WoW Forever Spider Hunter Pet Guide: Tames, Bite Ranks and Raid Use
The spider hunter pet in WoW Forever is a meat-eating damage pet with a 1.07 damage modifier, medium health, low armor and exactly one attack skill, Bite. Tame Naraxis in Duskwood at 86.4, 47.5 for the only red spider skin, farm Bite up to rank 7 from other spiders, and steal rank 8 from a worg, because no spider on the Classic baseline teaches it.
Among world of warcraft forever hunter pets, spiders sit near the bottom of the ladder: cats hit harder, bats and owls get free utility, and your spider gets a nice silhouette. Pick one for the look, the rarity or pure spite, then read on so it at least dies with max rank Bite.
What Forever changes for hunter pets
WoW Forever is the Classic+ branch Blizzard announced at BlizzCon 2026, with launch set for November 4, 2026. The hunter changes that touch pets are already public, and they matter more than any spider stat.
- Pets now scale with the hunter’s own stats, so every point of Agility you wear also feeds the spider.
- Marksmanship gets Lone Wolf early in the tree, a flat 20% damage bonus for having no active pet at all.
- Beast Mastery gets Summon Hawk, which adds up to two temporary hawks next to your regular pet.
- Traps now work in combat, which makes trap and tame far less of a gamble.
- Humans and the new Skyborne race can now roll hunter, so more players will be fighting over the same rares.
Everything else about the classic plus hunter pet, from family modifiers to training points, runs on the 1.15 Classic baseline below until the beta proves otherwise.
Spider family stats and where it ranks
| Stat | Spider | Cat, for comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Health modifier | 1.00, medium | 1.00 |
| Armor modifier | 1.00, low | 1.00 |
| Damage modifier | 1.07, high | 1.10, highest in the game |
| Diet | Meat | Meat, fish |
| Family skill | None | Claw, Dash, Prowl |
| Attack speed | 2.0 on almost every spider | 2.0 on most cats |
Bats, owls and wind serpents carry the exact same 1.00, 1.00, 1.07 spread and still get Screech, Dive or Lightning Breath on top. The spider gets Bite, Growl and nothing else, which is why players have parked it in D tier for years.
Two spiders break the 2.0 rule: Spire Spiderling swings at 1.5 and Spawn of Mar’li at 1.4. Faster swings do not raise DPS, since each hit gets smaller, but they smooth out threat and push back enemy casts more often.
How to tame a spider without dying
WoW Forever pet taming follows the Classic rules: you unlock Tame Beast through the level 10 hunter class quest, and the target must be your level or lower.
- Use Beast Lore first to confirm the spider is tameable and to check its level and diet.
- Dismiss your current pet or park it with a Stable Master, because you get one active pet and two stable slots.
- Put down Freezing Trap, pull with Concussive Shot and start the tame once the spider is frozen.
- Keep Aspect of the Monkey up, because Tame Beast drops your armor by 100% for its full 20 second channel.
- If you have Wyvern Sting, it is a second sleep for the tame that the trap failed to hold.
- Feed the new spider with Feed Pet right away, because a fresh tame arrives unhappy and disloyal.
A tamed low level spider does not scale up to you. Tame near your own level, or enjoy leveling a pet that gets one-shot by everything you kill.
Best spider tame spots with coordinates
Your first WoW Forever spider tame should come from your own starting zone, and every later swap should line up with the next Bite rank. Coordinates are listed where the spawn point is fixed and confirmed; open spawns are described by area.

