WoW 12.1.5 Player Housing Guide: Midnight Season 2

WoW 12.1.5 player housing gets a polish, not an expansion. Page Up and Page Down now jump floors in floorplan edit mode, the blueprint button opens your collection, stairwells export whole, dye tooltips finally name the dye you burn, and public neighborhoods stop drawing the same endeavor twice in a row. No new house levels, no bigger budgets, no new exteriors. The real upgrades (level 12, blueprints, pet beds, basements) shipped in 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek, and everything below is built on them.

Housing gives you zero combat power. Your Kith’ix pull can drop Kith’ix’s Seal as decor, and your Season 2 key and raid kills feed generic endeavor tasks that pay house XP. That is the entire overlap between progression and your living room, and Blizzard clearly intends to keep it that way.

What 12.1.5 changes in housing, and what it does not

These are the patch 12.1.5 housing changes from Blizzard’s October 1 content update notes, translated into consequences.

ChangeWhat it means for you
Floor keybinds in floorplan edit mode, Page Up and Page Down by defaultMulti-floor builds stop requiring a mouse safari through the floor selector.
Blueprint button shortcut to the Blueprints CollectionOne click from the toolbar instead of a trip through the dashboard.
Stairwells export every vertically connected stairwell roomA four-unit staircase travels as one piece and attaches from its bottom or top floor if nothing collides.
Blueprint Contents List skips dyes your decor already matchesThe import shopping list shows only dye items you will actually consume.
Dye tooltips in Customization Mode name the Dye Item usedYou see the cost before you paint, not after.
Public Neighborhoods cannot get the same endeavor back to backNo second month with the same visitors and the same vendor.

PTR data adds more, and it stays flagged as PTR until the servers say otherwise. Over 200 decor recipes had reagent costs cut, mostly lumber, so crafting a Kharanos Bookcase no longer eats 50 Ironwood Lumber. The first PTR build also put 84 Shadowlands decor pieces on Shadowlands vendors for 200 to 500 Reservoir Anima, and PTR neighborhoods gained a holiday shop with Brewfest and Hallow’s End decor.

Missing from The Promise of Tomorrow housing package: mannequins, copy-paste, multi-select and buying extra copies of owned decor from home. Blizzard announced every one of them for Eclipse, the 12.2 update. Anyone promising you 12.1.5 mannequins is selling you a rumor with a gold price attached.

What 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek added

  • House level cap rose to 12, and level 12 unlocks large exteriors plus the biggest interior and room budgets.
  • The entry room can now sit on any floor, which makes basements a real layout instead of a clipping trick.
  • Blueprints save a full house, the interior, the exterior or a single room, with 50 manual slots and 10 autosave slots.
  • Blueprint codes share through chat or the clipboard and work across regions, China excluded.
  • A new Export permission decides who may copy your build, and it defaults to No One.
  • Pet Beds let you assign non-combat pets, now up to 100 indoors and 25 outdoors, and only indoor pets may roam.
  • Four endeavors arrived: Knock-Off Amani with Griftah, Every Bakar Has Its Day, Candle Culture and Vacation Season.
  • Completed favor bars, including old 12.0 endeavors, now leave permanent changes in the neighborhood.
  • Dye pigments were converted, so dyeable decor shows every color without a separate item per shade.
  • Vines and Hanging Plants plus Pet Beds became decor categories, and deleting an empty room skips the confirmation popup.

If you learn one 12.1 tool, learn WoW housing blueprints, and save one before every experiment. The game only creates an autosave when you import someone else’s code, not when you wreck your own living room by hand.

How to get a house: quest, districts, cost, coordinates

Here is how to get a house in WoW Midnight, from login to keys. Any character on a Midnight account receives A House For You automatically. It points you to your capital’s portal room, a steward then walks you around, and you buy the plot at its For Sale sign. Plots are taken per instance, so if yours is occupied, open the House Finder from the Housing Dashboard or ask the Steward. Each neighborhood instance holds 50 plots.

DistrictThemePortalCoordinates

Razorwind ShoresDurotar, Echo Isles and Azshara biomes, Orc and Blood Elf exteriorsPathfinder’s Den, OrgrimmarOrgrimmar 59.0, 89.5.

12.1.5 adds player coordinates under the minimap, so for once you can read these numbers without an addon. After the purchase, Teleport Home on the dashboard replaces the walk, and a party member’s portrait offers View Houses for visits.

