WoW Forever Durotar Leveling Guide: Route, Quests and Rares
This WoW Forever Durotar leveling guide fits in one sentence. Clear the Valley of Trials by level 6, farm Sen’jin Village and Razor Hill to 10, burn the northern chains to 12, then cross the Southfury bridge west into The Barrens and stop pretending Durotar still has anything to teach you.
Forever keeps the 2004 skeleton of this zone: same hubs, same breadcrumbs, same Burning Blade cultists who never learn. World of Warcraft Forever Durotar adds new starting-zone quests and NPCs on top, but no level scaling, so old routing still wins. Beta opens September 17, launch lands November 4, and the first thousand orcs will be fighting you for the same ten boars.
Durotar at a glance
| What | Answer |
|---|---|
| Level range | 1 to 12, leave at 11 or 12 |
| Starting area | Valley of Trials, 1 to 6 |
| Main hubs | Sen’jin Village and Razor Hill |
| Where to set hearth | Razor Hill inn |
| Flight path in zone | None, nearest is Orgrimmar |
| Exit | Southfury bridge west to Far Watch Post and the Crossroads |
| Group content | Echo Isles and Skull Rock, both soloable with patience |
How to get in: travel, flight paths and coordinates
Orcs and trolls spawn in the Valley of Trials, so they get in by existing. Everyone else pays in walking time. Durotar has no flight master of its own, and Razor Hill will not give you one no matter how politely you stand next to the inn.
| Route | NPC | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Hearthstone and inn in Razor Hill | Innkeeper Grosk | Durotar 51.5, 41.6 |
| Wind Rider Master in Orgrimmar | Doras | Orgrimmar 45.1, 63.9 |
| Zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades | Frezza | Durotar 50.8, 13.5 |
| Zeppelin to Grom’gol | Snurk Bucksquick | Durotar 50.7, 12.9 |
| Barrens arrival point | Kargal Battlescar | The Barrens 62.3, 19.4 |
- Undead players take the zeppelin from Tirisfal Glades and land at the tower east of the Orgrimmar gate.
- Tauren players walk from the Crossroads east along the road and cross the Southfury bridge into western Durotar.
- Tagging the Orgrimmar flight path on the first city visit saves the return trip for the Crossroads later.
- The zeppelin tower stands a short walk south of Skull Rock, so anyone arriving by air starts next to the zone’s worst cave.
Valley of Trials route, levels 1 to 6
Kill everything on the way to the next objective. WoW Forever orc leveling in this valley is a corridor, and every detour is a gift to the player who spawned thirty seconds after you.
- Accept Your Place In The World from Kaltunk and turn it in to Gornek inside the Den at 42.1, 68.3.
- Take Cutting Teeth and kill Mottled Boars right outside the Den.
- Grab Vile Familiars from Zureetha Fargaze and Lazy Peons from Foreman Thazz’ril at 44.6, 68.7.
- Return Cutting Teeth to unlock Sting of the Scorpid and Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise from Galgar.
- Pick up Sarkoth from Hana’zua at 40.6, 62.6 and kill Sarkoth at 40.5, 66.8.
- Loot Cactus Apples and Scorpid Worker Tails in the same southern loop, then deliver Sarkoth to Gornek.
- Wake peons with the blackjack, then clear familiars on the northern slope near 44.2, 55.5.
- Enter the cave at the north end, take Thazz’ril’s Pick at 43.7, 53.8 and kill Yarrog Baneshadow for Burning Blade Medallion.
- Turn everything in, accept Report to Sen’jin Village and take A Peon’s Burden from Ukor at the valley exit.
The WoW Forever troll starting zone follows the 2004 layout, so trolls share this valley instead of starting on the Echo Isles like in later versions. Warlocks also run Vile Familiars and Vile Familiars for Ruzan, and every class gets a letter from Gornek pointing to its trainer.