Spider skills and where to farm every rank
The full list of WoW Forever hunter pet abilities a spider can hold is short: Bite from the wild, Cower from other families, and the trainer passives. You learn a rank by taming a beast that already knows it and keeping it out in combat until the rank shows in your training window, then you teach it to the spider.
| Bite rank | Pet level | TP | Damage | Where to learn it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 1 | 7 to 9 | Night Web Spider, Forest Spider, Webwood Venomfang, Githyiss the Vile |
| 2 | 8 | 4 | 16 to 18 | Vicious Night Web Spider, Forest Lurker, Webwood Silkspinner, Lady Sathrah, Tarantula |
| 3 | 16 | 7 | 24 to 28 | Deepmoss Creeper, Wood Lurker, Greater Tarantula, Green Recluse, Shanda the Spinner |
| 4 | 24 | 10 | 31 to 37 | Naraxis, Leech Widow, Giant Moss Creeper, Wildthorn Lurker |
| 5 | 32 | 13 | 40 to 48 | Plains Creeper, Giant Plains Creeper, Darkfang Spider, Darkfang Creeper |
| 6 | 40 | 17 | 49 to 59 | Deathstrike Tarantula, Timberweb Recluse |
| 7 | 48 | 21 | 66 to 80 | Rekk’tilac, Cave Creeper, Plague Lurker |
| 8 | 56 | 25 | 81 to 99 | No spider teaches it; tame Bloodaxe Worg in Blackrock Spire |
Rank 8 is the sadistic part. The only Classic source of Bite rank 8 is a worg deep in Blackrock Spire, so bring a group, tame the dog, learn the rank, and abandon it without eye contact.
| Trainer skill | Max rank | Pet level | TP for max rank | Effect at max rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Growl | 7 | 60 | 0 | Taunt for 415 threat |
| Great Stamina | 10 | 60 | 185 | Plus 40 Stamina |
| Natural Armor | 10 | 60 | 150 | Plus 1000 armor |
| Fire, Frost, Nature, Shadow, Arcane Resistance | 5 each | 60 | 105 each | Plus 140 to that school |
Cower also works on spiders, but you learn it from other families. Rank 6 costs 18 TP and comes from Frostsaber Cub in Winterspring or Monstrous Plaguebat in Eastern Plaguelands.
| Build | Skills at level 60 | TP used |
|---|---|---|
| Solo and leveling | Bite 8, Growl 7, Great Stamina 10, Natural Armor 7 | 285 of 300 |
| Raid | Bite 8, Great Stamina 9, Fire Resistance 5, Cower 6 | 298 of 300 |
| PvP | Bite 8, Great Stamina 10, Natural Armor 6, Cower 6 | 278 of 300 |
Best named spider tames: rares, uniques and looks
WoW Forever rare tames are where the spider family finally earns its bag space. Stats are identical to regular spiders, so you are camping for a skin, a pre-learned Bite rank and the look on other players’ faces.
| Spider | Level | Zone | Location | Why bother |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mother Fang | 10, rare | Elwynn Forest | Back of Jasperlode Mine, entrance near 62, 55 | Green skin and the first rare Alliance hunters can reach |
| Lady Sathrah | 12 | Teldrassil | Open zone | Grey tarantula that knows Bite 2 |
| Sri’skulk | 13, rare | Tirisfal Glades | Venomweb Vale in eastern Tirisfal | Black widow skin for Horde starters |
| Krethis Shadowspinner | 15, rare | Silverpine Forest | Skittering Dark, around 35.7, 8.0 | Early black widow rare with a short respawn |
| Chatter | 23, rare | Redridge Mountains | Open zone | Red tarantula that knows Bite 3 |
| Leech Widow | 24, rare | Wetlands | Open zone | Grey spider that knows Bite 4 |
| Naraxis | 27, rare | Duskwood | Cave at 86.4, 47.5 | The only tameable red spider skin in the Classic data |
| Darkmist Widow | 40, rare | Dustwallow Marsh | Back of Darkmist Cavern, around 31, 20 | Jungle skin guarded by a cave full of spiders |
| Rekk’tilac | 48, rare | Searing Gorge | South-west, among lava spiders | Lava tarantula that knows Bite 7 |
| Gretheer | 57, rare | Silithus | One of four spots in a band across central Silithus | Grey tarantula at near max level |
| Spire Spiderling | 55 to 56 | Blackrock Spire | Dungeon | Crystal skin and 1.5 attack speed |
| Spawn of Mar’li | 60 | Zul’Gurub | Mar’li encounter | Tan skin and 1.4 attack speed, the fastest spider |
Look but do not bother: Shadra, Mother Smolderweb, Crystal Fang and Hedrum the Creeper cannot be tamed. Razzashi Broodwidow is flagged tameable but sits at level 61, one level above anything you will ever be.
