WoW Forever Boar Hunter Pet Guide: Tame Spots, Charge Ranks and Grunter

The WoW Forever boar is a tank with a root button: high health, medium armor, 10% less damage than baseline, a diet that includes literally everything, and Charge, the only pet root in the beast roster. The endgame answer is simple: tame Plagued Swine in Terrordale for Charge 6, or camp the rare Grunter in the Blasted Lands for the black skin, Dash 3 and a free course in wasting your life.

Route for people who stop reading here: starter boar in Durotar or Dun Morogh, Charge 2 in Loch Modan or Redridge Mountains, Charge 3 from Bellygrub or Razorfen Kraul, Charge 5 from Ashmane Boar, Charge 6 from Plagued Swine. Charge 4 has no teacher anywhere in Azeroth, so do not waste an evening looking for it.

Boar Family Stats and Where It Ranks

Every tamed beast gets family multipliers on top of its level stats. The Boar family trades damage for durability, and it is the only family pairing high health with medium armor.

A level 60 boar sits around 3174 health, 4357 armor and 81 to 103 damage per hit, roughly 46 DPS before happiness and talents. A cat runs 2% less health and 10% more damage, which is the entire argument between the two families in one sentence.

Ranking: top three for soloing and holding aggro next to bears and turtles, bottom half for raw damage, first place for starting pets because it eats whatever garbage is in your bags. Nobody picks a boar for the meters. People pick it because it stays alive while they make mistakes.

The best spots are the ones that teach something. Starter zones give Charge 1 and nothing else. Loch Modan east shore and western Redridge Mountains are the only Charge 2 sources, all inside Alliance territory, so Horde hunters take the scenic route through contested roads and get ganked for a rank that adds 50 attack power.

Level 10 class quests hand you a boar for free: Taming the Beast sends Orc and Troll hunters after Dire Mottled Boars south of Razor Hill, and the dwarf version Taming the Beast points at Large Crag Boars below Kharanos. Human and Skyborne hunter taming chains are new in Forever and not published yet.

How to Tame a Boar Without Dying

Tame Beast is a 20 second channel that drops your armor by 100%. Any interruption, including the boar walking out of range after a knockback, resets the whole thing.

1. Cast Beast Lore first to confirm level, abilities and that the target is tameable.
2. Place Freezing Trap at your feet so the boar freezes in front of you.
3. Pull with Concussive Shot and walk back onto the trap.
4. Start Tame Beast the moment the boar is frozen, and keep a Scare Beast ready for the last seconds.
5. Keep Aspect of the Monkey on if the boar breaks out early, since dodge buys you the remaining ticks.
6. Clear nearby mobs before you begin, because an add hitting you is still a hit and still cancels the channel.

Forever merges melee, ranged and spell hit into one stat, so traps land more reliably than they did in 2006. Grunter still knocks you back on every swing that connects, and no stat fixes that.

Boar Pet Skills and Where to Farm Every Rank

A boar learns Bite, Charge, Cower, Dash and Growl as actives, plus every trainer passive. You learn a skill by taming a beast that knows it, then teach it through Beast Training. Only four actives fit on the bar, so one of the five stays home.

Charge costs 35 Focus, works from 8 to 25 yards, roots for 1 second and has a 25 second cooldown. The WoW Forever Charge rank 6 upgrade is worth the drive to Eastern Plaguelands: 550 attack power on one hit is the biggest burst a boar will ever produce.

Bite 8 lives exclusively on worgs inside a level 56 dungeon, which is Blizzard’s way of saying a boar owner needs friends. Growl and all passives come from the pet trainer.

A Best Friend boar at 60 has 300 training points. Spending replaces the lower rank, so you pay only the cost of the highest rank you hold.

Blizzard has not published Forever pet families, taming lists or pet abilities. Every rank, source and number in this guide is the Classic baseline the BlizzCon demo still runs on. Beta starts September 17, launch is November 4, and if a spawn moves in between, Beast Lore will tell you before your stable slot does.

Raid or PvP: What a Boar Is Actually For

The honest answer to raids is no. A 0.90 damage pet on a 2.0 swing dies to cleave, and the new Beast Mastery talent Focused Fire pays 1% damage per point only while a pet is alive, which rewards families that hit harder than a boar. A WoW Forever beast mastery pet for Barrow Deeps or Hyjal Summit should bite, not absorb.

Marksmanship makes the question worse: Lone Wolf grants 20% damage with no pet out, so a marksman raid hunter dismisses the boar entirely. Summon Hawk also shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot and competes for your attention.

