World of Warcraft Forever Skyborne: Everything About the Paid Elf Race
The World of Warcraft Forever Skyborne are a new elven race that your subscription does not cover. You pay $29.99, you start on a floating island at level 1, and you choose Horde or Alliance before you ever leave the character screen. Everything below is the fine print Blizzard put in four separate blog posts.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are they | Elves, also called shen’dorei, the hidden people |
| Cost | $29.99 Heroic Pack, $59.99 Epic Pack, $79.99 Collection |
| Starting zone | Zephras Isle, levels 1 to 12 |
| Faction | Locked at character creation, Alliance or Horde |
| Classes | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, plus Mage or Shaman |
| Launch | 4 November 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST |
| Beta | 17 September to 21 October 2026, level 30 cap |
Who the Skyborne Actually Are
Blizzard’s panel recap traces them to rebels who fled Eldre’Thalas after the War of the Ancients and found refuge in Skywall, where wind spirits anchored their island in the elemental plane. Eldre’Thalas is the place you currently farm for librams, better known as Dire Maul, and the cousins who stayed home are the Shen’dralar. So the new race is Highborne number four.
The elemental angle is not invented from nothing. Classic already sold air elementals as a plot device through Prince Thunderaan and the Thunderfury questline, and Zephras is built on the same shelf. The difference is that Thunderaan was free.
When you arrive, the civilisation is collapsing. The wind spirits are gone, the pylons holding the island together are failing, and three groups are fighting over what replaces the old pact: the Windshapers, the High Order, and the Al’Aketh. Two of those become your faction identity. The third is presumably the reason the quests have kill counts.
Classes and Faction Split
Skyborne are not neutral in the Pandaren sense. The faction choice happens at creation, it is permanent, and it decides your fifth class slot. These are the only WoW Forever race class combinations confirmed for the race so far.
| Class | High Order (Alliance) | Windshaper (Horde) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Yes | Yes |
| Hunter | Yes | Yes |
| Rogue | Yes | Yes |
| Druid | Yes | Yes |
| Mage | Yes | No |
| Shaman | No | Yes |
| Paladin, Priest, Warlock | No | No |
The justification is that Alliance Skyborne studied with the Kirin Tor while Horde Skyborne took the elemental road through the Earthen Ring. The practical result is that a Skyborne Mage and a Skyborne Shaman can never stand in the same raid.
Skyborne Racials
Three of the four Skyborne racials are shared. The fourth is the faction tax. Blizzard showed these in the BlizzCon build and flagged them as subject to change, which is how you should read every number here.
| Racial | Effect | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Glide downward through the air for 10 seconds | Both |
| Wind Blessed | Passive 1% melee, ranged and spellcasting haste | Both |
| Elemental Insight | Passive 5% increased damage to Elementals | Both |
| Read Ley Line | Activate a ley line for 100% increased health and mana regeneration | High Order |
| Skysight | Elemental blessing granting 10% run speed | Windshaper |
No Wowhead spell IDs exist for any of these yet, so nothing above is linked. Anyone handing you a Skyborne spell link this week invented it.
One percent haste, five percent damage to a mob type that barely exists at level 60, and a glide with no flying attached. This is the first race Blizzard has ever sold, and it is balanced like an apology.
Racial Changes to the Free Races
Existing racials are being reworked around the new ones, and some of the changes matter more than the race you are being sold.
- Tauren Cultivation now grows bonus herbs that anyone can gather without Herbalism.
- Orc Axe Specialization now grants critical strike chance instead of weapon skill.
- Gnome Expansive Mind now increases maximum resource rather than Intellect.
- Gnomes gain a new racial called Eureka that cuts cost and adds 10% damage or healing to the next three abilities.
- Humans keep Perception as stealth detection and gain Will to Survive as a stun break.
- Human Sword Specialization becomes a passive 2% spell and ability critical chance bonus while using swords.
Wowhead has confirmed its published list is incomplete, so treat the above as the visible part of the rework rather than the whole patch note.
