WoW Forever Deadmines Guide: Route, Bosses and Full Loot Table
Short version of this WoW Forever Deadmines guide: five players, level 18 to 23, entrance inside the Defias Hideout in Moonbrook, Westfall, around 42.4, 72.6. Eight bosses, Edwin VanCleef last, Cookie killed on the way out. One tank, one healer, three damage, and at least one crowd control effect that is not a warrior shouting.
What actually changed for The Deadmines is the reward layer, not the fights. Blizzard states that every dungeon drop was re-examined, that unique dungeon boss items are now blue quality, and that hundreds of new drops were added. Combat pacing, threat and crowd control stay Classic. Every encounter script below is the Classic script, because Blizzard has published no boss list for the old dungeons yet, and guessing at unpublished numbers is how guides get people killed.
What Forever changes, and what it does not
World of Warcraft Forever launches on November 4, 2026, with beta from September 17. The old dungeons stay in the game. That means your run through the Defias basement is the same corridor with a different loot philosophy bolted on top.
| Forever change | What it does to this run |
|---|---|
| Unique boss items become Rare quality | The green boss drops you used to vendor now have a blue reason to be rolled on. |
| Melee, ranged and spell hit are combined | One hit stat serves the whole group, so old caster-only trinket logic dies. |
| Melee, ranged and spell crit are combined | Hybrid damage dealers stop being punished for holding a weapon and a spellbook. |
| Weapon skill gives less per item | Weapon skill daggers are no longer the automatic answer at this level. |
| Bonus healing carries one third as much damage | The healer’s wand and staff choices stop being a tax on questing. |
| Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses | Bosses now feed the Camping system, so profession players want the run too. |
| No dungeon finder announced | You form the group by hand, in chat, like a person from 2004. |
| Realms replaced by rulesets | You pick Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, with Hardcore after launch, and group only inside it. |
| Uncommon and Rare appearances go to all eligible looters | Nobody rolls against you purely to collect the skin. |
| Six new race and class combinations | Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin change what a leveling group can bring. |
Treat every number in this guide as the Classic baseline that Forever inherits. Blizzard has confirmed the itemization pass and the systems around the run. Blizzard has not confirmed a single respawn timer, health pool or drop rate for the old instances, and no amount of confident formatting turns a guess into data.
Entrance, coordinates and how to get there
The WoW Forever Deadmines entrance is not the instance portal. The building in Moonbrook drops you into a mine full of Defias and undead, and the portal sits at the bottom of that mine. People who say they are at the summoning point are usually standing in a barn, being stabbed.
| Point | Where |
|---|---|
| Defias Hideout door | Westfall, Moonbrook, roughly 42.4, 72.6 |
| Instance portal | Bottom of the mine, past the undead section |
| Dungeon exit | One way, opens in the Dagger Hills above the coast near the lighthouse |
| Gryan Stoutmantle | Sentinel Hill, Westfall, 56.2, 47.6 |
| Scout Riell | Sentinel Hill tower, Westfall |
| Wilder Thistlenettle | Dwarven District, Stormwind, 65.2, 21.6 |
| Shoni the Shilent | Dwarven District, Stormwind, 55.6, 12.6 |
| Gnoarn | Tinker Town, Ironforge, 69.6, 50.6 |
| Horde route | Zeppelin to Grom’gol, then swim north up the coast to Westfall |
Horde players get no quests here at all. You get the loot, the walk and the chance to explain to a level 60 Alliance player why you are in Westfall.
Level range and group size
The WoW Forever Deadmines level range is 18 to 23 for a five player group. Seventeen works if the tank knows what threat is. Fifteen works only if somebody much higher is dragging you through it, which Forever’s Legacy System quietly encourages by paying you for leveling alts.
- Minimum entry level is 10, and entering at 10 is a decision, not a strategy.
- Comfortable clear sits at level 20 with five players and one healer.
- Two player clears are possible in the high twenties with a healer and a tank.
- Solo clears start working in the thirties depending on class and patience.
- A full clear with quests takes 60 to 90 minutes for a first time group.
Best comps for the run
Among WoW Forever leveling dungeons this one punishes exactly two things: uncontrolled adds and a tank without a taunt. Build the group around solving those, then argue about damage meters that do not exist yet.
| Role | Best picks | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Warrior, Protection Paladin, Feral Druid | Warrior has Sunder Armor threat, the Forever Paladin gains Consecration baseline at level 20 and a taunt through Seal of Fury. |
| Healer | Priest, Druid, Paladin, Shaman | Power Word: Fortitude on a level 19 group is worth a party member. |
| Control damage | Mage, Rogue | Polymorph and Sap are the only reason the Foundry is survivable. |
| Sustained damage | Warlock, Hunter, Warrior | Pets and a second body absorb the patrols that arrive after every boss. |
| Emergency stun | Paladin, Rogue | Hammer of Justice interrupts the goblin golem cast, which is the whole fight. |
New Forever combinations change the math slightly. A Dwarf Shaman brings totems to an Alliance group for the first time, and an Undead Paladin brings Cannibalize that now restores mana, which matters when the healer is out of water two pulls into the Foundry.
