates. Tools, stones and decor keep selling, so do not hoard weapon materials past the season.
Materials and Where to Dig
Every Midnight ore spawns in every Midnight zone; the zone only changes the node modifier and the Mote it drops. Dazzling Thorium is the rare bonus, Dusk-Shrouded Stone comes from prospecting, and Luminant Flux comes from Eriden.
| Zone | Modifier | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Eversong Woods | Lightfused | Mote of Light |
| Zul’Aman | Wild | Mote of Wild Magic |
| Harandar | Primal | Mote of Primal Energy |
| Voidstorm | Voidbound | Mote of Pure Void |
12.1 added The Coiled Isle. Cursed nodes there drop Cursebound Globe and a 5 minute Deftness buff, while venomous nodes only spawn after a Curse Surge and leave puddles of Neutralized Venom Clot.
In 12.1.5, check the clock before you fly. During the ten Aqir minutes, leave Eversong and Zul’Aman to the swarm and mine Harandar or Voidstorm; the other fifty minutes, Eversong is the shortest loop from the forge.
Housing Decor
Every profession crafts decor without an order, and these eight Midnight pieces are the Blacksmithing share.
| Decor | Plans from |
|---|---|
| Gilded Silvermoon Anvil | Caeris Fairdawn, Eversong Woods |
| Gilded Silvermoon Hanger | Caeris Fairdawn, Eversong Woods |
| Masterwork Crafting Hammer | Eriden, Silvermoon City |
| Ornamental Silvermoon Hanger | Gathering nodes |
| Ren’dorei Anvil | Void Researcher Anomander, Voidstorm |
| Amani Forgemaster’s Workbench | Jan’sari the Watchful, Renown 5 with Zul’jarra’s Forces |
| Amani Forgemaster’s Decorative Spear | Fishing, added in 12.1 |
| Amani Forgemaster’s Rack | Fishing, added in 12.1 |
Who Buys Your Work and What to Pair It With
- Death Knights, Arms and Fury Warriors and Retribution Paladins buy two-handers like Blood Knight’s Warblade and Blood Knight’s Mercy.
- Protection Paladins and Protection Warriors want Spellbreaker’s Blade.
- Demon Hunters buy Spellbreaker’s Warglaive for both hands, which means two orders per customer.
- Every plate wearer is an armor customer, starting from Spellbreaker’s Bracers.
- Mining is mandatory unless you enjoy paying other people’s rent.
- Jewelcrafting prospects the stone you need and shares your ore.
- An Inscription alt writes your weekly Treatise.

Where is the Knowledge reset NPC?
Theremis stands in the Silvermoon Bazaar at 45.0, 56.0, near the crafting order table, usable once per profession.
How many Knowledge Points can a blacksmith earn per week?
Roughly 19 to 31, depending on patron orders, plus monthly Darkmoon Faire points and any unclaimed one-time sources.
Which specialization should a new blacksmith take first in 12.1.5?
Weaponsmithing, because crafted weapons are the only Blacksmithing slot that Venomstones can push higher this patch.