Zephras Isle
The Zephras Isle starting zone covers levels 1 to 12 and is locked to Skyborne characters. It is a floating island of wooden docks, stone spires held by chains, and ships hanging in mist, and it is not counted among Forever’s three headline zones. A Human warrior still starts in Northshire and will never see it.
No quest list has been published, so any route guide currently in existence is fiction. After level 12 you are routed into the normal faction leveling flow, which eventually includes the Riverglades at 30 to 45 and new content around Maraudon, Razorfen Downs and the Shen’dralas area south of Desolace.
Druid Forms and Customization
The Skyborne druid forms are the actual selling point. Bear, Cat, Travel and Moonkin were shown on stage in sky-blue variants that Night Elves and Tauren do not get. No Tree of Life form appeared on any slide, and no official artwork has been released, only auditorium footage.
Customization was described as deep and vast, which in practice means skin tones beyond blue, multiple hairstyles and colours, several eye colours, and body markings. Blizzard has not published the option counts, so the character creator remains unverified until the beta client is datamined.
One detail nobody on stage addressed: Travel Form is a bird, and there is no flying in Forever.
Editions and What the Money Buys
The Skyborne Heroic Pack is the minimum entry fee. Everything above it is cosmetics and calendar access.
| Edition | Price | Adds |
|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | $29.99 | Race, Zephras Isle, name reservation, Cerulean Prideclaw mount, Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb, Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack, Shen’dorei Windwell toy, housing decor, one friend code |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | $59.99 | Beta access, 30 days game time, extra cosmetics, tabards, pets, three friend codes total |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | $79.99 | Warcraft III Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, figurine decor, available until 11 January 2027 |
The mount still requires you to buy riding skill in game. The housing decor only works in modern World of Warcraft, which needs Midnight, sold separately. That is the WoW Forever pre-purchase structure in one sentence: the cheap tier sells you a race, the expensive tiers sell you access to a calendar.
Dates That Matter
WoW Forever beta access comes with the Epic Pack and the Collection only, and it is capped at level 30. Zephras Isle fits entirely inside that cap, so beta testers will finish the starting zone weeks before anyone else.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 17 September 2026 | Beta opens, level 30 cap |
| 20 October 2026 | Invite-A-Friend codes start arriving by email |
| 21 October 2026 | Beta closes |
| 27 October to 3 November 2026 | Early name reservation, up to three characters |
| 4 November 2026 | Global launch at 3:00 p.m. PST |
| 4 to 11 November 2026 | Invite-A-Friend access window |
| 11 January 2027 | Warcraft Forever Collection leaves the shop |
The WoW Forever release date applies to everyone. The race behind it does not.
What You Are Not Buying
- You are not buying a retail allied race, because Skyborne exist only in Forever.
- You are not buying access to Forever itself, which any active subscription already covers.
- You are not buying a Classic Era unlock, since Forever runs in its own separate continuity.
- You are not buying a level cap increase, because 60 is permanent and content arrives through patches.
- You are not buying flying, which does not exist in Forever regardless of what your Travel Form looks like.
Verdict
Buy the Heroic Pack if you want blue druid forms and a start zone nobody else can enter. Skip it if you expected the racials to carry a raid spot, because 1% haste will not. WoW Forever Classic Plus is included with your subscription either way, which is the part Blizzard would prefer you scroll past on the shop page.
Do you need to pay to play Skyborne in WoW Forever?
Yes. The Skyborne Heroic Pack at 29.99 or a higher edition unlocks the race and Zephras Isle.
Can Skyborne be Paladins or Priests?
No. Published class options are Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid, plus Mage on Alliance or Shaman on Horde.
When does WoW Forever launch?
November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, with beta running from September 17 through October 21.
Is the Skyborne race neutral like Pandaren?
No. You lock Alliance High Order or Horde Windshaper at character creation, and that choice decides your extra class.
Can you play Skyborne in retail WoW?
No. Skyborne are a Forever character option only, though pack cosmetics and housing decor work in modern World of Warcraft.
