WoW Forever Crescent Key Guide: Dire Maul Key Run
The WoW Forever Crescent Key has no quest chain and no attunement paperwork. Enter the free East wing of Dire Maul in Feralas, talk to the imp Pusillin right inside, chase him through five stops, kill him on the balcony and loot the Crescent Key. Every group member loots a personal copy, the key is permanent, and it opens the West and North wings plus the Library doors.
Bring a level 55+ group of five with real AoE and an interrupt. Grab Pusillin and the Elder Azj’Tordin before you go, because the imp also drops the Book of Incantations and a quest turn-in is worth far more than a pile of trash kills in World of Warcraft Forever Dire Maul.

What changes in World of Warcraft Forever
Blizzard has announced no rework of the Dire Maul key, so the run below follows Classic Anniversary data, the same chase, the same drop and the same doors. Old skips and old spawn spots still apply until a Forever patch says otherwise.
The context around the key did change, and it changes how you should run it. Community trackers list World of Warcraft Forever dungeons with Dire Maul East at 54 to 60 and North at 56 to 60, and those ranges are reported, not confirmed. The rest is from Blizzard and devs.
- Experience from dungeon mobs is cut hard while dungeon quest turn-ins give much more, so the first keyed run with every quest in your log is the one that matters.
- Mage Blizzard slows less and Paladin Consecration hits its strong component on only four targets, so the imp wave at Pusillin hurts more than old boosting videos suggest.
- Trash is tuned to take longer and crowd control is required again, so the linked tree packs on the chase route are no longer free.
- The new Shen’dralas zone south of Desolace ties its story to the Shen’dralar, Eldre’Thalas and Dire Maul, which makes the doors this key opens lore relevant again.
- Unique boss items are raised to at least blue quality, and a blue BoP drop unlocks its appearance for every eligible player in the group.
Prerequisites before you start
The WoW Forever Dire Maul key has almost no gate. Nobody checks reputation, nobody asks for a previous dungeon, and the East wing portal is never locked.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Level | 55 or higher is sensible, 60 is comfortable |
| Reputation | None required |
| Items | None required, fire resistance gear and potions help |
| Other dungeons | None required |
| Quest for the book | Pusillin and the Elder Azj’Tordin becomes available around level 54 |
| Keyring space | The key uses one keyring slot |
Where the run starts: coordinates
There is only one questgiver worth visiting, and he is optional. Pick up the book quest first, then walk into the dungeon.
| Point | Location | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Quest pickup | Azj’Tordin at Lariss Pavilion, Feralas | 76, 37 |
| Dire Maul main entrance | Road north of The High Wilderness | 59, 45 |
| East wing portal | East side of the ruins | 64, 30 |
| Pusillin spawn | Directly inside the East wing entrance | In instance |
- Horde players fly to Camp Mojache, run west on the main road and turn north at the fork above The High Wilderness.
- Alliance players fly to Thalanaar on the Thousand Needles border and ride west around Camp Mojache, or sail east from Feathermoon Stronghold.
- Azj’Tordin sits a short ride northeast of Camp Mojache, which makes the pickup free for Horde and slightly suicidal for Alliance.
Full step by step Pusillin chase
The wow forever pusillin chase is a talk, run, clear loop. Each time you reach the imp, talk to him until he flees, then clear every pack between you and his next stop.
- Accept Pusillin and the Elder Azj’Tordin from Azj’Tordin at 76, 37 in Feralas.
- Enter the East wing portal and find Pusillin to your left just inside.
- Talk to him for the first time and he runs down the corridor.
- Clear the corridor, where Warpwood Tangler and Warpwood Treant are linked and always pull together.
- Reach the imp at the end of the corridor, talk again, and follow him through the left turn heading east.
- Ignore the southern side exit on the east stretch, turn left again to face north and clear to the end of the path.
- Talk once more and he runs down a hallway into a hall full of satyrs.
- Clear the satyr hall carefully, because some Wildspawn Satyr packs contain stealthed mobs.
- Talk to the imp in the middle of the hall and he escapes up the ramp on the right.
- Clear the ramp, then buff, drink to full mana and equip fire resistance before the last conversation.
- Talk to him on the landing for the final time and he summons Wildspawn Imp adds before growing into his combat form.
- Kill the imps, kill Pusillin, and have every single player loot the Crescent Key and the Book of Incantations.
- Clear the rest of the room and take the eastern tunnel out to Lariss Pavilion if you want the turn-in now.
- Hand the book to Azj’Tordin, choose Spry Boots or Sprinter’s Sword, and collect 200 Shen’dralar reputation.
Every player loots a personal Crescent Key from the corpse, and nobody wins it on a roll. Anyone who leaves the group before looting walks away keyless and gets to redo the entire chase, so make the tank wait.
