WoW Forever Thunderfury Guide: Bindings, Chain, Stats and Loot Politics

WoW Forever Thunderfury costs both halves of the bindings, the left Bindings of the Windseeker from Baron Geddon at 4.28% and the right Bindings of the Windseeker from Garr at 4.08%, plus an Essence of the Firelord, 10 Elementium Bars and one dead Prince Thunderaan. The chain starts at Highlord Demitrian, /way Silithus 29.6 10.5. Half of all guilds collect both halves within 29 lockouts. One guild in ten is still farming after 70.

Now the part nobody likes. Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is not in the launch build. Forever is set before Molten Core, the December 9 raids are Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit, and the first World of Warcraft Forever legendary belongs to that new content. Everything below is the Classic Anniversary blueprint, the one Forever will most likely reuse if the old lair comes back.

What Blizzard has actually confirmed for Forever

DateWhat happens
September 17 to October 21, 2026Beta with a level 30 cap.
November 4, 2026Launch of the full game.
December 9, 2026Barrow Deeps (10 players) and Hyjal Summit (20 players) open, with Onyxia reported alongside.
Spring 2027Two raids, two dungeons and a legendary questline.
Summer 2027A revamped iconic vanilla raid, still unnamed, plus one new raid.

No official WoW Forever Molten Core announcement exists. The summer 2027 raid has no name, the timeline stops right at the Firelord’s door, and Blizzard likes nostalgia money. Start hoarding Arcanite Bars now and blame us later.

Where the chain starts: Highlord Demitrian coordinates

How to get Thunderfury in WoW Forever begins with luck, not a quest giver. Loot either binding, then ride to Demitrian, a level 62 elite in the Ravaged Twilight Camp in northwest Silithus. Type /way Silithus 29.6 10.5, because the default database pin has lied to players for years.

One half is enough to start. Both halves can drop before anyone talks to Demitrian, so a binding sitting in a bank is not wasted, merely held hostage.

Full Thunderfury quest chain, step by step

The Thunderfury quest chain WoW Forever players would inherit is three quests, two raids and one summoned boss in the desert. Every step below uses original requirements, because nothing about this sword was ever meant to be convenient.

  1. Kill Baron Geddon and Garr in Molten Core every week until one binding drops.
  2. Speak to Demitrian in Silithus and take the Vessel of Rebirth he hands you.
  3. Complete Examine the Vessel, which immediately unlocks Thunderaan the Windseeker.
  4. Keep farming Molten Core until the second binding lands on the same character.
  5. Kill Ragnaros while the quest sits in your log to loot a guaranteed Essence of the Firelord.
  6. Learn Smelt Elementium in Blackwing Lair and craft 10 Elementium Bars.
  7. Bring both bindings, the Essence and the bars to Demitrian and turn in Thunderaan the Windseeker.
  8. Kill Prince Thunderaan, whom Demitrian summons on the spot, and loot the Dormant Wind Kissed Blade.
  9. Hand the blade back through Rise, Thunderfury! and equip your new personality.

Elementium Bars: the materials that actually kill guilds

One bar needs 1 Elementium Ore, 10 Arcanite Bars, 1 Fiery Core and 3 Elemental Flux. Multiply by ten and cry.

MaterialTotalSource
Elementium Ore10Rare drop from the Blackwing Technician goblins in Blackwing Lair.
Arcanite Bar100Transmute: Arcanite from one Thorium Bar and one Arcane Crystal, with a Philosopher’s Stone.
Fiery Core10Molten Core trash and bosses.
Elemental Flux30Blacksmithing supply vendors.

Smelting is learned inside Blackwing Lair. A Priest casts Mind Control on Master Elemental Shaper Krixix, near the Firemaw patrol, and uses his ability on a Miner with 300 skill. No Priest, no bars, no sword.

Arcanite is the real final boss. The transmute has a two day cooldown, so one alchemist needs 200 days for 100 bars. Seven alchemists need a month. Start before the bindings drop, not after.

Drop rates and how many lockouts it really takes

The WoW Forever bindings of the Windseeker drop rate has not been published, so the only honest numbers are Classic ones. Geddon drops the left half at 4.28%, Garr drops the right half at 4.08%, one roll per weekly kill.

Weekly lockoutsChance both halves dropped
1012.1%
2033.0%
2950.4%
3661.6%
4875.9%
5279.4%
7090.2%
10497.6%

The average is 36 lockouts, roughly eight months of Molten Core. Bad luck does not carry over, and neither does sympathy. The Essence of the Firelord is the only merciful drop in the chain at 100%, provided somebody in the raid has the quest.

Three ways to lose Thunderfury after doing everything right.

Kill Ragnaros without the quest holder in the raid and the Essence never drops.