Raid or PvP: what a spider is actually for
Short answer: neither, professionally. A spider brings no party buff, no slow, no gap closer and no defensive cooldown, only Bite on a 10 second timer and a body that stands in fire.
Blizzard has not published Forever pet family tables, pet talents or taming changes yet. Every modifier, rank, TP cost and spawn on this page is the 1.15 Classic baseline that Forever starts from, so check it against the beta before you spend six hours camping a cave.
As a wow forever raid pet, the spider loses to a cat on raw damage and to nobody on usefulness, because nobody else is worse. Marksmanship will likely skip the pet entirely for Lone Wolf, and Survival plays in melee where a pet is mostly a threat liability.
A wow forever beast mastery pet is the one case where a spider makes sense. Pet scaling from hunter stats plus two hawks means the family gap is a few percent, so a BM hunter can run Naraxis in raids and lose little more than bragging rights over cat owners.
In PvP the spider has no Dash or Dive, so a kiting target simply walks away from it. If you are hunting for the best hunter pet in wow forever for battlegrounds, take a cat or a wolf and keep the spider for screenshots.
- Fire Resistance 5 is the only resistance worth buying before Molten Core, since the pet eats AoE in that raid.
- Cower 6 keeps a raid spider from pulling boss attention off the tank.
- Growl should be turned off in any group with a real tank, unless you enjoy wipes and whispers.
Feeding, happiness and loyalty
WoW Forever pet happiness decides your damage, and a spider only eats meat. Carry Roasted Quail or Flank of Meat at high level, feed out of combat, and keep the food close to the pet’s level, because low level meat barely moves the bar.
| Happiness | Pet damage | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Happy | 125% | Full damage plus the bonus, the only acceptable state |
| Content | 100% | Baseline, which is already a spider’s problem |
| Unhappy | 75% | Loyalty drops, and a disloyal pet can leave for good |
Each feed restores happiness in ticks of 8, 17 or 35 points depending on how close the food is to the pet’s level. Loyalty climbs through six ranks, and each rank lowers how much food the pet needs.
- Rebellious pets can abandon you if you let them starve, dismiss them often or get them killed repeatedly.
- Unruly pets are still unconvinced and can still walk out.
- Submissive pets tolerate occasional bad luck and eat less.
- Dependable pets keep lowering their food needs.
- Faithful pets almost never leave unless you work at it.
- Best Friend pets need the least food and go the longest between meals.
Training points follow pet level times loyalty rank minus one, so a level 60 Best Friend spider has the full 300 TP. An abandoned pet never comes back, and the cave camp starts over.
Spider lore in Azeroth
Trolls worship spiders through Shadra, the spider loa. High Priestess Mar’li served Shadra in Zul’Gurub until Hakkar bent her to his will, which is why her fight hatches the spiderlings you can tame.
Horde players can call Shadra herself in the Hinterlands through Summoning Shadra, and she cannot be tamed, which saves everyone an awkward conversation. Deeper in Blackrock Spire, Mother Smolderweb runs a brood of her own, and Duskwood keeps its webs thick enough to explain why Darkshire never sleeps.
Are spiders good hunter pets in WoW Forever?
They trail cats with a 1.07 damage modifier and no family skill, but work fine for leveling and Beast Mastery.
Where does a spider learn Bite rank 8?
No spider teaches it. Tame a Bloodaxe Worg in Blackrock Spire, learn rank 8, then teach it to your spider.
What food does a spider pet eat?
Spiders eat meat only. Use meat close to the pet level, such as Roasted Quail, to keep happiness high.
Which spider tame has the rarest look?
Naraxis in Duskwood is the only tameable red spider in the Classic data, spawning in a cave east of Darkshire.
Is a spider worth taking into raids?
Only for Beast Mastery hunters who love the look. It adds no utility, so train Fire Resistance and Cower.