  • The first house is free.
  • A second house, in the other district, costs 1,000 gold.
  • Moving to another plot or neighborhood charges a nominal fee and carries every interior and exterior decor instantly.
  • There is no rent, no upkeep and no login requirement, so the house survives your next unsubscribe.
  • Each account owns one house per district, and an EU account and a US account each get their own pair.

Neighborhoods: public, private, and who controls what

Public neighborhoods are created automatically, accept anyone from your server community and pick their endeavor for you. Private neighborhoods come in two forms. A Guild Neighborhood needs 10 recently active accounts in the guild, while a Charter Neighborhood needs 10 signatures from separate accounts, and both start at the Steward with the option to found your own. Guild leadership and neighborhood ownership are independent, and anyone removed from the guild loses their place in its neighborhood.

WoW neighborhood endeavors are the one system residents share. Each runs a little over a month, its progress bar has four milestones that unlock decor at the endeavor vendor, and every task also pays you House XP and Community Coupons personally. Repeat tasks lose value with each completion and reset to full every week, and grouping with two neighbors adds a 20 percent bonus.

Offensive neighborhood names go to the Bulletin Board report option. Only Guild Leaders and Neighborhood Managers choose endeavors, which is the closest thing housing has to a homeowners association, and it behaves exactly like one.

The editor: every mode, every rule, every annoyance

ModeWhat it does
BasicPlaces and moves decor with surface snapping and collision, so nothing clips through walls.
AdvancedAdds Move, Rotate and Scale toggles, removes collision, and allows floating and clipping.
Edit FloorplanAdds, removes and arranges rooms and floors, now with Page Up and Page Down floor switching.
CustomizeApplies dyes, swaps structural pieces and assigns pets to Pet Beds.
CleanupStrips placed decor quickly when a room needs a reset.
Exterior customizationChanges the house type, size and exterior pieces your level allows.
  • Every placed copy needs its own owned copy, so four chairs means buying four chairs.
  • Each decor costs 1, 3 or 5 budget points, and that cost is fixed regardless of scale.
  • Outdoor lights work since 12.0.7 but carry placement limits indoor lights do not.
  • Pets appear only on a Pet Bed, and outdoor pets never leave theirs.
  • Decor lost inside a wall comes back through the Placed Decor List in Advanced mode.
  • Editing is blocked during combat.

The limits that frustrate people most are all still live in 12.1.5. There is no multi-select and no copy-paste until 12.2, so a wall of 40 candles is 40 separate placements. Extra copies must be bought at the original vendor, often in a zone you abandoned three expansions ago. Rotation readouts sometimes show the wrong angle, which is why addons like Better Housing Controls exist. And the exterior budget freezes at 350 from level 7, no matter how many levels you grind after that.

Decor budget and how to work inside it

The WoW housing decor budget is three separate pools: interior points, exterior points and room points. Interior and room budgets rise with every level, while exterior stops growing at level 7. WoW house level 12 XP totals 21,900, and the curve steepens sharply after level 6.

Reader one: you just got the keys

You start at level 1 with 910 interior points, 200 exterior points and 19 room points. Do not buy anything yet. Midnight already granted decor for your old achievements, so your catalog is probably fuller than your wallet thinks.

  • Spend room points first, because a layout you like is cheaper than furniture you move twice.
  • Use 1-point items for clutter and save 5-point items for the single piece each room is built around.
  • Buy one copy of every uncommon or better decor you lack, because each first collection pays 10 House XP.
  • Skip bulk Common decor, because it pays no House XP and gold purchases of it cannot be refunded.
  • Talk to Jorvan Longmoor in Founder’s Point or Rotha in Razorwind Shores to level, because XP banks but the level never applies itself.
  • Join your neighborhood’s endeavor on day one, because it is the largest House XP source you have.

Scaling never changes cost. A 1-point item stretched to furniture size still costs 1 point, while a large piece may cost 5. Every dense build in 12.1.5 runs on this rule, and the game will never tell you about it.

Reader two: the house is built, now squeeze it

Level 12 means 5,975 interior points, 350 exterior points and 134 room points, and 12.1.5 does not raise any of them. Optimization is now pure subtraction and substitution.

