WoW Forever Deadwind Pass Leveling Guide: Grind 55 to 60
Deadwind Pass leveling is a grind, not a quest run. Deadwind Pass has zero quests, zero hubs, zero flight masters and zero breadcrumbs. You come at 55, kill ogres in The Vice until 58, move to the undead ruins under Karazhan until 60, bank the Runecloth and leave.
That is the entire WoW Forever Deadwind Pass experience. The one drop worth a real detour is Formula: Enchant Bracer – Superior Strength, and it falls from exactly one mob in the game. Everything below explains how to get in, where to stand and when to stop suffering.
How to Get In: Flights, Roads, Coordinates
No zone in the pass has a flight point, so you land next door and ride. There are only two sane WoW Forever flight paths for this, one per faction, and both end with a short walk along the main road.
| Faction | Flight master | Landing spot | Route into the pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Felicia Maline | Darkshire, Duskwood (about 77, 44) | Follow the road east out of Darkshire. |
| Horde | Breyk | Stonard, Swamp of Sorrows (about 46, 54) | Follow the road west out of Stonard. |
- The road itself is safe even for lowbies, because the ogres and undead sit well away from it.
- Horde coming from Stranglethorn can walk north through Duskwood, which means riding past Darkshire guards who hate you personally.
- The Vice sits at roughly 52, 62 and is the first real camp south of the road.
- The Spirit Healer is at roughly 40, 74, so your corpse runs to the Karazhan ruins stay short.
- Ariden’s Camp in the north is an abandoned tent with no NPC and no reason to visit.
Quests, Hubs and Breadcrumbs: The Short Version
Anyone who expected wow classic plus to fill every empty map corner will be disappointed here. The original zone data Forever builds on contains no quests whatsoever, and Blizzard has not listed this zone among the revamps. No NPC in the pass gives work, no neighbouring hub sends you in, and nothing unlocks anything.
- Pick up nothing, because there is nothing to pick up.
- Turn in nothing, because nobody here can read.
- Skip nothing, because there are no chains to skip.
- Do your quest turn ins in the zones around the pass first, then come here to grind the gap.
Elite and group quests do not exist in the pass either. Every mob listed below is a normal non elite, which is the only mercy this zone offers.
Level Range: When to Come, When to Leave
This world of warcraft forever leveling guide treats the pass as a filler grind between quest zones. It works because the mobs are squishy, packed and ignored by almost everyone. It fails the moment you forget that grinding is slower than questing when quests exist.
| Your level | Target | Mobs and levels | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55 to 56 | The Vice ogre camp | Deadwind Brute 55 to 56, Deadwind Ogre Mage 55 to 57, Sky Shadow 55 to 56 | Low armor, low health, fast kills. |
| 56 to 58 | The Vice, deeper camp | Deadwind Mauler 56 to 57, Deadwind Warlock 57 to 58 | Same camp, better XP, the recipe drop. |
| 58 to 60 | Ruined town under Karazhan | Restless Shade 58 to 60, Unliving Resident 59 to 60 | Dense packs, cellars, steady cloth. |
| 60 | Leave | Nothing here scales past you | Your time is now worth more elsewhere. |
Arrive at 55 only if your quest logs in neighbouring zones are empty. Arriving earlier just means dying to casters with better aim than your healer.
Blizzard has not announced any Deadwind Pass changes for Forever. Every level, spawn and drop in this guide comes from the Classic data Forever is built on. Check it against the world of warcraft forever beta starting September 17, because a single patch can drop a quest hub into Ariden’s Camp and turn this page into a historical document.
Optimal Grind Route
Treat the zone as a two stop loop for Deadwind Pass leveling. The WoW Forever 55-60 leveling path here is linear, boring and effective, which describes most of vanilla anyway.
- Enter from the main road and head south to The Vice ogre camp.
- Clear the outer Deadwind Brute and Deadwind Ogre Mage spawns in a circle until level 56.
- Push into the deeper camp for Deadwind Mauler and Deadwind Warlock packs until level 58.
- Kill every Deadwind Warlock you see, because the recipe only drops from them.
- Ride south to the ruined town at the foot of Karazhan once you hit 58.
- Clear Restless Shade and Unliving Resident spawns above ground, then drop into the cellars.
- Pick the cellar that feels more like a cave if you want spaced pulls, or the packed one if your gear can handle it.
- Hearth out at 60 and never speak of this again.
Two cellar entrances sit in the ruined houses, and each leads to its own cave system. They share mobs but do not connect, so pick one and commit.
Best Drops and Farm Spots
No quest rewards exist, so loot is your only reward. The WoW Forever runecloth farm here is steady because both ogres and undead drop Runecloth, and almost nobody else is camping the spawns.
| Drop | Source | Why keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Runecloth | All humanoid ogres and the undead in the ruins | Tailoring, bandages, faction cloth turn ins, auction money. |
| Formula: Enchant Bracer – Superior Strength | Deadwind Warlock only | +9 Strength on bracers, needs Enchanting 295, sells to every melee who can count. |
| Raw silver and grey items | Ogres | Vendor fodder that quietly pays for repairs. |
| Random green items | Everything | Disenchant instead of vending, dust usually sells higher. |
For WoW Forever gold farming at level 60, the ogre camp stays better than the ruins for pure speed. The undead take longer to kill but pack tighter in the cellars, so AoE classes prefer them.
- Herbalism and Mining are useless here, because the pass has no herbs and no ore.
- Forever lets you craft campsites almost anywhere, so dropping one at the edge of The Vice turns a solo grind into a buffed one.
- Exploring every subzone feeds the Forever Legacy system, which gives account perks for your next victim character.
Rares, Elites and PvP
The pass has no named rare spawns in its inherited data and no elite mobs outside Karazhan, which you cannot enter. If a rare shows up in beta, it was added for Forever and nobody has a spawn timer yet.
The zone is contested, so the real elite is the rogue who followed you from Stonard. Farm the ogre camp with your back to a wall and your potions on a hotkey.
Lore: Why This Place Is Dead
Karazhan, the Ivory Tower, belonged to Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal. His corrupted magic killed the trees, poisoned the wind and gave the pass its name. The ogres who now claim the canyon reportedly answer to a master inside the tower, which explains their confidence.
WoW Forever Karazhan content has not been announced, and the tower gate stays sealed. The crypt behind it at Morgan’s Plot is also closed, so the flooded chambers full of upside down corpses remain a screenshot rumor instead of a dungeon.
Where to Go Next
Leaving is the best part of this zone. Pick a destination from the WoW Forever leveling zones list based on your level, not your nostalgia.
| Destination | Level | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Blasted Lands | 55 to 58 | South of the Swamp, still full of quests if you skipped it. |
| Burning Steppes | 55 to 59 | Dense quest content and a road to Blackrock Mountain. |
| Mount Hyjal | 60 | Forever’s endgame leveling zone, set after Archimonde’s defeat. |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55 to 60 | New Forever dungeon for groups. |
| Shaper’s Terrace | 58 to 60 | New Forever dungeon for the final push. |