Route, in order
The fastest WoW Forever Deadmines route is the linear one. The instance is a tube with a ship at the end, and every attempt to be clever with it ends at the spirit healer, which is outside, up a long hill.
- Clear the pre-instance mine, kill Foreman Thistlenettle and farm four Miners’ Union Cards before zoning in.
- Zone in and clear the first tunnels of non-elite miners at your own pace.
- Pull the two Defias Watchman guards separately, then kill Rhahk’Zor.
- Turn left at the fork and check the side tunnel for Miner Johnson, who is up roughly once every few resets.
- Kill the patrol that arrives behind you after the boss, because it always arrives.
- Clear every Goblin Woodcarver in the Mast Room before touching Sneed’s Shredder.
- Kill the Shredder, then kill Sneed when he climbs out, and loot the Gnoam Sprecklesprocket.
- Enter the Goblin Foundry, hug the left wall, and pull down the ramp in small groups.
- Control the engineer next to Gilnid, then kill Gilnid.
- Take the side alcove and loot the Defias Gunpowder before the locked door.
- Open the door with a lockpick, a skeleton key, or the cannon, then brace for the patrol.
- Stop at the end of the walkway, kill the two stealthed guards, then fight Mr. Smite.
- Board the ship, clear upward, and control the caster next to Captain Greenskin.
- Kill Edwin VanCleef in the top cabin and loot the head plus An Unsent Letter.
- Jump off the far side of the ship, kill Cookie, and walk out through the exit tunnel.
Trash abilities that actually matter
Three mob types cause almost every wipe in here. Everything else is a health bar with a bandana.
| Mob | Ability | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Goblin Engineer | Summon Remote-Controlled Golem | Stun the cast or control the goblin, then kill the summoner first. |
| Goblin Craftsman | Pack density in the Foundry | Pull down the ramp, never into the open floor. |
| Defias Squallshaper | Frost Nova | Stack on the tank so nobody is frozen at range alone. |
| Defias Blackguard | Stealth until the boss pulls | Assume two are present at Mr. Smite and at VanCleef. |
| Defias Pirate | Melee pressure on the ship | Kill the non-elite Defias Companion first. |
| Defias Miner | Numbers, not damage | Thin them out before pulling Miner Johnson. |
The cannon is not a shortcut. Firing it blows the locked door open and spawns an elite patrol that walks straight into whoever is standing closest, usually the healer, who was drinking. Fire it with the group stacked behind the tank, or pick the lock and skip the noise entirely.
Boss abilities, one by one
All WoW Forever Deadmines bosses below use the Classic ability set that Blizzard says it is preserving. Forever adds new tools to your side of the fight, not to theirs, at least until the beta says otherwise.
Rhahk’Zor
An ogre with a hammer and two archers. Pull the Defias Watchman pair first, then tank the ogre in place. His only trick is Rhahk’Zor Slam, and the tank simply has to be topped up when it lands.
Miner Johnson, rare
Optional, skippable, and worth two minutes of checking. Pierce Armor shreds the tank’s mitigation, so the healer spends the fight on one target. Clear the miners around him first or you will fight nine things at once.
Sneed’s Shredder and Sneed
Two fights in one health bar. The machine uses Terrify and Distracting Pain, which is why the room gets cleared first: a feared player runs into whatever you left alive. When the Shredder dies, Sneed climbs out and uses Disarm, so give the tank a few seconds before committing.
Gilnid
The Foundry boss is easier than the room in front of him. He casts Molten Metal, which is survivable, and he stands next to a Goblin Engineer, which is not. Control the engineer before the pull.
Mr. Smite
The only encounter in the instance with a real script. Two stealthed Defias Blackguard join automatically. At 66 percent and 33 percent he casts Smite Stomp, stunning everyone for roughly ten seconds while he changes weapons at his chest. Kill the adds before the first stomp, and have the tank at full health before the second, because Smite Slam plus Thrash ends undergeared tanks during the stun.
Captain Greenskin
An add fight with a boss attached. Control the Defias Squallshaper, kill the non-elite companion, then the pirate, then the captain. He uses Cleave and Poisoned Harpoon, so face him away from the group and dispel the poison if anyone can.
Edwin VanCleef
WoW Forever VanCleef is the same knife fight he has always been. Two stealthed Blackguards break out on the pull, and at 50 percent he calls two more. He dual wields and uses Thrash, which means burst damage on a single target, usually your tank, occasionally your mage. Control one add, focus the other, and keep the healer’s mana for the second wave.
Cookie
A murloc with a cooking pot and no dignity. He uses Acid Splash and heals himself with Cookie’s Cooking, so interrupt it or the fight lasts forever. The dangerous part is the jump off the ship, not the murloc.