Sen’jin Village hub, levels 5 to 8
Hand Report to Sen’jin Village to Master Gadrin at 56.0, 74.7 and empty his quest log into yours. Sen’jin has no inn, so do not bind here unless you enjoy long runs.
| Quest | Giver | Level | Where to do it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thwarting Kolkar Aggression | Lar Prowltusk | 8 | Kolkar Crag, three plans near 47.7, 77.3 |
| Practical Prey | Vel’rin Fang | 8 | Durotar Tigers south near 64, 95 |
| A Solvent Spirit | Master Vornal | 7 | Makrura and crawlers on the east coast |
| Minshina’s Skull | Master Gadrin | 9 | Echo Isles, 67.5, 87.8 |
| Zalazane | Master Gadrin | 10 | Echo Isles, save for level 9 |
| Report to Orgnil | Master Gadrin | 7 | Walk it to Razor Hill |
Do Kolkar Crag and the coast now. Leave both Echo Isles quests until level 9, because hexed trolls in packs of three are how fresh orcs learn about corpse runs.
Razor Hill hub, levels 7 to 10
Razor Hill is the real capital of this zone. Turn in A Peon’s Burden to Innkeeper Grosk, set your hearth, then collect from every orc with a yellow mark.
| Quest | Giver | Coordinates | Objective |
|---|---|---|---|
| Report to Orgnil | Orgnil Soulscar | 52.2, 43.1 | Turn in, unlocks the Dark Storms chain |
| Vanquish the Betrayers | Gar’Thok | 52.0, 43.5 | Tiragarde Keep sailors, marines, lieutenant |
| Encroachment | Gar’Thok | 52.0, 43.5 | Four kinds of Razormane west of town |
| Break a Few Eggs | Cook Torka | 51.1, 42.5 | Three Taillasher Eggs on the southeast coast |
| Carry Your Weight | Furl Scornbrow | 49.9, 40.4 | Canvas Scraps from Kolkar and Kul Tiras mobs |
Dark Storms does not appear until you hand in Report to Orgnil, and Report to Orgnil does not exist until Master Gadrin gives it. Skip Sen’jin and the whole northern Burning Blade chain, including Margoz and Skull Rock, stays locked while you stand in Razor Hill wondering why Orgnil ignores you.
Encroachment camps start right outside town and run west to 38.9, 53.5. Battleguards hit harder than the level suggests, so pull them one at a time or enjoy the spirit healer.
Tiragarde Keep and the Admiral’s Orders
The keep at 59, 58 serves Vanquish the Betrayers. Kill Lieutenant Benedict, take his key, and open the chest nearby at 59.3, 57.6 for an envelope that starts The Admiral’s Orders.
- Gar’Thok follows up with From The Wreckage…. and sends you under water for Gnomish Toolboxes near 62.4, 53.5.
- Handing in the envelope unlocks The Admiral’s Orders for Nazgrel in Thrall’s chamber at Orgrimmar 32.3, 35.8.
- Carry the second Admiral’s Orders until the Orgrimmar trip for Kor’ghan instead of running there twice.
- The rare Watch Commander Zalaphil patrols the keep and drops Canvas Scraps for Carry Your Weight.
Echo Isles and Zalazane
Swim or wade to the isles at level 9 or 10. Minshina’s Skull sits in the circle of power at 67.5, 87.8, right beside Zalazane, so both quests end in one pull if you are brave or two corpse runs if you are honest.
Zalazane also asks for Hexed Trolls and Voodoo Trolls, which respawn fast. Group with the next orc in sight, share tags, and leave together before a third one pulls the hut.
Northern Durotar and Skull Rock, levels 10 to 12
This is the part of Durotar where the zone stops being polite. Hearth to Razor Hill, then work north in one loop.
- Accept Dark Storms from Orgnil and kill Fizzle Darkstorm at Thunder Ridge, 42.1, 26.7.
- Take Winds in the Desert from Rezlak at 46.4, 22.9 and loot supply sacks around 49.5, 28.7.
- Return for Securing the Lines and clear Dustwind harpies in Drygulch Ravine near 53, 24.
- Grab Need for a Cure from Rhinag at 41.5, 18.6 on the northwest border.
- Kill Venomtail Scorpids near 39.6, 20.3 for Finding the Antidote, a quest you can only accept from Kor’ghan in Orgrimmar at 47.2, 53.6.
- Turn in Dark Storms, take Margoz and deliver it to Margoz at 56.4, 20.0.
- Clear Skull Rock at 52, 9 for Skull Rock and keep any Lieutenant’s Insignia that drops.
- Take Neeru Fireblade to Neeru Fireblade in the Cleft of Shadow at Orgrimmar 49.5, 50.6.
