WoW Forever Owl Hunter Pet Guide: Best Tames, Skills and Mine!
The best WoW Forever owl pet is a Winterspring Screecher tamed at level 57 to 59. It shows up already knowing Claw 8, Dive 3 and Screech 4, so every rank grind below it becomes somebody else’s problem. Owls deal 1.07 damage with 1.00 health and armor, eat meat only, and the Forever client files them under Bird of Prey with a brand new weapon-stealing disarm, Mine!
Levelling in the beta right now? The Strigid Owl in Teldrassil is tameable from level 5, comfortably under the level 20 beta cap. Felwood takes over at 48, Winterspring finishes the job at 54. Among WoW Forever hunter pets, the owl is the glass cannon with wings: big claws, thin skin, and a habit of flapping in your face.
Where to Tame an Owl in Forever
Every spawn below comes from the current Classic data set, which is the map Forever is built on. The one WoW Forever owl taming location that matters at max level is southern Winterspring. Everything else is a stepping stone or a vanity run.
| Owl | Level | Zone | Coordinates | Knows when tamed | Look |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strigid Owl | 5 to 6 | Teldrassil | 63.0, 64.2 | Claw 1 | Grey |
| Strigid Screecher | 7 to 8 | Teldrassil | Not pinned | Nothing | Grey |
| Strigid Hunter | 8 to 9 | Teldrassil | 38.5, 46.2 | Claw 2 | Grey |
| Ironbeak Owl | 48 to 49 | Felwood | 46.5, 87.7 | Dive 2, Screech 3 | Grey |
| Ironbeak Hunter | 50 to 51 | Felwood | 45.0, 66.9 | Claw 7, Dive 3 | Grey |
| Ironbeak Screecher | 52 to 53 | Felwood | 56.7, 26.4 | Dive 3 | Grey |
| Olm the Wise | 52, rare | Felwood | 55.6, 23.3 or 45.0, 32.1 or 38.1, 72.4 | Claw 7, Dive 3 | White |
| Stormpike Owl | 53 to 54 | Alterac Valley | Not pinned | Nothing | White |
| Winterspring Owl | 54 to 56 | Winterspring | 66.4, 51.9 | Claw 7, Dive 3 | White |
| Winterspring Screecher | 57 to 59 | Winterspring | 63.0, 63.6 | Claw 8, Dive 3, Screech 4 | White |
Paste the coordinates into a waypoint addon as /way Felwood 55.6 23.3 and repeat for each spot. All owls swing at 2.0 speed, so the level you tame at is the only real choice you make.
Forever made taming less humiliating. Tame Beast still channels for 20 seconds and still drops your armor by 100%, but traps now go down in combat on a 30 second cooldown.
- Stable your current pet first, because an active pet blocks the tame.
- Drop Freezing Trap between you and the owl before you pull.
- Pull with a ranged shot and let the owl walk into the ice.
- Start Tame Beast while the owl is frozen and do not touch any other button.
- Feed the owl meat the second it becomes yours, or watch it leave.
Owl Family Stats and Where They Rank
| Stat | Modifier | Bracket |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | 1.07 | High |
| Health | 1.00 | Medium |
| Armor | 1.00 | Low |
| Attack speed | 2.0 on every owl | Fixed |
| Diet | Meat | Single food type |
| Role | Offense | Deals damage, takes damage |
Is the owl the WoW Forever best hunter pet? For raw damage it sits in the top bracket. For staying alive it sits near the bottom, and bears or turtles will outlast it in any fight where the boss looks at the pet twice.
The honest ranking: top tier for utility per training point, mid tier for solo levelling, bottom tier for anyone who likes pet tanking elites.
Owl Pet Skills and Where to Farm Each Rank
Classic rules still govern the WoW Forever pet abilities you learn from the wild: tame a beast that knows the rank, learn it, release it, then teach your owl through Beast Training. Trainer skills like Growl, Great Stamina and Natural Armor cost only training points.
| Skill | Pet level | TP cost | Best owl-route source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claw 1 | 1 | 1 | Strigid Owl |
| Claw 2 | 8 | 4 | Strigid Hunter |
| Claw 3 | 16 | 7 | Black Bear Patriarch |
| Claw 4 | 24 | 10 | Elder Ashenvale Bear |
| Claw 5 | 32 | 13 | Scorpashi Lasher |
| Claw 6 | 40 | 17 | Ironfur Bear |
| Claw 7 | 48 | 21 | Ironbeak Hunter |
| Claw 8 | 56 | 25 | Winterspring Screecher |
| Dive 1 | 30 | 15 | Young Mesa Buzzard |
| Dive 2 | 40 | 20 | Ironbeak Owl |
| Dive 3 | 50 | 25 | Ironbeak Hunter |
| Screech 1 | 8 | 10 | Greater Fleshripper |
| Screech 2 | 24 | 15 | Salt Flats Vulture or Dread Ripper |
| Screech 3 | 48 | 20 | Ironbeak Owl |
| Screech 4 | 56 | 25 | Winterspring Screecher |
Cower, the five resistances, Great Stamina and Natural Armor come from the pet trainer. Dive and Screech ranks from bats and carrion birds work on owls too, so any of those tames fills a gap.