Open world is where the WoW Forever boar pays rent. Charge roots a fleeing rogue, a mage walking in to Frost Nova you, or a flag carrier for exactly the second you need. The WoW Forever PvP hunter pet shortlist is short: boar for the root, owl for the four second disarm seen in the demo spellbook.

• Solo elites and group quests reward the boar, because high health plus Growl lets you shoot without getting hit.
• Leveling rewards the boar, because food costs nothing when the pet eats everything you loot.
• Battlegrounds reward the boar, because Charge plus Dash 3 closes gaps on runners.
• Raids punish the boar, because low damage and melee position waste the Focused Fire points you bought.
• Dungeon tanking with a pet is a myth, because a real tank will pull it off in two globals anyway.

New Forever talents help the tank role slightly: a Beast Mastery rank now adds 3% pet health and 3% pet armor together, and another raises pet Focus regeneration by 10%, which means more Charges per fight. The best hunter pet WoW Forever offers for pure damage is still not a pig.

Feeding, Happiness and Loyalty

Boars eat bread, cheese, fish, fruit, fungus and meat, the only family that accepts all six. Feed Pet gives 35, 17 or 8 happiness per tick depending on how close the food level is to the pet level, and any combat interrupts the meal.

WoW Forever pet happiness follows the Classic rules, so a starving boar deals 40% less damage than a fed one, which for a family already at 0.90 is embarrassing.

• Mage food works, so Conjured Bread costs you a polite whisper.
• Vendor bread like Freshly Baked Bread and cheese like Fine Aged Cheddar scale with level.
• Fruit such as Shiny Red Apple or Tel’Abim Banana drops from mobs and costs nothing.
• Fungus like Forest Mushroom Cap and meat like Roasted Quail fill the rest of the bag.
• Fish such as Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper or Harvest Fish is free for anyone with a fishing pole and patience.

Loyalty climbs with feeding and time spent out. Each level decides how much food the pet demands and how many training points it earns: level multiplied by loyalty minus one.

1. Rebellious is loyalty 1, and the boar can leave you forever if it goes hungry or dies repeatedly.
2. Unruly is loyalty 2, and it can still abandon you.
3. Submissive is loyalty 3, and it tolerates occasional bad luck.
4. Dependable is loyalty 4, and food demands keep dropping.
5. Faithful is loyalty 5, and running away takes real effort on your part.
6. Best Friend is loyalty 6, and it needs the least food and gives the full 300 training points at 60.

Freshly tamed boars start with negative training points, so a new Plagued Swine cannot learn anything until it trusts you. Mounting hides the pet without draining happiness.

Best Named Boar Tames: Rares, Uniques and Looks

Every WoW Forever boar shares one model with nine skins. Stats are identical inside the family, so the only things worth hunting are unique skins and bonus skills.

A WoW Forever Grunter tame is the Hunter endurance trial: player reports put his respawn between 32 and 48 hours, near the road south of Nethergarde Keep, surrounded by Ashmane Boars and every other player grinding them. He knocks you back out of the channel, so trap first and pray second.

Princess is the funny one. She sits at the Brackwell Pumpkin Patch in Elwynn Forest with Porcine Entourage bodyguards, and every Alliance player on Princess Must Die! wants her dead. Tame her first, then let them cry.

• Agathelos the Raging is the level 33 boar boss of Razorfen Kraul and cannot be tamed.
• Tamed Battleboar in the same dungeon already belongs to the quilboar and refuses a second owner.
• Armored skins are only visual, so an Agam’ar and a Bellygrub at equal level hit exactly the same.

Boar Lore in the Forever Timeline

Boars in Warcraft descend from Agamaggan, the Great Boar and one of the Wild Gods. He fell during the War of the Ancients, and the giant thorns of the Razorfen grew from his corpse. The quilboar who live inside Razorfen Kraul still worship him, which explains why they feed their pet boars bat guano and armor them like cavalry.

Mottled Boars are the first thing a new orc hunter in Durotar kills, and Crag Boars are the first thing a dwarf hunter tames below Kharanos. Azeroth teaches its hunters on pigs, then acts surprised when they stay loyal to them.

World of Warcraft: Forever runs in its own time bubble, 25 years after the Dark Portal opened, after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core. That window matters for pets: Terrordale still breeds Plagued Swine for the Scourge, and the Blasted Lands still host Grunter without any Iron Horde phase erasing him.

This World of Warcraft Forever hunter guide cannot promise the new zones hide boars. Mount Hyjal, Riverglades, Shen’dralas and Zephras Isle have not shown their wildlife, and until someone Beast Lores a pig there, the old spots above remain the WoW Classic Plus hunter pet map.