- Visit Thrall for Hidden Enemies, then Hidden Enemies sends you straight back to Neeru.
Gazz’uz lurks deep in Skull Rock at level 14 and drops the Eye of Burning Shadow that starts Burning Shadows. Kill him at 12 with a friend or at 14 with regret.
Breadcrumbs: what unlocks what
Elite and group quests: do them or skip them
Durotar has no elite quest objectives, only rooms that behave like one.
| Content | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Zalazane | Do at 10 | Dense packs, fast respawns, one fight for two quests |
| Skull Rock | Do at 11 | Cave pulls and collars, best weapon rewards in zone |
| Burning Shadows | Do if grouped | Gazz’uz is level 14 and not interested in your feelings |
| The Demon Seed | Do in the Barrens | Timed stone run from Ak’Zeloth to the Altar of Fire |
| Hidden Enemies | Postpone | Needs Bazzalan and Jergosh the Invoker inside Ragefire Chasm |
| Captain Flat Tusk | Kill if spotted | Rare elite at level 11, pull only at full health |
What to skip
- Lost But Not Forgotten from Misha Tor’kren depends on a low amulet drop from crocolisks and eats more time than its cloak deserves.
- The Admiral’s Orders is pure walking, so hand it in only while you are already in Orgrimmar.
- A Solvent Spirit is worth doing only when you are already on that coast for eggs or tigers.
- Break a Few Eggs pays in food, so do it on the way and never as a separate trip.
- Hidden Enemies waits for a Ragefire Chasm group at 15 or 16 rather than a solo attempt.
Best quest rewards worth keeping
Forever reworks item stats, so pick by slot and armor type, not by nostalgia. WoW Forever quest rewards below are the ones that fill empty slots or last past level 15.
| Reward | From quest | Why keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Handmade Leather Bag | Carry Your Weight | A bag at level 7 is worth more than any green |
| Steady Bastard Sword, Jagged Dagger, Stinging Mace | Skull Rock | Best weapon choice in the zone |
| Hickory Shortbow, Harpy Wing Clipper, Blemished Wooden Staff | Securing the Lines | Ranged and caster weapon upgrade |
| Light Scorpid Armor, Charging Buckler | Need for a Cure | Chest or shield for leather and shield users |
| Veiled Grips, Lightweight Boots | Zalazane | Hands or feet at level 10 |
| Tiger Hide Boots | Dark Storms | Feet slot at 12 |
| Seasoned Fighter’s Cloak, Heavy Cord Bracers | Thwarting Kolkar Aggression | Early cloak or wrists |
| Sandrunner Wristguards, Wide Metal Girdle, Dirt-trodden Boots | From The Wreckage…. | Filler for empty slots |
| Faintly Glowing Skull | Minshina’s Skull | The only reward, a consumable, take it anyway |
| Banshee Armor | The Demon Seed | Level 14 chest you finish in the Barrens |
| Axe of Orgrimmar, Kris of Orgrimmar, Staff of Orgrimmar, Hammer of Orgrimmar | Hidden Enemies | End of the chain, level 18 weapons |
Class quests that start in Durotar
| Class | Quest | Trainer |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Veteran Uzzek | Tarshaw Jaggedscar |
| Shaman | Call of Fire | Swart |
| Hunter | Taming the Beast | Thotar |
| Rogue | Therzok | Kaplak |
| Priest | Garments of Spirituality | Tai’jin |
| Mage | Ju-Ju Heaps | Un’Thuwa |
| Warlock | Gan’rul’s Summons | Ophek |
Shamans continue the totem line with Telf Joolam at 38.5, 59.0, who hands out Call of Fire and Call of Fire. The Shrine of Eternal Flame is up a hill that has killed more shamans than the Burning Blade.