Loot table
Under Forever’s itemization pass, WoW Forever Deadmines loot should read blue where it used to read green on unique boss drops. The item list itself is the Classic list until the beta database says otherwise, and the memorable pieces were explicitly kept.
| Boss | Item | Slot |
|---|---|---|
| Rhahk’Zor | Rhahk’Zor’s Hammer | Two-hand mace |
| Rhahk’Zor | Rockslicer | Two-hand axe |
| Miner Johnson | Gold-plated Buckler | Shield |
| Miner Johnson | Miner’s Cape | Back |
| Sneed | Taskmaster Axe | Two-hand axe |
| Sneed | Gold-flecked Gloves | Cloth hands |
| Sneed | Buzzer Blade | Dagger |
| Sneed | Buzz Saw | One-hand sword |
| Gilnid | Smelting Pants | Leather legs |
| Gilnid | Lavishly Jeweled Ring | Finger |
| Mr. Smite | Smite’s Mighty Hammer | Two-hand mace |
| Mr. Smite | Smite’s Reaver | One-hand axe |
| Mr. Smite | Thief’s Blade | One-hand sword |
| Captain Greenskin | Emberstone Staff | Staff |
| Captain Greenskin | Impaling Harpoon | Polearm |
| Captain Greenskin | Blackened Defias Belt | Leather waist |
| Edwin VanCleef | Cruel Barb | One-hand sword |
| Edwin VanCleef | Blackened Defias Armor | Leather chest |
| Edwin VanCleef | Cape of the Brotherhood | Back |
| Edwin VanCleef | Corsair’s Overshirt | Cloth chest |
| Cookie | Cookie’s Tenderizer | One-hand mace |
| Cookie | Cookie’s Stirring Rod | Wand |
The trash drops matter more than new players expect. Three quarters of the Defias Leather set comes off ordinary Defias, and the set exists to make one rogue or druid very happy and everyone else mildly resentful.
- Blackened Defias Leggings drop from trash and bind on equip.
- Blackened Defias Gloves drop from trash and bind on equip.
- Blackened Defias Boots drop from trash and bind on equip.
- The belt comes from Captain Greenskin and the chest comes from VanCleef.
- Red Silk Bandana drops from any Defias and is a quest item, not vendor trash.
Quests
Every one of the WoW Forever Deadmines quests is Alliance only, and two of them are finished before you ever enter the instance. Pick them all up first, because walking back to Stormwind for a turn-in you could have grabbed is its own punishment.
| Quest | Giver | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Collecting Memories | Wilder Thistlenettle, Stormwind | Four Miners’ Union Cards from undead outside the portal |
| Oh Brother. . . | Wilder Thistlenettle, Stormwind | Kill Foreman Thistlenettle outside the portal, reward Miner’s Revenge |
| Underground Assault | Shoni the Shilent, Stormwind | Loot the Gnoam Sprecklesprocket from Sneed’s Shredder |
| The Defias Brotherhood | Gryan Stoutmantle, Sentinel Hill | Kill VanCleef, take his head, choose a Westfall blue |
| Red Silk Bandanas | Scout Riell, Sentinel Hill | Ten Red Silk Bandanas from any Defias |
| The Unsent Letter | Drops from VanCleef | Deliver the letter to Baros Alexston in Stormwind |
| The Test of Righteousness | Paladin only, Jordan Stilwell | Requires Goblin Woodcarver kills inside the instance |
An Unsent Letter reportedly drops only on your first VanCleef kill. Abandon the quest and the Lescovar chain behind it may close for that character, which is a memorable way to learn about soulbound quest starters.
Lore, briefly
The mines were the largest gold operation in human lands before the First War, then abandoned when the Horde burned Stormwind. The Stonemasons rebuilt the city, were not paid, and became the Defias Brotherhood under Edwin VanCleef, who was once the guild’s master and is still, technically, an unpaid contractor with a grievance.
What they are building at the bottom of the mine is a juggernaut, financed by goblin labour and Westfall’s misery. Forever sits after the Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core, so this is early in the timeline: the Brotherhood is still a labour dispute with cannons, not yet a footnote.
The letter on VanCleef’s corpse is the point of the whole dungeon. He writes to the city architect, not to a rival warlord, and Baros Alexston reads it and cannot quite disagree with him. You killed a man over unpaid invoices and looted his cloak.
Mistakes that end runs
- Nobody watches behind the group after a boss, and the patrol arrives during the loot roll.
- The group pulls into the open Foundry floor instead of holding the ramp.
- The engineer finishes his golem cast because nobody had a stun ready.
- The Mast Room is only half cleared and the Shredder’s fear finds the rest.
- Mr. Smite reaches 66 percent with his two guards still alive.
- The healer is out of mana when VanCleef calls his second pair of adds.
- Someone jumps down to Cookie early and lands in the elites on the bottom deck.
- The group hearths out before looting the head and the letter from VanCleef.
Item and ability links above point at the Classic database, because that is the data that exists today and Forever has not shipped. When the beta opens on September 17 the numbers may shift. The corridor, the cannon and the murloc will not.