  • Replace 5-point anchors with scaled 1-point equivalents wherever the silhouette survives.
  • Audit the yard first, because single Elwynn cobblestones cost 1 point each against a hard 350 ceiling.
  • Run Cleanup on decor buried inside walls and floors, because invisible decor still bills you.
  • Move the entry room to make a basement instead of adding a room you then have to furnish.
  • Keep A and B versions in your 50 blueprint slots before any rework, and name them like you will forget why.
  • Build stairwells as modules now that 12.1.5 exports the whole vertical stack.
  • Read the Blueprint Contents List before importing, because it now shows only the dye items you will actually burn.

Warband versus character

SystemShared or per character
HousesOne per district per account, shared by the warband, but each house has one owning character.

Decor collectionWarband-wide, so an alt’s drop lands in the same catalog.
Community CouponsWarbound and spendable at any endeavor vendor, even another neighborhood’s.
LumberWarband-bound, so Dornic Fir Lumber and Dragonpine Lumber cannot be bought, only gathered.
Kith’ix’s SealWarband-bound decor from the Kith’ix encounter.

Owning characterCannot be deleted or use character services until ownership moves to another character.

Does housing give any gameplay benefit

Anyone asking is WoW housing worth it for raiding gets a short answer: no. A house gives no stats, no buffs and no crests of its own. The extras that exist are travel and errands.

  • Teleport Home on a 15-minute cooldown, plus Return to Previous Location, works as a second hearthstone.
  • Endeavor tasks pay gold, character XP and crests alongside coupons, and your normal Season 2 activity completes many of them.
  • House level 10 grants one Arcanostorage Sphere per week through Treasures from Distant Lands.

Neither the Kindo’jan run nor the Aqir Invasion has any housing hook in the 12.1.5 notes. The first real utility, target dummies in a Calibration Chamber, is announced for 12.2. Until then your house is a very expensive screenshot.

The time and gold cost of a finished house

No WoW Midnight housing guide can quote you a fixed price, so here is the math instead.

House XP sourceXPPace
Full endeavorUp to 2,500 per houseRoughly one endeavor per month
New uncommon or better decor10 each100 new pieces equals 1,000 XP
Common decor0Never

Endeavors alone carry a fresh house to level 12 in about nine months. Two houses run two endeavors, but each house levels on its own, so a second house doubles the work rather than halving it. A veteran with a deep achievement catalog who joined every endeavor since January is likely capped already.

Gold is less predictable. The house is free and the second costs 1,000 gold. Achievement trophy reprints from old vendors run from a few hundred gold to several thousand, and one player reported spending 80,000 gold on about 20 Auction House decor for roughly 200 XP. Our estimate: a careful vendor and endeavor build lands in the low five figures, while a showpiece made from crafted decor runs into six. The 12.1.5 recipe cuts help, since a single Apothecary’s Worktable once wanted 8 Black Lotus and the PTR asks for one.

Mistakes that cost the most to undo

  1. Buying Common decor in bulk with gold costs you twice, because it cannot be refunded and pays no House XP.
  2. Buying duplicates for XP wastes everything after the first copy, because only the first collection counts.
  3. Importing a blueprint without saving your own layout first gambles on 10 autosave slots you do not control.
  4. Leaving or getting kicked from the guild that hosts your neighborhood evicts your house from it.
  5. Parking house ownership on a character you plan to delete or service blocks that character until you reassign the house.
  6. Spending exterior points on single cobblestones starves the yard, because exterior points cap at 350 for good.
  7. Grinding repeat tasks past the 2,250 House XP endeavor cap earns coupons but no levels.
  8. Building anything a report can flag risks a full reset of yard and interior plus a possible suspension.

Does patch 12.1.5 add new house levels or a bigger decor budget?

No. House level stays capped at 12, and interior, exterior and room budgets are unchanged from patch 12.1.

Is player housing in WoW purely cosmetic?

Almost. Houses give no stats or buffs; the only practical perks are the home teleport and endeavor task rewards.

How much does a house cost in Midnight?

The first plot is free. A second house costs 1,000 gold, and moving plots charges a small fee.

Are mannequins in patch 12.1.5?

No. Mannequins, copy-paste and multi-select were announced for Eclipse, the 12.2 update, not for The Promise of Tomorrow.

Do alts share my house and decor?

Yes. Houses, decor, Community Coupons and lumber are warband-wide, but each house is owned by one specific character.