Summon Thunderaan with Master Looter on and, as Classic players reported, nobody can loot the blade. Group loot works.

Let the quest holder die and run back during the kill, and the loot can leave without them.

Prince Thunderaan: the easiest boss in the chain

After eight months of Molten Core, the Prince is an anticlimax. He deals Nature damage and knocks melee back, so keep melee at max range and give the tank real healers. He drops one blade for every quest holder present, so two holders can finish in one summon.

Exact stats, proc and how it actually performs

Here are the Thunderfury stats WoW Forever players can plan around. Forever has not published a new tooltip, so this is the Classic item, untouched.

StatValue
Item level80
TypeUnique one-hand sword, binds when picked up
Damage44 to 115, speed 1.90
Bonus damage16 to 30 Nature
Damage per second53.95
Attributes5 Agility, 8 Stamina
Resistances8 Fire, 9 Nature
Required level60

The Thunderfury proc blasts the target for 300 Nature damage and chains to nearby enemies, up to five targets. Each jump strips 25 Nature resistance. The primary target is caught in a cyclone that slows its attack speed by 20% for 12 seconds.

The slow is the point. A boss swinging 20% slower means less damage on the tank and fewer healers begging for mana. The chain turns every trash pull into free threat on five mobs. The flat 300 damage ignores gear, which is why tanks love it and fully geared DPS eventually shrug.

The white hit Nature bonus is a Classic quirk. Blizzard confirmed in 2020 that it is added as physical damage, yet Nature absorbs still eat it.

Forever merges melee, ranged and spell crit into one stat and trims weapon skill on items. Classic players reported the proc crit off spell crit, which warriors barely have. If Forever keeps the proc as it is, merged crit becomes a quiet buff nobody has tested yet.

Which class and spec should get it

Protection Warrior is the WoW Forever best tank weapon holder by default. The slow, the threat and the fast speed for Heroic Strike spam all point at the main tank.

Class and specPriorityWhy
Protection WarriorFirstAttack speed slow plus massive threat on every pull.
Fury WarriorSecondMain hand proc shreds packs and keeps pace in cleave fights.
Combat RogueThirdStrong sustained damage, but the proc threat needs a Thunderfury tank.
Protection PaladinSituationalForever reworks classes, but in Classic raids rarely handed it over.
HunterNeverBlizzard said in 2006 listing Hunters was a mistake.

Only Warriors, Rogues, Paladins and Hunters can run the chain in Classic. Forever adds new race and class combinations, not new eligible classes, and nobody has confirmed the list stays the same.

Guild politics: how to decide who gets it

A Warcraft Forever legendary weapon is a guild project wearing one player’s name. Decide the owner before the first binding drops, or the loot council turns into a courtroom.

  • The first Thunderfury goes to the main tank, and anyone arguing otherwise volunteers to tank Ragnaros.
  • The second one goes to a Fury Warrior or Combat Rogue only after a tank already holds a Thunderfury.
  • The first binding goes to the intended final owner, because an orphaned half helps nobody.
  • The guild traditionally covers raid drops like Fiery Cores and Elementium Ore, while the owner pays for Arcanite and Flux.
  • Write down who supplies what and what happens to the bindings if the owner quits.
  • Loot council beats DKP here, because a Hunter hoarding points has split real guilds over this sword.
  • Forever removes separate realms, so an owner who leaves with the sword no longer even needs a transfer.

Thunderfury lore

Every WoW Classic Plus Thunderfury theory rests on the same story. Thunderaan, Prince of Air, son of Al’Akir the Windlord, was defeated by Ragnaros with Garr and Geddon after the First Age of Creation. Ragnaros failed to consume him fully, sealed the remains in a talisman of elemental binding and split it between his two lieutenants.

Demitrian, a follower of the Prince, later reunited the halves but could not free his master. Your raid does the freeing, Thunderaan thanks you by attacking, and the sword is his apology. Forever’s timeline stops before Molten Core, so in Forever the Prince is still locked in a lava basement, waiting for your guild to agree on something.

Is Thunderfury in WoW Forever at launch?

No. Molten Core is not in the launch or December 9 raid lineup, and Blizzard has not announced Thunderfury yet.

What is the drop rate of the bindings?

Classic data shows 4.28 percent from Baron Geddon and 4.08 percent from Garr, rolled once on every weekly kill.

How many lockouts does Thunderfury take?

Half of all guilds get both halves within 29 lockouts, and one guild in ten still waits after 70.

Where is Highlord Demitrian?

He stands in the Ravaged Twilight Camp in northwest Silithus, around coordinates 29.6, 10.5 on the zone map.

Who should get Thunderfury first?

The main tank, usually a Protection Warrior, because the attack speed slow and threat make the whole raid safer.