What you kill at each step
| Stage | Enemies | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Corridor | Warpwood Tangler, Warpwood Treant | Linked pairs, use crowd control |
| East and north paths | Warpwood Crusher, Phase Lasher | Not linked, pull one at a time |
| Satyr hall | Wildspawn Satyr, Wildspawn Shadowstalker | Stealthed mobs, watch the flanks |
| Balcony | Pusillin and Wildspawn Imp adds | Fire damage boss fight |
Pusillin boss fight
He hits with fire and nothing else, so fire resistance is the cheapest insurance you will buy all week. The adds are weak and die to AoE while the tank holds the boss.
| Ability | What it does | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Fireball | Single target fire nuke | Interrupt with Kick or Counterspell |
| Fire Blast | Instant fire damage | Heal through it |
| Blast Wave | Fire AoE around him | Casters keep distance |
| Spirit of Runn Tum | Self buff, bigger size, 20% melee haste, 50% spell reflect | Casters pause while it is up, melee burns |
- The tank grabs the boss first, and AoE starts only after threat is stable.
- A Warlock can Banish a demon pack on the satyr stretch when a pull goes wrong.
- A Hunter can drop Freezing Trap on a linked tree pull in the corridor.
- Pusillin also drops Recipe: Runn Tum Tuber Surprise, and Runn Tum Tuber comes from Warpwood Pod along the route.
Skips, shortcuts and workarounds
Rogues and engineers can ignore the key entirely, which is cheaper only if your time is worthless. WoW Forever lockpicking and explosives open the same doors.
| Method | Requirement | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Pick Lock | 300 lockpicking, so a level 60 Rogue | Works on the Crescent doors |
| Powerful Seaforium Charge | Engineering 275, consumed on use | Works, costs a charge every run |
| Truesilver Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing | Fails with a skill too low error |
| Arcanite Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing | Old reports only, not worth the Arcanite |
| Corpse run trick | One death outside the door | Resurrect on the far side of the door |
- A stealthed Rogue can solo the chase by talking, dying and repeating, but stealth detecting satyrs on the route will punish carelessness.
- A Druid has reported the same stealth approach, with fire resistance potions carrying the final fight.
- The Lariss Pavilion door also takes the key and drops you at the far end of the East wing near Alzzin the Wildshaper.
- The Gordok Inner Door Key is not the Crescent Key, and a Large Seaforium Charge or Rogue handles that inner door on tribute runs.
- The Gordok Shackle Key is a single use item, so it never replaces the permanent key.
What the Crescent Key unlocks
The key is a soft attunement. WoW Forever Dire Maul West and North both start behind a locked gate in the courtyard, and one loot fixes both forever.
| Door | Leads to | Why you care |
|---|---|---|
| West courtyard gate | Capital Gardens | Immol’thar, Prince Tortheldrin, Tendris Warpwood |
| North courtyard gate | Gordok Commons | King Gordok, Captain Kromcrush, Gordok Tribute |
| Library doors | Shen’dralar library from West and North | Libram quests such as Elven Legends |
| Lariss Pavilion door | Back end of Warpwood Quarter | Shortcut into Dire Maul East |
WoW Forever Dire Maul North tribute runs, Unfinished Gordok Business and The Treasure of the Shen’dralar all begin behind these gates. There are no teleports and no raid access attached, only doors, which is still more than most keys give you.
Quests worth carrying on the key run
Forever pays for turn-ins, not kills, so pack the log. WoW Forever keys and attunements cost nothing extra when stacked on quests you already need.
- Pusillin and the Elder Azj’Tordin finishes on the same run and rewards boots or a sword.
- Lethtendris’s Web sends you to Lethtendris up the southeast ramp after the chase.
- The Madness Within and The Treasure of the Shen’dralar wait for you once the West gate opens.
- Nostro’s Compendium of Dragon Slaying can drop anywhere in Dire Maul and starts the Quel’Serrar line.
Lore: whose key is it anyway
Dire Maul was Eldre’Thalas, a Highborne city built to guard Queen Azshara’s secrets. After the Sundering, the surviving Highborne became the Shen’dralar, and Prince Tortheldrin kept them immortal by draining the demon Immol’thar.
Azj’Tordin gave up immortality to escape the Prince’s madness. On the way out, Pusillin stole his book of incantations and the key to the halls of Eldre’Thalas. The elder no longer wants the key, which is how you inherit it.
The WoW Forever Shen’dralar storyline continues outside the instance in Shen’dralas, so the gate you open with this key now leads somewhere the Forever narrative actually cares about.
Common mistakes
- Someone leaves before looting and must repeat the whole chase.
- The group pulls a linked tree pair without crowd control and wipes in the first corridor.
- Casters keep nuking into Spirit of Runn Tum and reflect their own spells into their faces.
- Players skip the book quest and throw away the biggest experience reward of the run.
- An engineer blows a charge on a West gate that a keyed player could have opened for free.