Rares and farm spots
WoW Forever rares in this zone drop vendor trash and bragging rights. Kill them for XP when they spawn on your path, never camp them.
| Rare | Level | Coordinates | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warlord Kolkanis | 9 | 47.9, 77.4 | Kolkar Crag, next to the attack plans |
| Watch Commander Zalaphil | 9 | 59.2, 58.5 | Tiragarde Keep, drops Canvas Scraps |
| Geolord Mottle | 9 | 43.2, 39.3 or 47.2, 49.9 | Razormane camps |
| Death Flayer | 11 | 36.5, 49.7 | Drops Venomtail Poison Sacs |
| Captain Flat Tusk | 11 rare elite | 42.6, 39.0 or 38.7, 54.0 | Razormane battleguard camps |
| Felweaver Scornn | 11 rare elite | 52.8, 9.0 | Skull Rock |
| Sand Shark | 14 elite | East coast water, 64.6, 7.3 to 65.2, 37.3 | Swim elsewhere |
- Dire Mottled Boars around Razor Hill near 51.2, 44.9 are the densest skinning and cooking spawn in the zone.
- Kul Tiras Sailors and Marines at Tiragarde Keep drop Linen Cloth and Canvas Scraps at the same time.
- Burning Blade cultists in Skull Rock and Dustwind Cave are the only humanoid farm north of Razor Hill.
- Venomtail Scorpids near 39.6, 20.3 cover the antidote quest and give fast mob density for levels 9 and 10.
When to leave and where to go next
Leave at 11 with Skull Rock done or at 12 with everything done. The WoW Forever Horde leveling route then goes to The Barrens, because the Crossroads is where the next thirty quests live.
- Take Conscript of the Horde from Takrin Pathseeker at Razor Hill 50.8, 43.6.
- Follow the western road over the Southfury bridge to Kargal Battlescar at Far Watch Post and accept Crossroads Conscription.
- Talk to Ak’Zeloth at The Barrens 62.3, 20.1 for Ak’Zeloth and The Demon Seed.
- Deliver the conscription to Sergra Darkthorn at the Crossroads and tag the flight path.
- Return to Orgrimmar for Ragefire Chasm at 13 to 16 once enough of the Horde is awake.
What WoW Forever changes on this road
Blizzard confirmed new NPCs, quests, recipes and stories in every original starting zone, and named the Valley of Trials on stage. Everything above is the backbone those additions attach to, and it does not move.
- Forever has no level scaling and no flying, so outleveling a hub still means grey quests and wasted time.
- Orc Mage and Troll Warlock are new combinations, and both start in this valley alongside every other orc and troll.
- Legacy progression is account wide, so your second Durotar run should be faster than the first.
- Camping lets players build a fire in the open world and share buffs, and Razor Hill will be full of them.
- Forever is realmless, so starting zone crowding is a feature and not a server problem.
- A new 15 versus 15 battleground on Darkspear Island joins the PvP rotation.
Anyone reading a WoW Classic Plus leveling guide from before BlizzCon should know that Plus and Forever are the same product. The WoW Forever beta leveling window runs from September 17 to October 21, and new Forever quest IDs will show up in the database during it.
Durotar lore for people who read quest text
Thrall named Durotar after his father Durotan and built Orgrimmar on the northern cliffs. The land is poor, dry and hostile, which is exactly why the orcs took it.
Forever sets its clock in the first year of the original game, after Warcraft III and before Molten Core. The Burning Blade still hides in Skull Rock and Ragefire Chasm, the Kul Tiras survivors at Tiragarde Keep still blame the Horde for Daelin Proudmoore, and Zalazane still hexes Darkspear trolls on the Echo Isles. Blizzard calls this continuity a time bubble, so none of the later Cataclysm rewrites apply.
The WoW Forever starting zones keep their original tone, and Durotar’s is simple. The Horde has a home, it is surrounded by traitors, and a level 5 recruit is expected to fix it for a cloak.
What level should I leave Durotar in WoW Forever?
Leave at level 11 or 12 after Skull Rock, then cross the Southfury bridge into the Barrens toward the Crossroads.
Is there a flight path in Durotar?
No, Durotar has no flight master; the nearest one is Doras in Orgrimmar, so bind your hearthstone at Razor Hill.
Can I solo Zalazane and Skull Rock?
Yes, both are soloable at level 10 or 11, but grouping with nearby players saves corpse runs and respawn fights.
Which Durotar quests should I skip?
Skip Lost But Not Forgotten, delay Hidden Enemies until Ragefire Chasm, and only deliver the Admiral’s Orders during city visits.
Does WoW Forever change the Durotar quest route?
Forever adds new starting zone quests and NPCs, but the original hubs, breadcrumbs and chain order remain the fastest route.