Forever added its own layer on top, confirmed from the pet tab of a level 38 owl shown on stream.
| Forever change | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mine! | Grabs the target’s weapon for 20 to 24 damage and disarms it for 4 sec. 20 Focus, melee range, 1 min cooldown, seen at Rank 3. |
| Growl | Rank 4 at level 38 costs 15 Focus with a 5 sec cooldown, so pets now run on Focus. |
| Move To | New command that parks the owl on a chosen spot. |
| Assist | New stance that replaces Aggressive. |
| Eyes of the Beast | Pet control now lasts 2 min instead of 1. |
Screech did not appear in the pet tab of that level 38 Forever owl. It knew Claw 5, Dive 1, Growl 4 and Mine! 3, and nothing else active. Until beta data proves otherwise, build around Claw, Dive and Mine!, and treat every Screech rank below as Classic data waiting for a verdict.
Best Named Tames: Rares, Uniques and Looks
The WoW Forever white owl is the only look worth bragging about, and three creatures wear it. Olm the Wise is the earliest at level 52, Winterspring Owl is the reliable one at 54, and Stormpike Owl is the one Horde players steal from an Alliance base.
- Olm the Wise is a level 52 rare owl flagged to the Cenarion Circle, so nobody can attack or tame him until that faction is set to At War.
- Setting At War and killing or taming him costs no reputation, so untick the box afterwards and nobody will ever know.
- His three spawn points in Felwood rotate on a long timer, and players reported waits of many hours between sightings.
- His stats match a normal owl of the same level, so his only real value is a white owl two levels early.
- Stormpike Owl is an Alliance creature inside Alterac Valley, which means only Horde hunters can tame it.
- Black, brown and purple owl skins exist in the files but no creature uses them, so ignore anyone selling a purple owl route.
Every good WoW Forever taming guide warns that Alterac Valley itself is not on the confirmed Forever battleground list yet. The announced new battleground is Darkspear Islands, so the Stormpike Owl stays a maybe.
Raid or PvP: What the Owl Is Actually For
Raids want the owl for its debuff, PvP wants it for the disarm. WoW Forever Screech reduces melee attack power of every enemy in melee range of the owl, and in Classic it stacked with other attack power debuffs. The catch is the 1.00 low armor bracket, which turns boss cleave into a revive tax.
| Content | Why the owl | Why not |
|---|---|---|
| Raids | Screech debuff on heavy melee bosses, autocast Screech over Dive. | Dies to cleave, and Marksmanship Lone Wolf gives 20% damage with no pet out. |
| Dungeons | Solid damage and Dive to reposition fast. | Needs Mend Pet babysitting on trash packs. |
| PvP | Mine! disarms warriors, rogues and the new melee Survival hunters for 4 sec. | Paper armor makes it the first thing AoE deletes. |
| Levelling | Claw damage kills quest mobs quickly. | Bears and boars forgive mistakes, owls do not. |
Beast Mastery hunters get the most from it through Unleashed Fury, Ferocity and the new Focused Fire, plus Summon Hawk for a second set of talons. At level 60 you have 51 talent points, so pick pet or petless before spending a single one.
Feeding, Happiness and Loyalty
No WoW Forever hunter pet guide can skip food, because Forever kept the old happiness and loyalty system intact. The tame tooltip still promises a very unhappy, disloyal beast.
- Owls eat meat only, and Clam Meat does not count as meat.
- Food close to the pet’s level gives a better happiness result, according to the Forever Feed Pet tooltip.
- Dismissing the pet costs 50 happiness, so stop dismissing it out of spite.
- An unhappy pet deals 75% damage and bleeds loyalty.
- Loyalty climbs through six ranks from Rebellious to Best Friend by feeding and killing things together.
- Each loyalty rank adds training points, and a rank 6 pet at level 60 holds 300 of them.
- High level tames often start with negative training points until loyalty catches up.
- A pet at the lowest happiness and the lowest loyalty simply leaves you.
- Revive Pet brings the owl back with 15% health after a 10 sec cast, which is a lovely time to reflect on its armor.
Owl Lore in Azeroth
The Strigid owls of Teldrassil take their name from Strigidae, the real family of true owls, and they nest in the night elf world tree. Their Ironbeak cousins live in Felwood, a forest rotted by demonic corruption, which explains the attitude.
Winterspring even has a subzone called Owl Wing Thicket, and Olm the Wise answers to the Cenarion Circle, the druids trying to heal Kalimdor. A World of Warcraft Forever owl is therefore a sacred druid bird that you stuff with raw meat and throw at dragons.
Where is the best owl to tame in WoW Forever?
Winterspring Screecher, level 57 to 59, near 63.0 63.6 in Winterspring, knowing Claw 8, Dive 3 and Screech 4.
What does the owl ability Mine! do?
It grabs the target’s weapon for 20 to 24 damage and disarms for 4 seconds, 1 minute cooldown.
What food does a Forever owl eat?
Meat only. Food near the owl’s level works best, and Clam Meat does not count as meat for feeding.
How do I tame Olm the Wise?
Set Cenarion Circle to At War in the reputation pane, tame him in Felwood, then untick it. Reputation stays untouched.
Is an owl a good raid pet in Forever?
Screech brings an attack power debuff, but low armor punishes cleave, and Lone Wolf hunters often skip pets entirely.
